INTRODUCTION
Business process is defined as the process which consists of several steps that
performed by an individual in order to achieve goals and objectives of an organisation
(Baiyere, Salmela and Tapanainen, 2020). This report aims to apply the business process into
practice where an individual is able to learn about business process mapping and business
process analysis. It is very important for every individual to understand the concept of
business process in the organisation as without business process an organisation is not able to
achieve their goals and objectives. Business process is including series of steps that all are
performed for the purpose of achieving a concrete goal. Each step in a business process is
assigned to specific participants according to their skills and knowledge. In this respect,
Woolworth’s supermarket will be undertaking in order to show the importance of business
process for them and how they apply in their business. Woolworths is found to be an
Australian chain of supermarket that has an approximate market share of 33% in Australia. It
is found that they are specialising in groceries. Woolworths has approximately 225000
employees who work in worldwide. The headquartered of Woolworths is situated in Bella
Vista, Wales in Australia. The success and growth of an organisation is depending on the
business process so that's why this report will be discussing learning about business process
mapping and business process analysis.

Business process is found to be the series of steps which perform in organisation so
that company is able to achieve their goals and objectives. Supply chain is playing a very
important role in the success and growth of an organisation and that's why this process is
selected in order to understand business process mapping and business process analysis
(Yang and et.al., 2020). With the help of analysing supply chain process of Woolworths, an
individual is able to understand that how supply chain is going into practice of company. For
that purpose, it is necessary for an organisation to build a relationship map that describes a
business process of an organisation. Relationship map is defined as the visual diagram which
enables people to see abroad view of connections in organisation. It plays a very important
role in the business operation and processes as it helps to gain a high level of understanding

of different operations of an organisation. It includes different entities of business such as
stakeholders, functional departments, groups, user roles, etc.
With the help of above diagram, the supply chain process of Woolworths is showing
that how how they complete order and manage their goods and services. In a process, a
disconnect is defined as anything which provided a negative impact on the efficiency and
effectiveness of business process (Vom Brocke and Mendling, 2018). In the supply chain
process, there are many possible disconnect can be identified. For example, customers are not
receiving orders on time. Supply chain process is very important for Woolworths as it helps
to satisfy the customers needs and wants. This is the reason that it is necessary to make some
improvements in this process. This relationship map is showing that supply chain process is
found to be one of the complex processes as it included many persons and processes such as
enabling processes, ordering processes and support processes. The above relationship map of
supply chain process showing that how an organisation get order and manage order according
to the needs and wants of customers.
Cross-functional map and explanations
It is important for every organisation that there are different types of maps should be
used in organisation so that they are able to achieve the goals and objectives. It is identified
that stakeholders are playing a very important role in the organisation and also for completion
of a business process (Mendling, Pentland and Recker, 2020). It is not possible for a company
to complete a business process without the inclusion of stakeholders. This is the main reason
that there is a cross-functional map is presented below which shows a relationship between

processing and stakeholders. A cross functional map is a diagram which refers to a
deployment flowchart. It shows a relationship between stakeholders and a process. It involves
multiple decisions which become an important part of the entire company workflow. For
example, lead management, product development, client orders processing and other
important processes. It is important to note that cross functional diagram is very helpful in
order to identify problematic steps with in a process and also clarified the employees’
responsibilities. In the supply chain process of Woolworths, it is crucial for an organisation
then they needs to find the problematic stabs which helps them to find the solution as well. In
addition to this, Woolworths is able to clarify the employees’ responsibility in an effective
way which makes the success and growth in practical life.
The above cross functional map of Woolworths is showing that how they are
integrated the suppliers with their organisation. It also shows a relationship between
stakeholders and a business process (Chatterjee, Ghosh and Chaudhuri, 2020). The above
diagram includes external stakeholders in the process where suppliers provided raw materials
for the purpose of manufacturing final products and services. It also shows that how supply
chains work with process in order to provide a final product to the ultimate potential
customers. It includes sales, research and development design, work planning, purchase and
production.
Process analysis and explanations
It is important in the business process that organisation should use performance
measures which helps them to measure the performances of organisation. A performance
measure is defined as a numeric description of the result of organisational work (Zelt and
et.al., 2019). On the basis of cross-functional map, some important performance measures
which can be used such as efficiency, output and outcome. Outcome measures are defined as

the type of performance measure which is used to determine the extent to which a core
function, product, service or activity provided an impact on audience. With the help of
outcome measure, organisation is able to know their progress or achievement of mission or
goals. It includes percent of entities in compliance with requirements, percent of clients
rehabilitated, etc. Efficiency measure is used to monitor the relationship between the
resources used and the amount produced. Efficiency measure is created with the comparison
of output and input. In efficiency measures, two important types are used which includes
productivity and unit cost. Unit cost is for the purpose of comparing input and output. It is
important for every organisation that there are different types of maps should be used in
organisation so that they are able to achieve the goals and objectives (Brin, and et.al., 2020).
It is identified that stakeholders are playing a very important role in the organisation and also
for completion of a business process. It is not possible for a company to complete a business
process without the inclusion of stakeholders. This is the main reason that there is a cross-
functional map is presented below which shows a relationship between processing and
stakeholders. Outcome measures can be used in the last step of functional map. Whereas,
efficiency measure is used just before delivering the goods and services to customers. The
necessity of efficiency measure for Woolworths is found to be important as it helps them to
ensure that the products possess some quality and customers will be definitely like. On the
other hand outcome measures is necessary to use after delivering the goods and services to
customers because there are many deviations occurred which cannot be understand without
measuring the outcome. When company is measuring the outcome of an organisation then
they are able to understand what the factors are provided a negative impact on customers.
Flowchart
Supply chain is a wide process which includes many important elements such as
material flow, information flow and money flow. It is necessary that the supply chain should
be effective of an organisation as the only company is able to achieve their goals and
objectives. The flow chart of supply chain of Woolworths show that how they are flowing the
material, information and money (Kasim, Haracic and Haracic, 2018). From the below flow
chart of supply chain, it is analysed that material are flowing towards customers and money
flow towards vendor. On the other hand information flow both sides because it is necessary
for an organisation to possess information about the consumer taste and preferences. In the
similar way, it is crucial for customers that they should possess information about the
organisation from where they will get goods. In addition to this, it is necessary to understand

that what is the importance of visibility and failsafe point in the flowchart. Supply chain
visibility is crucial for organisation as it is defined as the ability which is used to track
individual components, final products and sub assemblies as it travels from suppliers to
manufacturer to consumer. It can be possible with the use of supply chain management
technologies so that organisation is able to provide a real-time data about logistics and other
important aspects of supply chain. Supply chain visibility is not on the applicable for internal
but also for external partners. Every organisation knows that modern supply chain are very
complex in nature and that's why it is crucial to track raw material and finished goods. For
that purpose, line of visibility is required in the supply chain process (Role of Visibility in
Supply Chain Management, 2019). It requires between the procurement and warehouse. On
the other hand, fail safe are the points which is designed in such a way that not provide any
harm if anything goes wrong. In the supply chain process, two fail safe points will be used in
which first of them is developing and prioritising a supply is program and another is
contingency planning. Both are important and it will work if any problems found in the
supply chain process.
Process synthesis
It is very important to know that business process is playing a crucial role in the
success and growth of an organisation. It is identified that without business process, an
organisation is not able to achieve the goals because it is a series of steps which helps an
organisation to complete their task and process (Schniederjans, 2018). This is the reason that
one important process is selected in this regard i.e. supply chain process. Woolworths is
found to be one of the largest retailers in Australia that run their business very well. The
success is depend on their business process that how they do businesses. It is identified that
they are giving prioritisation to customers first and after that they are planning to design a
business process. This can be better understood with the help of supply chain process which
already discussed in above sections. It is identify that supply chain process is crucial for

company and this is the reason to use relationship map, cross-functional map, process
analysis and flow charts. It also analysed that making of flowcharts provided and assistance
to organisation as it provides an easy way of understanding the whole process (Rialti and
et.al., 2018).
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the above discussion that business process is very important
for the organisation as it requires in every stage in the workplaces. There are various kinds of
business processes are identified in the organisation in which supply chain process is found to
be one of the most important processes. It is crucial for an organisation to make the process in
an effective way so that all the steps which are covered in the business process should add
values in the organisation. This report covered relationship map, cross functional map,
process analysis and flowchart of supply chain process. It shows that an organisation needs to
understand and analyse the business process what are achievement of concrete goals.
