INTRODUCTION
Human resource management is the field of managing employees at workplace and
assigning the work between them in order complete the project and attaining goals. HR is
playing an important role in each industry as it identify the vacancy and recruit the skilled people
who can work effectively by accepting challenges (Botlero, 2019). To understand functions of
HRM and its role Morrison has been selected that is large size supermarket, providing different
good and services to customers. The main discussed function in report is recruitment and
selection which is main task for management to find the vacancy and attracts talented candidates
which can help to fill the vacancy and manage all functions. This person manage the all
functions and activities by allocating work and motivating staff. The report cover HRM
functions, issues or challenge in specific function.
MAIN BODY
About HRM: This is the process of employing people, identifying vacancy, recruiting
talented staff, compensating employees and managing the all functions for the purpose of
attaining business goals. Having HR in all organisation is important as it plays essential role by
placing staff at right place which encourage them to work effectively and increase the
profitability. In context to Morrison, HR is responsible for all activities as recruitment, selection,
organising, direction and controlling the employees at the work place which supports to complete
the project and attain higher profitability. An employer should be treat all staff equally that build
the motivation to work more or hard in order to increase the organizational performance
(Shamim and et.al., 2016).
The different function of HRM are Planning, recruitment and selection, performance
management, learning and development, performance evaluation, rewards recognition, and
handling administrative responsibilities that can help to manage the performance. These
functions have vital role in organisation as without such functions all activities will be difficult to
arrange or organise. Planning is function of formulating strategies in for the purpose of managing
and arranging employees for the purpose of developing business. Performance management
function is uses to managing performance of all staff who are working collecting and increasing
the productivity. The another function is learning and development which use by management to
providing training and learning activities to employees so they can understand what they needs to

do and how , helps to increase the business performance. Performance appraisal is also important
function which mainly used by management to analysis the employee's performance and
motivate them to work hard that can help to increase the organizational productivity and
profitability. The HR manager of Morrison understand its role and responsibilities then make
efforts to perform effectively that can provide higher productivity. Management is responsible to
utilize all available funds and resources that can help to run the functions appropriately. This also
helps to retain the employees in organization for long term by managing staff and encouraging
them to work properly (Mooring, 2016).
Area to focus
Recruitment and selection is considered as defined area in which HR focus to develop the
organizational performance. This explained as important function for any organization as all
company needs employees who can work in dynamic environment by accepting challenges that
can help to increase the business productivity. Recruiting is the process of acquiring a pool of
applicants with required knowledge, skills and attributes that can help to manage the functions
properly. Whereas, selection is the process of getting interview, checking and selecting the best
candidates out of huge applicants that can help to complete the project and attain the business
goals. In context to Morrison, recruitment and selection function is used by HR management as it
give the advertisement of vacancy and conduct interview rounds which helps to select the best
talent at the workplace. This person place the right employees at right position which supports to
getting the work done efficiently. There is two methods of recruitment such as internal and
external. When employees hired or selected within the industry for the purpose of maintaining
higher position is known as internal recruitment. This involves transfer, promotion and others
which helps to fill the vacant position properly. On the other side, when candidates are recruited
or selected out of the organization for the purpose of filling position is known as external
recruitment. This involves contractors, campus placement, hiring agency, Naukri portals and
others can help to manage the good activities. Thus, internal and external recruitment is different
method which uses by management to fill the vacant position at different profile by analysing
skills and abilities of candidates (Ployhart, Schmitt and Tippins, 2017).

For any business industry, recruitment and selection is highly important as fill the vacant
position by selecting the best candidate and managing the all functions effectively. There are
different issues pertaining in hiring and selecting function that are defined below:
Reducing employer brand: The main issue of recruitment and selection function is
building strong employer brand as it needed to complete the work and accepting challenges for
developing business performance. The management of Morrison face this problem in developing
employer brand due to not providing full details of job description and responsibilities that needs
to perform effectively. Due to this, candidates get confused and apply for wrong profile which
reduced the employer brand (Tafti, Mahmoudsalehi and Amiri, 2017).
Lack of qualified candidates: Due to recruitment and selection another problem faced
by organisation is lack of qualified candidates. In case of not following hiring procedure then it
will be difficult for management to select the skilled and qualified employees. In Morrison,
management might be face the problem of qualified employees that hampered the organizational
productivity and performance (Challenges and issues in relation to recruitment and selection,
2020).
Attracting job candidates: Every industry has desire to attract the right candidates by
following recruitment process. Hiring and attracting the candidates is greatest challenge for each
organization as management does not follows the recruitment and selection process which create
the problem in operating the business. If management is not able to hire the right candidate then
all functions and activities get hampered (Falcone, 2019).
Unfair recruitment: Sometimes it can be seen that employer provide the job
opportunities to their reference who does not related to position and knowledge. Due to which
conflicts arises between working staff and does not get ready to work properly. The employer
should be focuses on capabilities and experience of candidates then needs to decide the
recruitment. In relation to Morrison, HR management can face the problem of conflicts due to
discrimination between working staff that reduce the working activities and functions (Jeske and
Shultz, 2016).
Thus, from the above challenges in relation to recruitment and selection function it can be
explained that all functions and activities of Morrison get hampered which affected the
productivity and profitability. Human resource management is having important role and
responsibilities in the organisation who understand the task and recruit the employees according

to skills required by analysing properly. This create the demand of skilled and talented people to
handle the task and attain the business goals which became difficult in case of not managing all
functions.
Solving problems
Organization faces many challenges due to recruitment and selection function that needs
to be solve. For solving the issue HR management is required to follow the all employment
regulation, recruitment policies, giving opportunities to all and managing the talent at the work
place that can help to increase the business productivity and profitability. The management
should give full details of job and responsibilities that needs to fill by candidates. There should
have proper training and development programme which can build the employability skills and
develop the safe working environment which motivate the employees and increase the
productivity (Hecklau and et.al., 2016). In context to Morrison, HR management can arrange and
manage the staff by attracting the top talent and getting the work done properly which can help
to attain the business goals and higher profitability.
CONCLUSION
Human resource management is explained as person used to determine the goals of
organisation and managing the matters related to employees that can help to increase the
business function. This person is playing important role in the organization who decide the goals
and allocate the roles and responsibilities that increases the organizational performance. The
various function of HRM is planning, managing employee, recruiting and selecting, training,
performance appraisal and others which are use by management in order to operate the all
functions and activities effectively. The discussed function in report is recruitment and selection
which uses to attract the top talent and retaining them at workplace. This function also create the
challenges that are solved by following the all legislation that supports to develop the business
performance.
