The report is based on the human resource planning of National Supermarket, which is a
privately owned supermarket chain having twenty stores in SE Asia. The supermarket chain is
planning to expand their business in rest of Singapore. For their expansion they need new
employees, this report is based on the human resource planning consisting of activities mainly,
recruitment, selection, performance management, remuneration and reward of three positions,
retail assistants, checkout operators and security and loss prevention personnel. All these
positions are very important position for any supermarket. All the details including the number
of employees and their shift timings are mentioned in this report. The selection and recruitment
process, performance measurement tools and remuneration policies of the supermarket has been
discussed in detail.
Introduction
Human resource planning is an important function of every organization where large
numbers of employees are working. National super market chain is a privately owned
supermarket chain 20 stores in SE Asia, their stores are small, and only have one brand in each
all products “National-brand tinned peaches”, National work with their suppliers to develop
a unique brand of tinned peaches “Sunset Gold tinned peaches” for example, which is
supplied only to National (Marchington et al. 2016).
On the other hand, National super market guarantees that they will only stock a
specific brand of tinned peaches, therefore ensuring a source of inventories in the organization.
This plan is a mixture of Porter’s “Focus” and “Cost Leadership” strategies, have worked
well (Reiche et al. 2016).

They are planning to expand in the rest of the Singapore very soon. For rollout of their
store in Singapore they will be proposing a human resource planning. For their HR project would
be conducted in three stages, the report mainly focuses on human resource plan, mainly
recruitment, selection, employee performance management and remuneration and rewards. All
the human resource activities will be based on three job positions, the selected three job positions
are, retail assistants, checkout operators and security and loss prevention personnel (Aswathappa
2013).
Conclusion
The human resource planning of National supermarket can be said that is an operational
strategy, it is very important for the organization and in case of National Supermarket chain
which is planning to expand their services in the rest of the Singapore. They have taken a number
of planning activities related to human resource so that their employees efficiently provide
excellent customer service. The positions selected for human resource planning are the one of the
most important positions. A proper human resource planning considering the important functions
like, recruitment, selection, performance management and remuneration and reward of retail
assistants, security and loss prevention personnel and checkout operators will lead to effective
human resource planning as well as management and will enhance the operational efficiency of
the retail. It is very important that all the strategies are as per the policies of the Government
related to industrial relation and labor laws. National supermarkets have taken into consideration
the minimum wages, working hours and overtime pay. They have also kept in mind the ethical
considerations related to the recruitment and selection process.
