CST teachings and the ideas of common good
The Catholic Social Teaching (CST) has preached so far that human beings or individuals are
social animals who are created to be most superior by God and every act against them will be
against the holy power. Respect for human life is the most important duty of society and
individuals living in it. The dignity of the human races is the most profound teaching of the
Catholic social teachings. As every human life is precious, there should be no greed and
selfishness present in the society and in every kind of dealings. This theme does challenge the
issues of the death penalty, punishments, cloning of humans, abortions and other negativities like
drugs, torture, and suicides or self-harm(Baker, 2015).
Such teachings are believed to be practiced not only in the particular group and religion but are
to be used by the whole society in matters of economics, business, politics and laws. Individuals
are the product of the social community starting from his own family, schools and other broad
institutions that they are part of. Even religion is an institution to them, and the world population
is divided into different religious institutions where these individuals are made fanatics of the
special beliefs. But over the years several studies have proved the fact no matter whatever the
religion is their belief system is the same, that of, love, compassion, tolerance, and sustainability.
Human dignity will be protected only when all human rights are identified. It is the duty of the
social institutions to identify the rights of every individual and legalise them. Fear of punishment
against the violation of these rights will make the society bound together. Otherwise, it will be n
anarchy where only the survival of the fittest will prevail(Frémeaux et al.,2018).
In our society, a large chunk of the human population is below the poverty line where they are
deprived of most of the human rights that CST has underlined. The “haves” have always
preceded over the “have nots” and deprived them of the basic human needs and rights. The rights
to work, fair wages, strengthening of rights through unions are all that they should get. These
rights protect the dignity of the poor and the oppressed. Respecting and making these rights
functional is the duty of the humankind as a whole(Sison, Ferrero & Guitián,2018).
The Catholic society believes in the fact that the common good is attained through,
individualism, and indifference towards any caste, creed, class, race, and religion. A solidarity

that is talking the entire world population as one and loving them despite all differences is the
motto (Miller,2015).
Protection of the human kind and the society and all gods' creations is the sole duty, and that
should be done through respecting and preserving all creations of God, by protecting the ecology
and the environment.It is believed that every person is entitled to experience the resources of this
world equally, the principle of the common good(Naughton, 2015).
Social injustice and reconciliation through self-practice
The present age is the age of professionals. Corporate lives have taken over the personal lives
and most of the time of the day is spent in professional institutions. Earning has become the
prime motivation for living as everything is getting scarce. Hence professional ethics should
inculcate the CST all the more to maintain peace, harmony and social justice within the society.
The individuals of society depend on each other's professional qualities to sustain. To manage
health, business, finance, household, and everything.
Reconciliation: Individuals are vulnerable when it comes to living their lives all alone. They
need the help of others to live in a society. Hence, ethical integrity and equality are necessary
among the professionals and the institutions delivering services. Hence, it is more important for
these professional like me in working as a human resource professional to identify the weaker
section of the population who need their help in order to survive. Hence, a n HR professional
thinks of the greater gain than one’s personal gain. And it is the act that the professionals today
are at the important decision makers of the society and the major institutions of the
society(Taylor, 2018).
