INTRODUCTION
Human resource which is the most important part in an organisation because with the
help of this, firm is able to achieve its desired result or outcome. If there will not be proper
staffing then business operation can not be carried out effectively and efficiently which will
create disturbance in its activities (Barney, Ketchen and Wright, 2011). For managing
employees, there is requirement of a management which will be known as human resource
management. It has main responsibility to hire and develop the personality of staff so that they
will become valuable asset for the company and will provide various benefits to the firm. In
simple terms, it can be said that human resource management is a process which focuses on
recruitment, selection, training and development of employees so that they will drive the
company towards the way of success. This assignment is based on Apple INC. which is an
American multinational technology company that designs, develops and sells consumer
electronics, software and online services. This assignment will state about various purpose and
functions of HRM as well as different recruitment and selection approaches that need to be
followed by company while hiring employees. This report will also state about HRM practises
for employer and employee as well as various employment legislations that affect HRM decision
making process.
TASK 1
P1 Purpose and functions of HRM applicable to workforce
Human resource management is the most important section in a company which helps in
managing employees effectively and efficiently. If it will not be presented at workplace then no
one will perform as per specified standards (Batt and Colvin, 2011). This department has to
perform various functions like recruitment, selection and various other tasks which are described
below- Planning- It is the most important function which need to be fulfilled timely and
effectively so that no problem can be occurred at workplace and operation can be run
effectively and smoothly. In this task, HRM has to identify current and future
requirement of employees so that business operation can not be stopped and company
can reach to its decided destination within stipulated period of time.

Staffing- As per requirement, it is the duty of HR manager to hire employees so that
operation can be run smoothly and effectively and Apple INC. can reach to its decided
destination within stipulated period of time. Development of human resource- If there is any new joining then in this situation,
manager of Apple Inc. has responsibility to conduct training programme for them so that
they will become familiar from working culture and will become able to perform their
job as per specified standards (Bolman and Deal, 2017). It can also be provided to the
existing employees for making them more efficient and capable so that they will
contribute in the success of company. Employee relation- It is a very important responsibility of HRM in which it has to
maintain healthy relation between employer and employees so that business operation
can not be interrupted and organisation can reach to its decided destination. If there will
be conflicts or disputes then it will generate negative environment which will demoralize
the employees and then no one will perform as per standards.
Compensation and reward- HRM should ensure that every employee is getting fair
salary. If they will not get compensation as per their work then it will demotivate to them
then they will not be able to perform effectively and efficiently. So manager should
provide salary to the workers as per their capability and job.
Purpose of HRM- This department is exist in every company because of the following
purpose that are given below-
For attracting new candidates towards company as well as for improving the efficiency
and capability of workers.
For increasing the effectiveness of overall firm by providing skilled and competent
workforce (Bröckermann, 2012).
To utilize available resources effectively and efficiently so that maximum output can be
obtained from them.
To increase the satisfaction level of employees so that they will become loyal towards
their job and will give their 100% in the success of firm.
It also ensures that company is following all rules and regulations that assist in
maintaining ethical code of practise within and outside the premise of firm.

Recruitment- It can be defined as a process by which new employees are hired from the
pool of candidates. It is a positive approach which invites to the People for vacant post so that
business operation can be run effectively and efficiently. Apple Inc. can hire an employee mainly
from two sources that are described below-

Internal recruitment- It is an approach in which firm hires employees within the
premises of company through promotion, transfer and referrals (Cloke and Park, 2013). This
source provides various benefits to firm like it saves time and money of the company because in
this, employee is hired from the company who are already familiar with its culture then there is
no need to provide any training to them that saves money of the company. With the help of this

other staff will also be motivated for getting promotion. Along with advantages, it has also some

External agencies- In this, company recruits employees from outside the boundary of
firm (Coff and Kryscynski, 2011). In this source, organisation hires employees through the
following way that are described below- Campus placement- HR manager goes to colleges for hiring candidates and selects to
those person who will be suitable for the vacant post.
Employment agencies- In this, Apple Inc. contracts to the third party and asks to them to
recruit best qualified employees. But it has to give money in exchange of services.
This source has main advantage is that in this, company can acquire new blood who will
have more competence and efficiency for performing job effectively. Apart from this, it has also

person is selected. While selecting an individual, Apple Inc. can adopt following given methods
that are described below- Interview- It can be referred as a process in which interviewer and candidate directly
communicates with each other (Fine, 2012). In this, panel will put question in front of
candidate and he will has to give answer to them and that person who will give every
answer with full confidence then he will be selected and vice versa. This method will be
suitable in that situation when interviewer wants to know detail information about
candidates but it is a time consuming process.
Psychological testing- With the help of this method, behaviour of candidate is measured.
In this, employer can know that what employee will react if any critical situation will
occur. Its main benefit is that person can not tell a lie and also have limitation which is

company (Gatewood, Feild and Barrick, 2015). Manager of Apple Inc. can provide
training to their subordinates through various ways like case studies, role playing,
simulation etc. If its employees will be skilled and capable then company will be able to
achieve competitive advantages over its rivals. Conflict resolution- In order to get desired result, it is very necessary that there should be
healthy or positive environment so that employees can get motivation and will perform

In today globalization era, government is taking corrective action for protecting the rights
of employees, employer and customers. It introduces various types of legal rules and regulations
which has main objective to protect the interest of people (Goals of Human Resource
Management, 2017). These legislation have to follow by every enterprises whether it is a small
or big companies. Some of them enactments are described below which have to follow by every
business- Anti discrimination act- This act is propounded because of protecting the people from
discrimination concept. As per this legislation, employer has no right to use favouritism
concept among individuals while recruiting and selecting a person. If it will use then will
be liable for penalty as per specified regulations. It will also not be good for the
reputation of company because no client will be attracted towards it which will reduce its
sales or revenue. So it will be beneficial for the firm to hire that person which will be
capable to perform his job effectively. Minimum Wage Act- In this, government has specified minimum amount of salary or
wages which has to pay by employer in every situation whether it is favourable or
unfavourable condition. Apple Inc. can not deny to pay it otherwise he will be liable for
