INTRODUCTION
Human resource management is a most important function of an organisation as
it encompasses managing and controlling on the people so that the business objectives
and goals can be achieved. It is the process of recruiting, selecting, training,
performance appraisal, maintaining healthy relationship and others(Human Resource
Management (HRM): Definition & Functions, 2019). The main purpose of HRM is to
properly utilising the human resources so that the overall performance of the business
can be increased. This file is based on the LV company which is established in 1843
and operating its business in providing a wide range of financial services which includes
life insurance, pensions and investment products. This study will cover about the
different functions of HRM and the strength and weaknesses of different recruitment and
selection process. Along with this, the importance of different HRM practices and
employee relation within the organisation also will discuss in this report.
TASK 1
Explain the HRM and its functions
Human resource management is a strategic approach which is concerned for
hiring, maintaining and motivating the employees within the organisation. It is the most
essential element of the business as it ensures the maximum contribution and
satisfaction of employees in accomplishing the organisational objectives. The HR
manager within the organisation play their important role in conducting various functions
which are as follow:
Recruiting and selecting: This is the foremost function of HR manager in which
manager of LV needs to focus on driving the attention and interest of various candidates
in vacant position of the organisation. As by selecting a most suitable candidate from the
pool of applicants manager will be able to utilise the talent and skills of an individual in
achieving their goals and objectives(Björkman and et. al., 2014). Moreover, this will
assist manager in preparing a most effective plan related to that how much candidates
they need in their organisation and which skills they required to posses in a candidate in
order to accomplish its business goals.

Training and development: It is the another important function of HR
department in which manager requires to give their focus on providing training and
development programs to the both new and existing employees so that manager will be
able to keep them up to date in their respective areas. This will help the business of LV
in increasing the skills and knowledge of employees so that they can contribute in
achieving the organisational goals in ease manner. Before conducting a training
programs it is essential for the LV manager to measure all the techniques and process
that they are sufficient or not in order to provide an effective training program. By giving
proper training to their employees business can get the higher success and growth in
the marketplace(Warner, 2014).
Organising: This function of manager of LV enables them to determine some
effective plans or strategies so that they can carry out all the business operations in
significance way. In this the manager should focus on various activities like they should
delegate authority as per the responsibilities and skills, establish a proper coordination

accomplishing some specific purpose. Here are defined some of the purpose of HR

Performance appraisal: This is the main purpose of the business manager to
influence their employee mind in the right direction. In this aspect the performance
appraisal is the most important element as it has direct positive impact on the
employees mind as well as their performance. It is related to the appraise the
employees performance and give reward to the most talented employees so that they
will motivate towards achieving business goals and objectives(Kang, Snell and Swart,

practices are available like performance appraisal, opportunity for career development,
rewards and benefits and others. Adoption of these practices will ensure HR manager to

the motivational theory which can be adopt by LV company:
Maslow's hierarchy needs: This is the most effective motivational theory which
can be adopted by the manager of company to motivate their employees. It is developed
by the Abraham Maslow in 1943 which defines that in order to motivate the employees
manager must focus on completing basic needs of the employees and then trying to
motivate them to achieve the higher level of needs(Ruël and Bondarouk, 2014). They
have explained five steps in this theory which is helpful in motivating the employees in
the right manner. He said that manager of a company needs to follow steps or levels to
fulfil the needs of employees like firstly they should focus on completing the
physiological needs which is related to the basic needs like food, shelter and clothes.
After that, they should prioritise the safety needs which includes the safety and security
of employees at workplace, then love/belonging which is related to the relationships.
The esteem and self actualisation needs of the employees comes after all defined
three stages as these refers to the confident and respect which they feel during working
at organisation and in the last the employees will focus on accomplishing those needs
which they can attain easily within the organisation.
TASK 3
Define the term of employee relation and its importance for the business
Employee relation is the process of managing relationship among all the
employees within the organisation. As by maintaining healthy relationship with all the
employees business manager can keep their employees allegiant and more engaged in
their work so that the best possible outcomes can be achieved. In respect of LV
company the manager must focus on maintaining constructive and positive relationship
with their employees as it will enables them to gain the attention and interest of the
employees in the organisational goals and objectives. Also, it will enables the HR
manager to determine the needs and demand of their employees from the company so
that they can make their decision accordingly(Jackson, Louw and Zhao, 2013). Other, it

is essential for the manager to keep their eye on the proper participation of their
employees in decision-making process so that they can share their ideas, thoughts and
issues with them easily. All these efforts of the manager will help the business to get
