Human services fields are enumerated extensively to illustrate objectives and the
fundamentality of studying human needs using interdisciplinary ideologies to discuss relevant
remedies to problems faced by man (Coursen & Ferns, 2004). The study of human services
critically majors on delivering initiatives that will enhance the quality of life in the community.
The professionals in these fields promote improved services that are delivered to organizations
and agencies to advance accountability, coordination and accessibility of operation systems. This
paper discusses the field of human services for a college freshman outlining its significance and
application in the daily economic activities.
Discussion of Human Services
The application of human services in people’s lives enhances the improvement of life
standards. Bearing a broad definition, human services cater for the needs of humankind in a
unique manner by applying interdisciplinary ideas that aim at delivering remedies to different
problems faced by human beings. The field’s professionals bear a generic definition for
individuals who hold paraprofessionals and expert positions in extensive situations as halfway
homes and group facilities such as intelligent disability centers, societal dental health hubs,
family agencies and rehabilitation centers. The exact form of human services offered in a facility
is dependent of employment definition, types of clients and job descriptions. According to Faix,
MacDonald & Taxakis (2014), the knowledge of human services will enable graduates to help
the community and individuals to operate effectively as a single domain of life. Professional
human service providers show a strong ambition to help the community. This is possible if

human service experts exercise patience, care and understanding with clients to illustrate their
degree of professionalism.
Significance
Understanding system nature of humans: The community, companies and individual groups
interact effectively due to availability of human services. All the professionals have different
obligations to undertake to comprehend the whole idea of human enhancement and development.
Studying the system nature to improve individual and group dynamics, structure of companies
and organization of the society are key fundamentals of human services (Holzinger, Ziefle, Hitz
& Debevc, 2013). These fields critical evaluates how society policies are formulated and the
level at which systems operate to mitigate humankind daily issues.
Understanding and acknowledging different conditions that limit operations: Human service
discipline presents the assumption of how systems operate to enhance the expected functionality
concerned with human problems. These fields allow professionals to have prior knowledge about
different models that cause human problems (e.g. health issues) and proposal of health functions
such as setting up rehabilitation facilities (Hounmenou, 2012). As for healthcare concerns,
mitigating actions may include societal orientation, medical programming, psychological
scheduling, and education measuring and orientation.
Skill selection: Human services help to identify and select intervention techniques to enhance
growth and attainment of specific community goals. With complete knowledge about human
services, an individual will be capable of conducting an intellectual analysis of a particular
human problem and pinpoint services, strategies and interventions that will help the community

to achieve a particular objective. The pinpointed interventions include specific advocacy,
assistance, counseling and advocacy.
Application
The application of human services discipline varies depending on expertise, work
obligation and time spent in the work premise. However, these fields are applicable in:
 Community-based surroundings: Human services are applied by professionals in
community settings, which operate in a great extension according to the stipulated
worksheet (Linley & George-Jackson, 2013). Working in these surroundings for an
approximate 40 hours in a week, experts apply human service principle to meet the
demands of both in-door and out-door clients.
 Residential surroundings: The principles of human services allow professionals to work
in residential areas. Group homes and setting residents require extensive supervisions
timely which relates to scheduling lessons taught in human service fields. Therefore, with
the application of scheduling lessons, professions offer supervision in the evening, night
and weekly as expected.
 Residential healthcare facilities and institutional surroundings: Human services fields are
applied in various community settings including residential healthcare sectors and
institutional settings to deliver direct services like organizing specific activities, leading a
particular group or offering counselling services to clients. These fields equip graduates
with prior knowledge on how to offer quality administrative assistance, aligning
organization policies with company goals and establishing staffing patterns (Wiener &

Rosenwald, 2008). Human service fields also allow individuals to gain understanding
about staffing and preparing workers efficiently based on working experience and level
of education.
Conclusion
Human services fields are interdisciplinary programs with strategize to cater for the needs
and demands of the community using applied knowledge basis. These fields concentrate on
delivering mitigating approaches to human issues to enhance and maintain the standardized
quality of living in the community (Coursen & Ferns, 2004). Knowledge assessment about
human services disciplines encompasses the analysis and study of social initiatives such as
methodologies, models and relevant theories or frameworks; service initiatives like
organizations, programs and systems; and scientific approaches that are meant to solve human
problems and improve the living standard of the community.
