Introduction
The steps to identify the potential employee that will be fitting in to your company culture or
personality is “hiring for fit”. It focuses on recruiting right talent to the organisation. To find
the candidate who have the desired skills and experience as per the role in the organisation.
Body
When the organisation hires a person they expect the employee to become a long-lasting and
valuable employee to the organisation. The organisation can provide necessary resources to
employee for obtaining skills for their jobs. but they cannot teach an employee to align with
the cultural values of the organisation. There are several ways to build cultural fit during
hiring and recruitment processes (Mello J.A., pg 1-12)
Cultural fit: This term is used to define a candidate’s ability to “fit in” values and ethics of
an organization. Cultural fit has become more popular recently as companies have started
looking for candidates who not only perfectly match the job description, but who also fit the
company culture as a whole. Having a strong culture at an organisation brings a positive
environment and attracts more talent to the organisation.
The cultural plays a vital role in the success of the organisation, unique culture at workplace
maintains a fun, passionate, and ethical work environment. As different candidates as a
different set of skills, the trick is to find the candidate that fits in the company culture (Forbes
2018).
How to Do It
Asking behavioural questions to the candidates brings the insight of the potential employee
which the organisation is looking for and how well the candidate will fit in company culture.
For example, describe the culture you are looking for your ideal company.
Scientific data is obtained from pre-hire assessments such as cognitive and personality test,
which indicates the behaviour of an employee in real life situation. These are some steps
which an organisation should follow to hire candidate suitable as per the culture of the
organization (Margolis, 2016).

Have an organised hiring process laid out – This will ensure you can focus your
efforts on choosing the best candidate and not spend all of your time managing back-
end processes.
Ask the right interview questions
Use pre-hire assessments
Trust your gut (Forbes, 2018)
Avoiding Discrimination
There is a minor difference between hiring a candidate for cultural fit and employment
discrimination. Human resource department and management tend to drift towards the people
who are similar to them and this brings discrimination in the recruitment process. The best
way to remove discrimination is communication by which an organisation can communicate
its culture to the people in the company. As the culture is defined it is easier to get people
who can become an asset for an organisation, it also improves the productivity of the
organisation (Hackernoon, 2018).
According to (Johnson search group, 2017) Pros of cultural fit in an organisation:
Increased Productivity – Like-minded people coordinate easily and teamwork become
easier.
Mentally Happier People – Employees who are culture fit promotes mental happiness.
Employee Retention – The employees who fit in well with company culture tend to
stay longer in the organisation.
Skills Can Be Trained – Employees can be given training to improve their skills.
According to (Johnson search group, 2017) Cons of cultural fit in an organisation:
Lack of Diversity – It creates the situation of smugness in an organisation.
Missing Out On Great Talent – By hiring same type of employees companies miss out
other talent.
Millennials – It becomes less attractive for millennials to work.
Lack of Skills – increases cost of training for the organisation.
