UK are serving customers well by satisfying all employees on several grounds by HRM practises
that maintains standard and quality reputation of firm. The firm in North Yorkshire that serves

to mark (Noe, et.al, 2017). But recently, market reputation of firm has highly impacted from its
low quality goods as people are selected as employee from high unemployment area that has
become drawback in gaining profits and revenues. It is important for firm to comply with HR
functions that will help in improving situations.
As HR officer, resourcing and workforce planning has become crucial need that makes essential
to understand HRM functions and purpose. Hence, there are HRM functions that are important
for Chocolate Presence to improve product quality that includes:
Establishing Employee Relations – The firm stands strong with its pillars that are employees. A
concept of employee relationship is identified as important aspect of HRM functions that creates
good and strong relations within workers that develops ability to impact work outputs and the
behaviours. The activities are planned for knowing staff at professional and personal level. The
effective employee relation planning will promote balanced and healthy relations in employer as

P2 Explain the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to recruitment and selection
The major function of HRM consists of recruitment and selection that plays crucial importance
to business and employee performance standards. The term recruitment is identified as process
of listing vacancies and positions that are essential to fill through recruitment sources, attracting
people, job duties and job role needs. On contrary, the term selection consist of stages that are
important to achieve by candidates including short listing, resumes, job interviews and selection
of competent person. According to Chocolate Presence scenario, negative feedbacks has impact
its reputation due to low quality services. The crisis has come because firm has unskilled crowd
of staff that was selected by just taking home assessment test and that too for English and Maths
subject that has low link with firm’s objectives (Dany and Torchy, 2017). It was further found
that formal interview has been taken with only 15 minutes. The process of staffing was found
lame and useless from which vacancies do not get filled from competent and skilled people that
can be judged in probationary time of new joiners.
The poor HR policies and techniques have bought low skilled people in firm that impacted work
and culture. The firm follows unstructured selection process that comprises various strong and
weak points that are listed below:
Home Assessment Test – It was to be completed by applicant at home by just giving Maths and
English related answers with passing percent of 50. The benefit of test gives better opportunities
to candidates with strong knowledge in both section but it has drawback that accuracy might get
diminished by just taking results of two subjects and eliminating practical test according to firms
need.
Informal Chat – The candidates that are selected in assessment called for 15 minutes interview
in which two officer talks on different topics to judge attitude and skills of employees (Ekwoaba,
et.al, 2015). This idea and selection method helps to judge people from behaviour and
personality but candidates must use lying idea to get finalised that might impact functioning and
performance standards of firm.
Therefore, above reasons has failed firm’s operations and activities that impacts probationary
time from new candidates. Thus, selection process must get improvised by Chocolate Presence
by introducing staffing policies that are as follows:

Structured Interviews – The method is based on quantitative research initiated for surveying
candidate with similar and correct ensured question ordering. This method is beneficial for firm
as recruiters can expect full explanations and high standards of answers given by candidates. The
change in tone of voice and body language impacts right answers given.
Psychometric Tests – The method is initiated for analysing person’s skills, intelligence as well as
personality for hiring best match for vacancy. This method dispenses accuracy in results as the
person is finalised for job according to skills and competencies for job role but affects results if
candidate gets nervous at time of answering questions in front of interviewers (Derous and De

confidence of employees. Motivating employees in firm is essential task that must be present in
every firm to maintaining productive results. The current time leaders and managers aims on to

The motivational theory states that firm has several aspects that serves satisfaction to staff and
various reasons that brings zero or no satisfaction within employees. This was introduced by the

As an HR officer, it is important that such factors must be fulfilled by firm to bring consistency
in working results that can be done by motivation employees with motivators. In case of factors
that bring dissatisfaction it is duty of firm to reduce or minimise such factor’s impact as it will
not be able to remove as satisfying staff on grounds of hygiene factors will bring negative impact
on firm that needs to be reduced slowly based on employee performance (Hur, 2018). Thus, the
