Culture is the base of the communication. Values and cultures are the two important pillars of the
health and care sector. Any values or culture, which are founded in the organization are
responsible for communicating about the process in the health and social care. Values and
culture shows that the ethical conduct of any member within an organization is essential. Values
and culture suggest that any patients in the health and care sector have to be taken care of
specially regarding their welfare (Bennett, 2010 ). Values suggest that any patient in the health
and care has to be treated in an unbiased manner. Caste, creed, color, sex and religion has to be
avoided and not taken into consideration while treating a patient or offering treatment to the
patients. Any discriminatory activity has been pardoned in the health and social care sector.
Values suggest that each individual should be treated fairly and their thoughts and opinions have
to be valued. Values are the thoughts of the individuals to be respected. In the case of Vicky,
being a single mother of three teenagers, when she was admitted in the hospital an expectation
came to her that her daughters will come to meet her but it was in despair. Even her thought
process was not valued, when she asked for a towel due to menstruation. Her thoughts and her
opinions were not valued. Any individual be it in the industrial firm or in health and social care,
sector values are the core principles developing the standards of the organization. If
communication between Vicky and the hospital staff were good then her treatment would have
been much easier.
Lack of communication in respect to the values and culture may give rise to hesitation,
discrimination and other scenarios, which will affect both the parties. The patient needs attention
and a positive attitude leads to her mental satisfaction.
