Homeland security Border security issues
One of the key issues brought out is the issue of prevention of terror menace. The homeland
security has out in place measures and policies to protect the American people from terrorist
threats entering the country through the borders. This is one of the major issue that led to the
creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) which has remained the top priority of
the years (Manheim, Rich, Willnat, Brians, & Babb, 2012 In spite of various terrorist threats
persisting and evolving the security enterprises has reached their objectives in ensuring safety of
citizens this making America people stronger and extremely resilient. Some of the issues involve
threats from the usage of a weapon of mass destruction weapons such as nuclear and chemical
bombs.
Another issue raised is the implementation of a risk-based strategy in the existing transport
system across the border for maximum security of the United States. Both the intelligence
community and key law enforcers have come up with restrictions in order to enact security
checks across the border and at the same time ensuring the freedom of individuals to move from
one place to another to carry out different activities such as trade and tourism (Manheim et al,
2012). It has also implemented aviation strategies as a measure to coordinate international
colleagues.
Protection of resources, assets and trade regulation. The border has had the key mandate to put
quality measures in order to protect consumers from consumption of harmful products and illegal
goods from entering the country. It also secures the trade of US from illegal businesses. Some
illegal trade include counterfeit merchandise, fake money, and drugs entry.

Another issue is the immigration enforcement strategies put in place in the countries interior to
prevent continued illegal movement of both citizens and products. It is also involved in the
prevention of various disasters. It has put measures to manage and offer immediate response and
aid in case of attack and occurrence of any disaster event (Andreas, 2012). The DHS has also put
a measure to protect citizens from the issue of cyber security. It is evident that people's day to
day lives, the economic progress of the nation and border security depend on a safe and
convenient cyberspace. Cybercrime is therefore prevented as people are protected from
cyberbullying, cyber threat and vulnerabilities involving theft of important confidential
information across the border.
