Introduction
Human development is a process of development of maturity in a person’s body. This
process starts when a female’s ovary releases an egg and after this, the egg enters in
the uterus of a female body. In uterus first an embryo and after this a fetus develops
until the birth. In the given scenario Jenny feeling depressed because in her pre-
eclampsia period she spent many weeks in a hospital and also she received postnatal
depression due to many medicines. The essay is all about how Dave and Jenny are
facing different behaviour.
Stages of human development
Physical, mental, cognitive and intellectual changes happen during the life of an
individual. There is a fixed arrangement of development; nevertheless, the speed of
growth can at times vary depending on numerous factors.
Infancy (0-5 Years): This stage can be defined as the base age in which performance
pattern is designed. At this stage, the baby is highly dependent on others and learns to
speak, eating, holding weights, recognizing people, crawling and walking. In this stage,
a baby needs a lot of love, care, and affection (Miller, et. al., 2012). Without a sufficient,
loving attachment the child may not be able to expand a loving connection in the
upcoming future (ASFAHYADIN, et. al. 2017).
Childhood (5-12 years): This phase is considered as the gang age and the
development of social life. Here, the creativity of a child started. At this stage child goes
to school and learns new skills like running, cycling swimming, reading etc. at this stage
a child needs prise and appreciation otherwise child can develop the feeling of inferiority
and may become scared of failure.
Adolescence (13-20Years): The Adolescence is considered as the conversion stage
among the childhood and adulthood stage. In this stage physical developments speedily
occur. In this stage, the teen faces new experiences and learn how to deal with the
emotions. At this stage, the behaviour changes and they start breaking the rules and

oppose against their parent's wish that is why Chantelle’s mood was changing. She was
smoking and drinking because in this stage teens break the rules and become more
aggressive (Delves, et. al., 2012).
Adulthood (21-65 years): In this stage adjustment of life begins. In this stage individual
have new roles to play like being a father or mother, being the another half. In this
stage, adults become more responsible for the responsibilities and roles (Mariani et. al.,
2012). In this stage, adults care about their family and are more possessive about their
loved ones (Brahmbhatt, et. al. 2013).
Older adulthood (65+ years): In this stage, an individual is more experienced and
faces a speedy decline in mental and physical health. At this stage older adults do not
want to be a burden on their children and they do not want their children to be bothered
because of them this was the reason behind the suicide attempt of Rosie as she did not
want to be a burden to her son. At this stage older adult faces difficulty in maintaining
basic hygiene and most of the time they remain sick. Rosie was also facing
consequences of older adulthood she was suffering from Parkinson's disease.
In the given scenario when Jenny was pregnant with her daughter Chantelle, she faced
many days in the hospital and she took many medicines also at that time. After the birth
of Chantelle Jenny now struggling with a breast tumour and she is feeling very low. She
is thinking that how could he face this situation. Now she is thinking about the last time
when she was pregnant with Chantelle and she faced that situation very bravely. But
this time it is becoming very tough for Jenny to tell this news to his husband Dave and
children Peter and Chantelle. She is not mentally and emotionally prepared for telling
this situation to both her children and her husband (Selvarajan, et. al. 2016).
In the process of human development, Jenny faced many situations before her
daughter’s birth and after that also. Before her birth, she faced the process of prenatal
development. The prenatal process begins with the formations and fertilization of
Zygote. Embryogenesis is a process which works until the child’s birth. The zygote
contains all the genetic styles of his biological characterize which are related to him.
Embryonic development also has its stages like Stage of Morula, stage of the blastula,

stage of gastrula, and the stage of neurula. Before the implementation of these stages,
the embryo lives in protein shells. After a week the embryo not receives any growth but
the body structure of the baby takes a place in mother’s uterus. After the Embryo, a
fetus develops in a mother’s uterus. It took place after 8 weeks of fertilization. The
Fetus has more external features to recognize in comparison with an Embryo. In this
stage, the internal organs start developing in a fetus. This is also necessary for creating
the hormones which are needed throughout the pregnancy. Placenta manages oxygen
and nutrition to a fetus. It also helps to flush out the unnecessary products from the
fetus body. The organs connect the mother and fetus body.
After the birth of Chantelle, Jenny also faced some physiological development in
Chantelle. The three stages of childhood that are play age, school age, and post-school
age are faced by her and in this time period, she faced many types of differences in
Chantelle. She faced her attitude change; she also phases her physical changes
(Chang, et. al., 2015).
So, Jenny faced those situations very well but now the situation which is in front of her
is “Breast tumour”. She faced the pregnancy situation at that time but now it becoming
very hard for her to face this situation and she is feeling very depressed. She doesn’t
discuss this with her husband Dave. She is not finding ways to tell her. Although Dave is
a better husband Jenny is not getting any idea how she will face Dave when she tells
about this situation. The other factor faced by Jenny that she faced a difficult pregnancy
when Chantelle was not born and now she is feeling the same fear about the tumour.
Now, Jenny is not supporting to be strong because in her pregnancy she suffered and
the same feeling is running in her mind that she has to face that pain again. She is
feeling shocks of diagnosis. The physical condition of Jenny is not well now; she has no
ability to face the diagnosis and other therapies in the hospital. Also, she is uncertain
about her future. She has no idea about what will she do in the future and how would
she face that situation. Because of her past experiences, she loosed herself confidently.
She is having many types of confusions in her mind regarding her breast tumour. Jenny
is facing her mood swings problems, she is facing sadness and low of confident anytime
and that’s why she can’t be able to describe this disease with her husband Dave. She

is feeling distressed. She has a fear that after the treatment is the tumour could impact
on her again. Jenny is thinking in the future if she conceives pregnancy than how she
would manage. Is the tumour will affect her pregnancy? She has a fear about the
Chemotherapy session. Jenny is finding it difficult to tell Dave about it but by facing
these types of problem jenny should try to face them confidently. Jenny should try to tell
about this situation to her husband Dave. He will try to give her support in her difficult
time of life. Dave is a good husband he supported Jenny throughout their journey of life.
So, Jenny needs to be so confident that Dave will support her mentally. Also, there are
many support channels which could be helpful for Jenny. Like she can use American
cancer society Reach to Recovery program. This program is beneficial for patients who
are facing the breast tumour. Jenny needs to research this and she can ask their
questions which she felt could be asked about her tumour issue (Liu, et. al. 2016).
She can receive some advice also from there. She can dial their helpline number and
could ask about the problems which she is facing. Jenny needs to live in groups like she
should try to spend more time with her families and friends it will reduce her stress level
and she will not think anytime about her breast tumour. She should try to read some
good books and try to avoid sadness. If she faces this situation confidently the family
also is strong and if she feels sadness than it will be effective for her family also. Jenny
needs to identify the factors which affect her mood and she has to remove them from
her mind so she can feel stress less. She needs to do some exercises it plays a good
role to convert the mood swings. Jenny should try to take small meals from time to time
in a day. She needs to control her sugar level and insulin level stable. She should try
some techniques which could mould her moods like Yoga, meditation, massage, and
acupuncture. She should try to express her emotions in front of her family and friends.
Most importantly she should try to tell everything to her husband Dave because he can
support her in a proper manner and by the help of his support, she could be able to face
all the therapies and treatment for the breast tumour (Shukla, et. al., 2013).
On the other side, Dave is the kind of person who thinks that he is very fortunate that he
found a family like this. His family is his strength and he can’t think about his life without
them. The arguments of Dave are being run with her parents but he does not feel any
6

negative things about them. He is trying to do his best for her family and for her parents
also. Dave worked as a builder for almost 20 years but he got an injury in his back.
Dev’s mother Rosie also fallen from somewhere and she was hospitalized. Dave is very
concern about her mother and she wants to take her in his home for some days. He
wants her mother to become well in a short time. He wants to take her home because it
will be good for her and the mother of Dave will overcome his injuries. (Chauhan, 2013).
Dave has a good thought in his mind but on the other side, he is thinking that it will be
an effect on her family environment. Dave is thinking that the family environment must
be not good if he takes his mother to his home. Dave’s mother is not happy with his
family and this is the reason Dave is thinking about the family environment. Dave has a
thought that he is also having his back injury and in this situation how it would be
possible for him to look after his mother Rosie. Dave’s children Chantelle and Peter also
not able to look after their grandmother as Peter used to go school and Chantelle has
an aggressive nature so, it will be difficult for Dave to manage this situation (Hoeffel, et.
al. 2015).
Dave needs to be available for his mother anytime and it could be not possible for him.
Jenny, wife of Dave also suffering from a tumour and it is also difficult for her to look
after Dev’s mother. So there are many difficulties which could be faced by Dave and his
family. Dave is feeling this because of his social emotions such as empathy, envy, and
anger. Dave has a feeling that his mother has a different opinion for different issues and
sometimes it does not match with his children and his wife Jenny. The situation is very
critical in front of Dev. Dev’s Mother Rossi has different values and believes and it could
be a cause of clash between Jenny and Rossi. There is also an issue in their
relationships and that is lack of respect. Dave is thinking that there would be not a
situation between his wife and his mother.
Dave is facing these problems but there could be some solutions which he can further
use like, the communication always plays the best role for a problem. Dave needs to
talk with his mother Rossie and try to teach his children and Jenny to be calm and have
patience. Dave should try to have some fun with his family and they should take Rossie
also out with them. Dave needs to provide time to his family to maintain a healthy

relationship. It is assumed that things are not going well for Dave but, it is necessary for
Dave to manage some time for his family and have fun with them. This time will help
them to understand each other’s nature and value. Dave needs to create a good budget
planning for his family as well as for his mother. Dave could manage some external help
from his close friends. There is an online website called Relationships Australia. Dave
could take help from there. The poor communication is a factor which affects sometimes
on relations and Dave needs to improve the communication structure in his family. Dave
needs to be positive and happy in front of his family. If he will be positive then it will be
easy for him to ask about an individual’s problem. There may be some different opinion
between the parents and children but Dave and his family need to be calm and
respectful in front of his mother Rossie. The family should try to avoid a conversation
when everyone is depressed and angry. They should try to manage a time when
everyone is happy and available for their opinions on the related issue (Charkhabi, et.
al., 2016).
Health and social care practitioners help people who are having problems with their
physical and mental health. Health and social care practitioners may help them by
providing support and asking them what is bothering them. Health and social care
practitioners help people to adjust to the changes they are experiencing. So by taking
care of them mentally and physically, they might be able to help them.
