9.1 Workplace Safety - Is it your Responsibility.
In my organization, the safety processes or programs include, providing protective
gears for the employees, awareness and training, checking, monitoring and reporting and
policies and guidelines. This organization has created a detailed guideline and policy
regarding the safety standards and requirements that every employee should follow. There are
fines that they have to pay if they do not follow them. The employees are trained periodically.
All the machines and equipment are checked regularly and wearing of protections have been
made mandatory. The measures that have taken are effective as it not only focuses on rules
and policies but ensures that they are followed through enforcements and employee
awareness.
The security measures that the organization has taken are behavioral as well as
administrative in nature (Kim, Park & Park, 2016). The business can further improve their
safety standards by taking the environmental safety issues into consideration.
9.2 Health, Safety, and Security
OSHA has fined the Arbre Group Holding a total of $200,791 as penalty for willful
and serious violation of workplace safety and health standards (U.S. Department of Labor
Cites New York Frozen Foods Packager For Exposing Employees to Multiple Hazards |
Occupational Safety and Health Administration., 2019). The company that packages frozen
fruits and vegetables from the retailers has been charged for exposing the employees to
laceration and amputation hazards that can be caused from the package filler machine. The
machine that the employees operated had no door which means that the employees could
come to contact with the operating parts. The machine also lacked the mechanism that could
stop the machine while the door is opened. The organization also ignored the health issues of

the employees that may have caused due to workplace such as hearing issues, exposure to
chemicals and so on.
In this new release OSHA is trying to ensure that the safety and health of the
employees of the company is secured. The employers in this case will have to pay the fine
and improve their safety and health standards to avoid future lawsuits.
From the news release I have learnt that OSHA is continuously trying to ensure that
that the working standards and health issues of the employees in US is secured. The work that
they do is quite commendable and people who are enforcing these rules should be
appreciated.
