INTRODUCTION
In the present scenario, practices related to human resource has become very crucial for
overall growth and success of a business enterprise (Hendry, 2012). Furthermore, it helps
companies to carry out smooth flow of all their operations and achieve desired goals. The
present research report is based on Hilton Hotel, UK and the study explains key functions linked
with HR within the selected business enterprise.

Description of company
Hilton Hotel is one of the most renowned brand in the travel and tourism industry of the
world. Further, the organization delivers different types of food and accommodation related
services to travelers and tourist in the country. The company was founded in the year 1919 and
in terms of employees size, it can be stated that it is operating with a workforce of around
164000 employees worldwide.
Type of employees
Employees are considered as one of the most important assets for a company such as
Hilton hotel. Effective and skilled workers, helps the selected business enterprise to deliver fast,
accurate and satisfactory services to people in the market or to customers. According to the
model of Atkinson flexible firm, there are four major types of flexibility which exists in a
particular business enterprise in terms of employment (Bratton. and Gold, 2012). The types of
flexibility are mainly classified as external numerical flexibility, internal numerical flexibility,
wage flexibility and functional flexibility. In terms of Hilton Hotel, it can be stated that the
selected business has high degree of functional flexibility as the employees are capable enough
to perform different types of task, activities and functions.
HR function
The selected business enterprise is operating with a dedicated human resource
management practices. The key role and responsibilities of HR in Hilton Hotel includes staffing,
recruitment, selection, appraisal, retention, training and development etc. The HR manager in the
company takes care of the fact that a effective process of selection is followed to fill the vacant
post in the organization.

It can be stated that the Human resource in Hilton Hotel is very effective and it is also
contributing very high in success of the selected business. At present no discrimination is carried
out among workers and all staff members are being offered with equal opportunities for growth
and development. Apart from this, a fair and transparent process of reward and employee
appraisal has been used and this has resulted in creating sense of satisfaction among all workers
(Purce, 2014). Hilton Hotel also identifies training needs of employees at regular intervals and
takes corrective measures regarding the satisfaction of the same.
Model of Strategic Human resource Management
Strategic HRM consist of various model which includes of corporate strategy because
these are formed by top managers. Internal and external environment also play crucial role
because from external point of view government has main interference in organization and
internal environment involves of business strategy which are formed by managers. In addition to
this, HRIS (Human resource information system) helps in making of strategy by providing some
essential information to employees. Furthermore, training and performance management also
crucial because through proper training employees develop their skills and knowledge in order to
this, they are provided incentive from this they get motivated and perform well in future.
HR functions at different management levels
Strategic level – At this level the human resource practices of company lays emphasis on
identification of the demand of future human resources (Storey, 2014). Here, plans are being
developed to manage workforce and maintain them in best possible manner.
Operational level - The function of human resources becomes complicated at this level as
the HR manager of Hilton Hotel needs to focus on carrying out activities such as recruitment and
selection.
Functional level- At this level HR in selected business performs the task of resolving the
issues and conflicts of employees.

Recruitment refers to searching and obtaining of potential candidate by desiring
knowledge, skills and experience though this it allow organization to select appropriate candidate
for filling up job vacancies by describing of specification and description for particular job.
Moreover, purpose of recruitment process is to find out varied applicants by providing
opportunities to select suitable people for organization (Buller. and McEvoy, 2012). Selection of
candidate is identified through recruitment process by selecting of appropriate candidate from
interview process and writing test. Furthermore selection process includes of fair, equitable
decision by assessment of whole activities.

Whereas, recruitment in UK consist of various legal rules and regulation that are
vacancy, grading, equality, interview, appointment and advertisement because UK government is
very particular in recruiting a person in job. Therefore, if any applicant receive problem then that
manager is restricted from that job. Selection of candidate is based on interview process and
group discuss they does not involve of any written test.
