In this seminar, we will focus on the older adult and how to engage them in physical activity. We will
also further reflecting on your current skills, values and interests and how they fit with the job
description you identified last week to begin building your career development plan required within
your reflection.
By the end of the seminar you should be able to:
Create a program of exercise for a group of older adults
Self-evaluate your current skillset against a position description in exercise science
Create a self-development plan for developing your skillset in future

Activity 1: The older adult living longer
This activity is designed to help you with AT3. You will be asked to reflect on the types of companies
that may work with older adults to help keep them active. Your tutor will first provide you with an
introduction to the older adult. They will provide you with information about the projected life
expectancy of Australian older adults.

You are a member of staff working within a company providing services to older adults over the age
of 65 years. You and your team have recently heard about a new Victorian government scheme
being offered by the health department. The scheme is offering money to companies working with
older adults to help build a program designed to keep adults active and healthy.
You and your colleagues decide to put in a funding bid. What type of program would you put
forward in your pitch?
Step 1: You will divide yourself into small groups to complete this task no more than 5 people
Step 2: Identify one member of your group to deliver your pitch
Step 3: Design a catchy and attractive pitch to be delivered to the Victorian Government.
Step 4: Discuss the following questions to build your pitch

welfare of the society, here in Victoria, Australia. We started our journey about 10 years, caring for
geriatric, senile people who lack the substantial support from a family. Our services include laughter
and rejoice clubs, physical and occupational therapy, channelling socially isolated people to old age
homes. Other than these, one of our special segment work with disable people both neurological
