HRM - Assignment 2
LO: 4 - Apply Human Resource Management practices in a work-related context
(1000 words)
Reflective Account
Briefly describe which reflective model that you are using to help you reflect and write
this assignment
In this work, I am using ROLFE reflection method as it is based on simply three questions. It
is of what? So what and now what? While working within the working in Starbucks I found
the problem related to communication and culture. The main reason for being stuck in this
situation is high employee turnover. Along, with this, the employees are not having a proper
way to communicate with the customers and higher authority as well. Some of the broader
issues also arise from the situation (Pitkänen, 2018). Due to this, the customers are giving
negative feedback about the organization and hence the organizational images are getting
affected. Being an HR manager, I can organize activities for reducing the stress level of
employees. Also, rewards and compensation can be provided for motivation them in attaining
the stated aims and objective of the firm. I can also provide work as per their qualification so
that they can use their ideas for the completion of work (Cushion, 2018).
Provide a ‘stop and think’ quote that you have experienced from reading about
Human Resource management workplace practices which has been useful to you
during your learning
While doing the learning process, I have seen that the organization was using the book, internet,
and newspaper for doing the recruitment process. Both the internal and external processes are
using within the organization for recruiting more and more employees (Bell, et. al., 2017). I
would prefer to use the official website of the organization for attracting a large number of
fresher. Also, job sites such as LinkedIn and others will be used for giving advertisement for a
vacant job in the firm. My previous job platform i.e. Starbucks was good and tries to satisfy the
employee and customer needs. The human resource practices which are used in the organization
are as follows:
Employment security
Hire selective fresher’s
Providing extensive training to the new employees
Sharing information
Also, they can communicate with the target and potential customers for providing awareness
about the vacant job in the organization. I think that they will surely circulate the vacant job
application to their fellows who required this (Guy, Byrne, and Dobos, 2016).
Using the reflective model you have chosen describe what happened
I have used ROLFE reflection method I have learned what? So what and now what? This
helped me to respond to any sudden problematic situation that has occurred during my
Starbucks session as a human resource manager. A complete consequence analysis,
understanding and decision making for improved action were the results that I have come
across ROLFE reflection method (Row, 2016).

Reflect on the meaning of this quote and how it has helped develop your understanding
and knowledge of Human Resource Management in workplace settings.
The above-discussed quote helped me in developing a great understanding and knowledge of
human resource management. Also, I came to know that it is important to wait and think firstly
before hiring any of the employees. The Training and development session is provided in the
organization. This helps in improving the current skills and competencies of employees. Also,
they came to know about the market trends that can be used for enhancing the organizational
growth and production (Van Dooren, Bouckaert and Halligan, 2015).
The performance management system can also be improved by analyzing the above stated
quite. Also, the senior management support and commitment is made for allocating the
resources as per the system needs. The organizational employee recognizes the performance
management for managing the on-going process.
Analyze your experience, pay particular attention to your own thoughts,
feelings, and behaviors.
I have felt very prevailed to share my experience in working with Starbucks where I have seen
or experience some good or some bad things while working as the employee or focus over the
human resource in the organization. My behavior is changed totally after working as the
Starbucks employee at which I first thought or focus over my personal growth but now I think
also for the organization at which I have worked. I felt sometimes so bad while I saw biased
practices with the employees which were done by higher authorities. Again, practices such as
politics or poor conditioning of employee which make me very emotional because at some sort
of time I also face these things.
These experiences help me to realize my power and also know the organization policies which
can be used for the employee's benefits that are hidden from the Starbucks employee. I think
proper performance management and manpower planning is strictly required at Starbucks to
improve its workforce environment. Starbucks treats employees is just as the number not as an
individual due to this the employees are not focused over personal growth. As of my workforce
culture is either the bane or boon for success. Starbucks has to change their cultural values and
also provide the appraisals to the employees. Due to inappropriate behavior with employee
Starbucks may face some loss in brand value in the market which may increase the competitive
disadvantage. The hiring rate at Starbucks is also slow that may also disrupt the customer
management chain that Starbucks exclusively offers.
While working in the organization, it is to be concluded that Starbucks management can
enhance training and development session for improving the skills of employees. If they will
not do the same, then they their organizational growth with be affected.

Starbucks provide lots of employees benefits and policies such as free coffee and
refreshment with good parking facility
My skills and communication have improved a lot due to higher interaction with
customers every second
