IMMIGRATION
Globalization and urbanization has made life too simple to live. Due to all such
people can easily travel from one country to another country. Living in the 21st century is all
about living with standard and high quality life style. Every year, thousands of immigrants
travel from around different countries and settle in United States for this purpose. With
different motives and motivations, they enter U.S. to get better jobs, lifestyle, education, or it
may be they are refugees, escaping from wars, natural calamities and persecution in their
native countries. Some of them come through legal ways and some travel illegally. Since
1970, there were around 68 million people who have encountered U.S. as immigrants and
around 130 million more are estimated to come over coming next 50 years (Hollifield, Martin
and Orrenius, 2014).
Rationale for selection
The major reason for choosing this topic is that i am an immigrant and i like this topic.I want
to learn more about this immigrant topic because i am inspired after seminar discussion.I
wanted to know about the immigration and its impact on the economic system of the UK.
Background information
Immigration is an activity while government employees examine the passports, visas,
foreign nationals entering the country. In other word it can be said that the movement of non
native people into a country in order to settle here. It arises diversity into the nation and
people can learn many language from immigrates.
Structure
 Economy- Immigrants can be possible positive to the country and native people by the
following aspects. David Masci, writer of “Debate on Immigration” where he describes
that immigrants need to be more entrepreneurial skills which are necessary and also risk
factors in order to start their own new businesses. Those immigrants who are great

entrepreneurs or established their business are also offering new job opportunities to the
people living there. This has greatly contributed to the economy of United States and
lead it one of the highly developed country.
 Control Frontiers- The major advantage of immigration is that it aid in control the
frontiers that is political and geographical area near or beyond a boundary.
 Employment- Some immigrants travel to the developed counties in order to achieve
greater life style and high quality living. This come to country in terms of profit motive
and establish there. For this purpose, they must get green cards or employment based
immigration or Non-immigrant Visas. At some point it can be that person is settled in
U.S. of the family may also shift there for living. Family based visa can be required
here.Students due to higher education and research purpose need to travel to such
countries. They may settle in that country in order to get innovate new technology and
new invention. For this they need to apply for the student visa.
Cultural diversity- Demographically cultural diversity being so young and enriched
makes great advantages as they tend to increase the aspects of getting to enhance the
productivity and influence to the world.Impact can be due to economically, political and
cultural society. Immigrant favors the presidential elections. They count on those people who
may give rights in country. They support great contribution on the contribution of countries
economy.

In the UK immigrants affect the quality of life of the local citizen because their life style,
freedom, peace, benefits, natural resources and protection can largely affect due to the
same.It will more beneficial for the migrants because they can able to improve their life style
and quality by get more employment, education, opportunity to learn some thing new from
the country, source of income etc.
Counter argument
Mostly people travel to the developed countries like U.S. and U.K. in order to get better life
style. Freedom, peace, benefits, protection and fulfillment of basic needs are important
requirement of the immigrants. However, this is affecting the natives of U.S. as they are
generally affected due to increase in the number of immigrants.There are positive and
negative critics with respect to the impacts of the immigration. positive in the sense that can

be increase in GDP, technology, economic rates.The population of the country can also
increase because new people comes and live in the country.
Refutation
They may lack in social, economic as well have less money than those who are already
established there. Immigrants bring new innovative ideas and technologies in spirit of the
country. An illustration of such is Java computer language, which created jobs and
employment to millions of Americans. Also the starter of Hotmail was a beginner and an
Indian having $200 in his pocket. Now it is the multibillionaire company (Levin and et.al.,
2017). Silicon Valley and other such high tech sectors are filled with such skilled, talented
and educated immigrants. Also they create great advantages to many companies. Many
factors are their which make them to work hard and at the low wages. Food Court in any
many malls in south Florida; Hispanic and Caribbean are the most of the workers who works
like cleaning the Malls at low wages as there English is not up to mark. Many industries and
other companies are availing this advantages and are offering them jobs at low wages. To
some extent it reduces the labour cost. As for immigrants they are new to the countries so
they need to fulfil their basic needs so this makes the employee resistance in the company and
this will not lead the people to leave the job as they have limited options. Sometimes
government need to pay finances to the immigration to fulfil their basic needs. But it doesn’t
drain the government finances (Keyes, 2014). According to the NAS report immigrants pays
more than they avail in their complete lifetime. Around $80,000 taxes would be paid by an
immigrant. Fiscal return of nearly $2-billion amount is collected from the college degrees of
immigrants. Banks as well as government as mostly benefitted by such aspects and promote
more of this type of investment. For starting any business and other benefits like insurances
and loans taken by the immigrants also help the country growth. It also contributes to the
living standard of the country and different other related aspects. More the people will earn
more they would spend on purchasing things. This will increase in the tax collection from the
immigrants. So it can be said that with help of immigration, UK can able to improve its

economy and national income of the country.
For illustration Cubans operates companies based on construction. The net gain of around $8
trillion per year is the contribution of the immigrants to the country. Taking about the
economy there is great contribution of the person coming to the country. If the person is high
skilled then through his talent and efforts, person will surely improve the country economy.
But if the person coming to the country is unskilled then it will affect the country economy
and government have to invest some amount so that person could live his livelihoods. The
political aspect of the immigrants is depended on the people perception. Many people travel
to United States to study engineering and computers in order to complete their graduation and
higher studies in the research works. Some students may get problem due to limited English
skills had slight negative effects on peers.
Argument- There are positive and negative critics with respect to the impacts of the
immigration. positive in the sense that can be increase in GDP, technology, economic rates.
But negative impact is more as compared to the positive impact because there is over
population, trafficking of drugs and illegal material and culture treat to the America. There
can be issues like terrorist attack , shortage of houses and building more road in the
country.Due to increase the number of migrant in the country, there has arisen the issue
regarding shortage of house and government has required to develop more road and houses.

Safe country- Safe country is that country which have low probability of attack and
terrorism.The “first country of asylum” concept is not referred to as such in German law. However,
as of 6 August 2016, Section 27 of the Asylum Act refers to cases where a person was already safe
from persecution in “another third country”
Counter argument and evidence- In the UK country, while numbers of asylum increased then
it directly affect to the country economic system.Asylum seekers are not allowed to take up
any paid employment and are excluded from the social welfare system and excluded from
consideration for social housing. Thus, they have almost no personal income, no control over
their food and general living conditions and are, in effect, excluded from participation in
normal society. In most cases, an asylum seeker who rejects the option of DP
accommodation is unlikely to get any other State support. The asylum seeker whose
complaint I investigated was a very exceptional case in that she was found to be entitled to a
social welfare payment.

While numbers of asylum increased then it directly affect to the country economic system.

The immigrant who comes from the another country in the UK have right to get education
and employment.Immigrants need the Visa and permission of government to enter into the
US and other countries.
Counter argument-The labor or worker who comes from the another country have important
position in the community law and social benefits.With help of these labor, country can able
to increase its national incomes and economic condition In the construction and civil
businesses, they can have opportunity to carried out their activities of business in the lowest
wages.

 Some of the immigrants need to move to these countries as their native may be

requirement. They can be the non-immigrants as after the crises are over they may
need to move to their own countries (Rodríguez and Hagan, 2016).
 Last ones are those who travel to these countries in illegal ways for the purpose of illegal business
and trafficking.

Due to the increase the numbers of immigrant in the US , there has also increased the racial
and ethical issues. About 10% of U.S. residents are from the other countries. There can be
negative impact of the immigration as there may be clashes due to the increased in the ethical
and racial conflicts as there are more than 200 cultures in America (Aranda, E., Menjívar and
Donato, 2014). More than 100 languages are spoken which creates the problem to both the
natives and immigrants in order to understand and converse with them. The overpopulation
has lead the country to utilize more resource. This lead to impact on the environment and
construction of more payments. If the country continued to follow this movement of the
people, then the criminals and terrorist activities may rise. Around 11 million immigrants are
coming to the country in the illegal ways. This can lead to illegal trafficking of drugs and
other similar activities. Immigrants due to survival they agree to work on the low wages
which are not beneficial to the country as the natives will not get the job. This will lead to
higher unemployment. United States have to reduce 255,000 immigrations per year in order
to stabilized this growth in the population. Immigration can financially affect the country
through rehabilitation programs. This programs of government are made for the illegal
migrants. There can also problem related to the health issues. Immigrants sometimes may
bring certain type of viruses, bacteria’s or other diseases from their country. Due to

advancement of technology some diseases can be cured but same can affect dangourisly.
After proper screening they must be allowed to reside in the country.
Refutation & argument
In the country, there are various kinds of discrimination done with immigrants people
regarding their employment, education, etc.Government should make new rules and
regulation in order to maintain the immigrant’s activities. They need to allow those persons
only to the country who is eligible to the country and will maintain the country aspect in all
respected ways. Also illegal activities of the immigrants should be controlled as this may
affect the life of others and can affect the country in different ways (Johnson, 2014). To those
who are coming as the immigrants there are cases like bullying and harassing due to
discrimination factor. Such cases need to be stopped and strict action needs to be taken
against then. Americans should give all the rights to the immigrants and same immigrants
should respect the American culture and tradition. There is an important factor the GDP,
which tends to rise due to investment of the immigrants in the country but it also creates little
problem as this GDP is raised due to the rich businessmen and entrepreneurs to such extent
but the individual rise is not that much. It affects the country economical aspect of being
developed. This may be due to the low salary paid to the workers or employee like refugees
escaping from wars and natural calamities.
CONCLUSION
From this above project report it has been concluded that Immigration have really
contributed to the little success of the country. Country have really the helpful policy towards
immigrants. But as it is said to much of anything is injurious to the country. So the country
should allow certain amount of the immigrants to the country so it does not affect the actual
natives of the country. Controlled immigrants can really contribute to the country and
country’s economy. Immigration have really contributed and is beneficial for the upliftment
of the many poor people (Buchanan and Hilburn, 2016). Also there is diversified cultural
increment in the country. This also increased job sectors for many people. But it may give
rise to the unemployment and loss of the resources in the country. Through there are strict

rules and regulation in the country the illegal approach of the immigrants should be stopped
and strict action against then should be taken. Final decision is taken by the government
whether they approve to allow the immigration to same aspect or they minimize it.
Immigration should be beneficial to the person leaving the native country and the local
people.
Oversee economy, observe discrimination and keep a minimum standard of civilised
society.
 Recommendation for future research into area
Government can reduce the illegal and unfair activities of immigration by develop effective
policies, practices and legislation. Country should adopt strict rules and regulation so as
immigration negative impact can decrease from the country.
