The Assessment Process
Why are assessment tasks important?
To complete your qualification, you are required to apply the ideas you have been learning from this
unit of competence.
The assessment activities are an important part of your training program as they provide an
opportunity to apply what you have been learning and they give both you and your trainer feedback
on your progress.
How will you be assessed?
You will be required to complete a variety of written and practical exercises. Instructions for how to
complete the assessments are provided within each assessment task in this booklet.
What is required for successful completion?
Please read this section carefully before commencing the assessment tasks. You must carefully
complete EVERY task in this booklet. You must achieve a ‘Satisfactory’ mark for all assessment tasks
to be deemed Competent for the unit. If you are assessed as Not Competent, you will be given some
suggestions for improvement and asked to redo your assessment.
At the successful completion of the assessment tasks, you will have demonstrated your competence
against all of the requirements of the unit.
Submission of assessments
Your trainer will advise you when to commence the assessments in this booklet.
You are required to complete the written assessments on a separate document. You have access to
computers which are equipped with 2010 Microsoft suite of products. You will also have access to
the internet at the College to assist with research and resources. Assessment responses should be
typed; however, handwritten submissions will be accepted if they are clear and legible.
On the document please include:

o The date
o The Assessment Number and Task Number.

Access and equity

evidence that you have completed this Task.
Part a
Identify the main sections of the web page layout.
Web page layout
On the created web page the layout contains different sections that include Home, Student
Zone, Academics, Admissions, Contact us and About us. All these sections are integrated
together to form this web page and are considered as the main section of the web page. For all
the components there are different codes which are tested and verified properly and every page
is different from another with different functionality. For the home page, the web page is linked

Part a
Validate the cascading style sheet (CSS) against industry standards and explain the process
you followed below:
While writing the code for CSS at the initial stage, the possibility of making errors can
be high so it is important to validate the rules and check that they should not be
against the industry standards. For validating the CSS code appropriately W3C’s is a
tool which is highly recommended in order to provide the accurate validation for the
code. There are various other methods through which the validation can be done
these are the URL of the pages or by uploading the content from the computer or by
inserting the code of CSS. All these tools need to be used in order to perform valid
validation and cross-checking of the Cascading style sheet code according to the
standards of the industry that need to be followed with proper scrutiny and very
precisely.
Part b
Correct browser incompatibilities, using the most robust techniques and record the
techniques you used below:
There are various techniques which are used in order to check the correct browser
incompatibilities from which two most robust are discussed here. The dom-based
technique is one technique which is used and is platform independent technique
which interacts with the objects in the documents of HTML, XML and other such
languages. Whenever any web page is rendered in the browser then it will first
download the objects of the HTML in the local memory and it will by default parse the
display page in to screen. And another technique is an image-based technique which
takes input screenshots of the provided web page on the browser’s baseline and then
compares these screenshots with other platforms which give the appropriate results.
In this technique, the segmentation and the comparison are totally dependent on the
image and on its basis and this particular technique is based on the browser as only
the provided screenshots are captured on the specific browser.
