Assessment Task 1:
Purpose of the Document
The purpose of this document is to provide options which are available to improve the brokering business
of MyAbode Mortgage by evaluating its initial options. The aspects which need to improve are as
economical and available resources and to migrate the current option to the cloud environment.
Project Scenario
The scenario is like there is a company named MyAbode which is a melbourne‐based mortgage brokering
business based in one of the fastest growing real estate areas of Western Suburbs.
Possible Solutions
The company is growing rapidly and thus wants to expand its infrastructure. For this they want to
virtualize their servers. They can use any of the following virtualization techniques:
Full Virtualization
Para Virtualization
OS Virtualization
The company’s infrastructure is as follows:
The company has to implement a new solution in order to expand its infrastructure. The new solution
should follow the following criteria before being implemented in the company:
Document Page
Clear and specific reasons for replacing the old technology
Identifiable business and process improvements and benefits
Competitive costs
No added maintenance burden
High compatibility with existing devices and software
Minimal disruption of existing operations
Minimal timeframe for implementation
Before implementing any of the provided virtualization techniques, firstly we have to understand each
one.
Option 1
Full Virtualization
Full virtualization is a type of virtualization technique in which the computer service requests are
separated from the physical hardware that facilitates that. It involves total isolation of guest operating
systems from their hosts.
Features:
It involves the virtualization of everything, i.e. network, machines, servers, memory, storage, etc
It can support multiple operating systems in the same solution.
Installation is quite simple.
Hypervisor directly interact with the hardware such as CPU,disks.
Migration of the host machines will be easy in the future.
Advantages:
All the guest operating system works independent of each other simultaneously.
All isolated guest operating systems can run simultaneously on the same hardware.
This virtualization supports multiple operating system.
The biggest advantage is that the guest operating system is not aware that is being virtualized and thus
requires no modification.
In this virtualization the virtual machines provides a standardized hardware environment that the guest
operating system resides on and interacts with.
Disadvantages:
In this virtualization, the performance gets affected as the application runs slightly slower on the
virtualized servers.
Hyperwiser contain the device driver and it might be difficult for new device drivers to be installer by
users, thus bringing compatibility issues.

Option 2
Para Virtualization
Para virtualization is a type of virtualization approach that allows an interface to the virtual machine that
can differ from that of the underlying hardware. This capacity minimizes overhead and optimizes system
performance by supporting the use of virtual machines that would be underutilized in conventional or full
virtualization.
Features:
All the guest operating systems are aware of each other.
Hypervisor in this type of virtualization does not needs large amount of processing power to manage
guest operating system.
By using this type of virtualization, the entire system works as a cohesive unit.
Advantages:
The biggest advantage of using para virtualization is that the guest operating system can directly
communicate with hypervisor.
Efficiency is increased by using para virtualization.
This virtualization allows users to make use of new device drivers.
Disadvantages:
Para virtualization requires the guest operating system to be modified in order to interact with para
virtualization interfaces.
Compatibility is very low.
Portability is very low.
Maintenance issues in production environment are high.
Option 3
OS Virtualization
Operating system virtualization is a virtualization technology in which a standard operating system can
run different applications handled by multiple users on a single computer at a time. The operating system
do not interfere with each other even though they are on the same computer.
Features:
The features of OS virtualization is same as of the features of para virtualization.
All the guest operating systems are aware of each other.
Hypervisor in this type of virtualization does not needs large amount of processing power to manage
guest operating system.
By using this type of virtualization, the entire system works as a cohesive unit.

Advantages:
Availability of the machine's resources to the applications running in the container is ensured as it
provides little or no overhead.
Provides cost-effective and efficient solution to create similar guests, but possible in some situations only.
Dynamic updates are seen in all the containers if any modifications or patches are done on the host server.
Disadvantages:
It limits the choice for operating systems.
Applications are certified for a certain OS version and patch level only and therefore running of different
applications in the container can cause problems.
Comparison Of Options
Full Virtualization Para Virtualization OS Virtualization
Competitive Cost High High Low
Maintenance Burden Very low High Very high
Compatibility High Medium Low
Disruption of existing
operations
Low Medium High
Timeframe for
implementation
Low High High
Portability High Medium Low
Disaster Recovery High Medium Low

Recommended Option
Taking in considerations, all the aspects of the above virtualization techniques, it seems that Full
Virtualization is the best option to adapt, for the given scenario.
Risks:-
This implementation does have some risks that needs to be considered:
As this solution is going to be implemented on a single physical server, any failure in the hardware will
affect the entire platform.
This solution also brings infrastructure complexity.
Monitoring of the infrastructure events becomes complex
Security becomes very sensitive. And its needs to be handled with full care and smartness.
Virtualization Software’s
VMware vSphere Essentials Kit
Description
VMware Vsphere Essential Kit provides the virtualization platform to the small business which leads
from the industry level at great price. Small Organization can run their business by migrating their
physical servers to virtualized server which can reduce their cost and increase their efficiency without
high inverstment.

Benefits
It simplifies the management and reduce the It management.
It scales the QoS.
Increase the security level and provide high data protection to the data.
Reduce the Physical Infrastructure cost.
What’s Include
In the above scenario we are going to use VMware defined virtualized software KIT.
These software kit includes:-
Vmware Esxi Server 6.5
Vmware Vsphere client
Vmware Vcenter for server Virtualization
The requirement for above mentioned scenario are:
Recommend cores required for Each Esxi server are 2 but we will going deploy 4 cores for better
performance and future expansion.
Since we are going to use only 1 VCenter Server Virtualization so it require 1 License
Note:- This will also include update and new release for VMware products.
Cost Estimation:-
$2250 approx

Server Requirement:-
We will going to use Dell R-840 Rack Server
$9263.70
Total $ 11513

TASK 2
After ensuring that your host machine meets all the hardware requirements for the installation of
VMWare vSphere virtualisation software, download the ISO of vSphere ESXi 6.5 from VMWare’s
official website.
You then need to burn that downloaded ISO image to the respective CD/DVD or bootable pen drive.
Insert the concerned bootable device to the server/host machine.
Start the booting process. Below shown figure is the very first screen that is seen on the machine after the
booting process is started.
Once the machine is booted with the ESXi 6.5 installation media, drivers start getting loaded like in any
other operating system.
Press enter to start the ESXi installation process.
Again, press enter to continue the installation process.
