PART 1
Introduction
People travel from one place to others for different purposes. These people are called
immigrants. They have to face many issues in other boundaries. Present study will evaluate that
boundaries can never be neutral. The study will be based on three parts where firstly, it will
explain that boundaries can never be neutral. Furthermore, immigration policies and its impact
on population will be described . Part 2 will summarize the entire report and part 3 will give self-
reflection.
Main body
Every government has responsibility to protect the rights of people and improve their
livelihood. Each country has its own immigration policies and treat people accordingly. Many of
the people come to UK from different locations due to working or educational purposes. They
have to follow immigration law in order to live in the nation with safety. Each geographical area
has its own symbolic and permeable visibility (Schuck, 2018). Each nation has its own values
and beliefs. In such condition, when the person comes from one location to other then it becomes
essential for the government to check his/her documents and visas carefully in order to minimize
terrorism activities.
There are many reasons of migration such as seeking asylum, economic issues or reunited
with families (Martinez and et.al., 2015). Over a period of time, United Kingdom has grown well
and now, it has become the developed country. It provides job opportunities to the mass people.
Persons come to this location from various countries. Government of UK has made many
regulation to prevent people from crises,. law of immigration regulation 2006 has been
implemented that describes rights of free movement of European economic areas. People are
allowed to travel from one country to others freely.
This regulation is based on Directive 2004/38/EC (Prato, 2016). This is the regulation
which ensures that EEA citizens (European economic areas) can easily come to UK with their
families in order to live in the nation without explicit permission from government or concerned
authorities. But this law is different for the Swiss citizens. They are covered under bilateral
engagement and they have been treated according to this agreement. In this, Swiss people are

allowed coming to UK but to bring their family in nation, they have to take special entry
clearance from concerned department (Ybarra, Sanchez and Sanchez, 2016).
Due to increasing immigration offences, government has to implement strict laws and
have to implement these regulations in a strict manner. Coalition government has now made
changes in its annual limit and now, limited number of immigrants are allowed to come to the
UK from outside of European Union countries. Migrants can come to this place due to work,
education, visitors, refugees and asylum seekers (Chen, 2016). Government of nation has made
different laws and policies in respect to immigration. Asylum seekers have to prove themselves
why they have come to the UK and economic issues that they are facing in their own countries.
If citizens for European Union member states have come to the nation for education purpose then
immigration law is not entitled to have control over the person (Freilich and Addad, 2017).
Calais is a geographical location where migrants live and they wait to get an opportunity
through which they can get entrance in the United Kingdom. If the person belonging to outside
of European Union member states travel with unverified documents then individuals may have to
bear fines. Dublin regulation (111) has been introduced by the government which ensures that
EU member states are required to examine status of asylum seekers those who need international
protection (Beine and et.al, 2016). It has established a fingerprinting database system and each
unauthorized person has to go through from this checking. Asylum seekers are required to
provide protection to these people who are transferring to the international country.
One of the major aims of implementing this regulation is to prevent applicants from
submitting application in many countries. It ensures that asylum seeker returns to the member
states where they have claimed first. They do not apply application for the protection in multiple
countries. This shows that each boundary has its own values and works according to their own
regulation. They can never be neutral. All member states treat people differently on the basis of
their origin and reason of migration (Mayda, Peri and Steingress, 2016). If the person is coming
to the European country for educational purpose from other geographical locations then
government will follow different norms and on the other hand, if it is asylum seeker then norms
will be changed. These regulations are not neutral as well as are based on their originality and
resources they have (The Impact of Immigration on American Workers, 2003).
There are many people who have come to the UK due to working purposes. But most of
the people those who belong outside of European members state do not get equal salaries they

receive lower wages. If the person is the resident of inside European member state then
individual need no visa for travelling in other nation but if individual belongs from outside then
they have to face strict laws and regulations while entering into other boundaries (Harris, 1995).
If individual is from Brazil or Jamaica then person is required to apply these norms and they
need visas before entering into the European members state. Migrant people get permission to
work for limited hours if they come to the UK for study. Furthermore, asylum seekers or
refugees do not get permission to work in the nation and they are restricted to get limited
benefits. They have to submit all their travel documents and have to show their intention to come
to the location strictly. There are many skilled people who come to United Kingdom to make
their future. They are highly skilled and have ability to grow well. They have right to apply for
the citizenship and family reunification (Hayter, 2004).
Each Border has its own symbolic importance, if the person is crossing one border and
entering in the new location then they have to follow a new legislation. Records show that in the
year 2009, 780000 people have entered in European border due to working purpose whereas
there were only 18000 Irish based people who have come to this country for working. 5200
students get permission to cross borders between Ireland and Northern Ireland every day.
Schengen agreement explains that citizens of EU member states have full rights to come to the
country without taking permission. They can claim benefits after completing a particular time.
They can stay in the nation with Visas as well (The Impact of Immigration on American
Workers, 2003).
Conclusion
From the above study, it can be concluded that borders can never be neutral. Each person
has to get different experience when they enter into the new geographical location. They have to
get different treatments from their original country.
PART 2
Every year, many policies have been made by the government. Immigration policies put
their impact on the lives of people to a great extent who come to the European country for
different purposes. Each border has its own political power and thus, they are not uniformly
policed. Each individual who belongs from different country get different experience where
some get easy travelling facilities whereas, others who belong from outside of European state has

to go through from strict laws in order to get visa and resident permission in the nation (Freilich
and Addad, 2017). Each border has its own speciality and thus, they can never be neutral.
Immigration policies have been created in a manner so that no unfair practices and
discrimination will take place among different sections of population.
PART 3
While working on this project, I have learned many things about cross border polices,
immigration laws, etc. I got to know about reason of immigration. This study has developed my
understanding about the most important factor. I have improved my research skill to a great
extent. I have analysed that my presentation skill is good and I can coordinate with others well.
This has helped me in completing this research effectively. But I require working on my
presentation skill and written communication little. This will help me in gaining success in my
career. If I improve my presentation and written communication skill then I would be able to
work as independent learners and by reading earlier literatures, I would be able to develop my
understanding level significantly.
