IMMIGRATION LAWS
Immigration Laws: Conclusion
Agriprofit should not consider acquiring the meat packing plant. This is because Jan
Brewer, the Arizona governor signed into law the Arizona Senate Bill 1070, a piece of
legislation that has been described as the strictest and broadest immigration measure of this
generation. To add to this, the federal government has been unable to solve the illegal
immigration problem which has become rampant. There is also the case of Arizona vs. US
Supreme Court’s decision that has limited a state to pass legislations on immigrations inside
its own borders (Ewing, Martinez, & Rumbaut, 2015).
Recommendations
Given that the company would require a lot of unskilled labor mostly provided by the
illegal immigrants, it is bound to be exposed to conflicts with the law. Although Agriprofit
has no intention of hiring undocumented aliens and minors, there are instances where they
must look the other way just to employ due to production demands. The state of Arizona has
so many restrictions imposed on the employer making it difficult to do the business. Just like
Agriprocessors, Agriprofit will have to contend with so much scrutiny on its employment
terms (Amuedo-Dorantes, & Lozano, 2019). Agriprocessors received 12 letters in one year
showing that the social security numbers it was using did not match with the information with
the federal agency. 78% of information did not match. This is the same problem that
Agriprofit will face if the strict Immigration laws in the state of Arizona are not amended.
This shows that there are so many run-ins with the authority that would otherwise affect
production if the immigration laws are this strict. Therefore, Agriprofit should not consider
acquiring the meat packing plant.
