INTRODUCTION
Employability skills are important abilities which are involved personal qualities and
values that allow thriving in new workplace. It involves good communication, leadership,
adaptability, dependability, team work, emotional control, motivation etc. Employee build their
employability skills through involving in paid work, volunteering, sport and other group
activities. These skills are building block of career and success to employees (Jackson, 2014).
The employability skills are essential for getting along with and working well with other person,
being reliable and dependable and willingness to learn new abilities in the workplace. This study
is based on Travelodge hotel. It is travel and tourism company in hospitality industry. This report
will develop responsibilities and performance objectives as well as evaluate its effectiveness. It
will make recommendation for improving the performance and review motivational techniques.
Furthermore, study will also develop solutions to work based problems and variety of
communication style at different levels in hotel. It will identify effective time management
strategies in terms of work based experience in the firm. Moreover, report will explain different
roles of people for team work at the firm. It will analysis team dynamic and suggests alternative
ways to achieve goals.
TASK 1
1. Develop set of own responsibilities and performance objective
I am working as human resource manager in the Travelodge. Therefore, I will develop
my responsibilities such as direct and indirect relationship, decision making processes and skills,
ability to learn, employment rights and responsibilities etc. My performance objectives is to
manage workforce and resources in the workplace.
Personal Responsibility: I will develop my personal responsibilities such as build direct
and indirect relationship with employees, making decisions and abilities as well as ability to
learn in the Travelodge. I will consider different employment legislation and make decisions
relating to customer services, health and safety, anti-discrimination and duties, ethics. I will
evolve ability to learn and different skills such as communication, leadership, interpersonal,
problem solving skill that are essential for working in team at the hotel. My responsibility is to
build relationship, effective communication, conflict resolution and taking care of employee
rights in the hotel. My responsibility is to define mission and vision of firm, identify legal duties
and other skills. I will manage my time for completing work or activity in the workplace. I will

also communicate with my staff and supervisors that will help to completing my task and fulfil
my responsibilities in the workplace. With communication, I will build relationship with my staff
and superiors in the firm.
Performance Objectives: I will develop my all responsibilities and skills for improving
my performance objectives. My execution aim is to maintain the employee retention rate in the
Travelodge. For that, I will set and monitor performance objectives of my employees, so that
they are effectively working in firm. I will determine different sources such as professional
standard, organizational goals, performance appraisal etc. I will identify and assess different
ways such as employee performance, utilization of resources for achieving organizational aim
and objectives. I will develop many professional standards, develop my strength and improve my
weakness as well as create chances to achieve my performance objective in the organization.
Through it, I will complete my job role and responsibility, achieve my personal and professional
goals.
2. Effectiveness against defined objective
I will improve effectiveness of defined objectives for effective working in the
Travelodge. For that, I will utilize different formal review system such as appraisal, peer review,
supervision, personal review in terms of strengths and weakness. This can help to increase
effectiveness of defined objective in the organization. I will set and monitor performance
objectives that aid to raise effectiveness of my execution. I will take review from peer, develop
strength and improve weakness for effectiveness of performance objectives. In this context, I
will follow different performance appraisal systems such as 360 degree feedback, paired
comparison, rating scale for improving performance of employee in the Travelodge.
In this context, I will develop strength, abilities and competencies for achieving the
performance purpose in the organization. I will improve communication skills, build direct and
indirect relationship with employees, leadership ability, learning skills that help to accomplish
and increase the effectiveness of performance objective. I will take review from peer and
supervisor about performance of employees in relation to effective work in the organization.
Therefore, I will complete my responsibilities and job roles, legal duties for accomplish my
performance and increase effectiveness of my objective in the Travelodge. In relation to, I will
make effort to supervise and lead team for achieving organizational objectives and goals.

3. Make recommendation for improvement
It is necessary to improve all weaknesses and increase effectiveness, so that, I must have
followed different training and development methods such as coaching, mentoring, changing
working style, training need assessment, changing the environment etc. in terms of improving
performance of my employees in the Travelodge. However, workers can provide product and
services to customer in the firm (Rao, 2014). In this context, I will effectively coach and lead to
employees, so that, they can effectively work on team and achieve the team goals. I will give
better training and development through mentoring and coaching for developing skills and
capabilities to workers in the organization.

I will develop my confidence skill for attending the training sessions, make own
decisions and managing my time as well as completing task on time. Also, my decision making
skills, so that I will take advice from my superiors. In this context, I will try to change working
style, environment, effective communication and build relationship for improving presentation in
the workplace. I will give particular task for each and every employee in particular time period.
By this way, I will identify the ability and competency for execution of employees. Then, I will
give appropriate training and development to improve and develop weak skills and capabilities
that will help to worker in terms of effective perform task. Therefore, I will follow process of
training need assessment for improving the presentation to worker in the hotel in relation to
provide the effective services to consumers in the workplace.
In relation to that, I will try to change the environment and culture of working in the
organization. I will ensure that workers are performing better and effectively through develop
their skills and capabilities. In relation to that, I will give effective training, development as well
as organizing different management programs and events, so that employees build their relation
with other worker and developing knowledge for improve performance in the workplace.
4. Review motivational techniques
Human resource manager always ensure about performance of employees in the
organization. Therefore, they follow different techniques for raise motivation and improve
performance in the Travelodge. Techniques involves create positive working environment,
giving the incentives, sharing the profits, giving benefits etc. Also, HR manager need to take
review of all motivation techniques in the workplace.
Providing incentives: HR manager requires providing incentives according to
employees performance for increasing motivation. Therefore, they create and implement polices
for incentives to every worker or team incentives for motivating employees as team (Collet, Hine
and du Plessis, 2015). There are two types of incentives such as financial and non financial
which involves gifts, cash prizes, extra holidays, choice office space etc. that can increase
motivation of employees. If the HR officer do not provide appropriate incentives, so that
negatively impact on motivation and satisfaction level of employees. Therefore, they need to
give some financial incentives which help to increase motivation and level of satisfaction
positively of employees in the workplace.

Encourage Collaboration: Individual motivation can be very strong technique of
motivating worker. Therefore, HR manager needs to set up team building exercises so that
people to get to know each other. This can be improve abilities to work with each other during
tasks. Also, they make healthy environment between people that increase motivation and sure to
encourage collaboration between employees in the Travelodge. If HR officer do not try for
encourage the collaboration among workers that impact negatively on employees' performance
such as demotivation, dissatisfaction etc. in the workplace. But in contrast, human resource
officer regular tries to promote cooperation between workers, so that it impact positively on
employee's performance and their motivation in the business.
Maslow need hierarchy theory: It is theory of motivation that involves different needs
of people such as physiological, safety, social, esteem and self actualization. Physiological needs
includes food, shelter and clothing that are required for human survival. Safety involve security,

relationship, trust and acceptance etc. Esteem wants involve dignity, achievement etc. Self
actualization includes self -fulfilment, personal growth. Through this approach, HR manager
make efforts to increase motivation and improve quality of performance to employees in the
workplace. The negative impact of this theory is to assume that all employees experience these
wants in similar order and failing to identify cultural and individual difference. The positive
impact of this theory is to improve performance, behaviour and increase motivation in the
workplace.

2.1 Develop solution of work-based problems
There are many problems of work-based such as labour turnover, demotivation, low job
satisfaction, interpersonal conflicts, low wages or benefits, extend working hours, lack of
promotion and so on that are faced by HR manager in the Travelodge. Therefore, they make
efforts to identify the issues and develop solution for it. HR manager develop some solutions
such as:
Lack of motivation: There are high level of demotivation of employees on the
workplace. Therefore, HR officer give training and development for solving work-based
problems relating to low job satisfaction, lack of motivation and labour turnover (Deeley, 2014).
