INTRODUCTION
Criminology is understanding as the scientific study of nature, extent, causes, management,
consequences, control and prevention of criminal behaviour at both individual and social level.
This also includes the study of law responses in accordance to the different nature of crimes.
Criminal justice is referring as providence of justice to those who have committed crimes. This
system includes series of government agencies and institutions (Eagly, 2016). The primary
institutions related to criminal justice system includes police, prosecution, defence lawyers,
courts and prisons.
The current essay includes the study about the profession of immigration officer in Home
office (Government). Also, covers about key finding and main points related to the profession of
immigration officer.
MAIN BODY
Immigration is referring as the activity that includes international movement of people to the
destination country of which they are not local residents or where they do not have citizenship in
order to settle as permanent citizens. All the nations build the separate institution that regulates
the activities of foreign visitors. They have the duty regarding adherence of government
regulations and implementation of legislations for carrying their routine operative functions.
An immigration officer has the duty related to enforcement of government law related to the
aspect of immigration. The different rules which were covered under this includes visa
applications, foreign nationals or those who seeking asylum on border, identification of those
who breached the border line & their removal, pursuing of those who breach immigration and
criminal laws (Immigration officer, 2020). Immigration officer have duty related to make
decisions that people have right to visit or stay in UK or not. There are many other
responsibilities which are performing by immigration officer while working for the safety of
nation from the illegal immigrants and criminal offences. All these are describing below in
detail:
An immigration officer has the responsibility to check the landing cards of non-British and non-
European passengers. They have the duty during this process that ascertain the reason of their
visiting in nation along with time period of their stay. In case, when passenger meets the criterion
of entry than immigration officer having the role of checking and endorsing passport along with

other work related documents (Murray, 2017). In case, when person is unable to pass the entry
qualification of a nation than immigration officer has the right to made enquiry and take different
actions through performance of duties like Interviewing of passenger for more information,
arranging of option for sending back the person to the point of its departure and organising of
place in holding area. On the other hand, some of the special duties which are performing by
immigration officer at the time of need includes organising of surveillance, carrying intelligence
based activities and visiting along with interviewing the person who has no right to stay in UK.
To become immigration officer within UK there is certain criterion which is needed to fulfil
includes;
 Over to the age of 18
 British citizen
 Pass all security clearance check
 Pass all medical checks
 Lived in the UK for five years before applying
Also, to become an immigrant officer different number of skills and appropriate knowledge is

Reflective section
Initially working over this project was difficult. Afterwards, we took the help of professors
and other group colleagues to understand the approach that has to be best to follow for carrying
research over particular profession. This step goes positive for us as aid in determination of the
different information upon the profession of immigration officer with UK. Here, we able to grab
the various information’s regarding their roles, responsibilities and duties. The performance of
this project has direct positive impact over development of our learning, communication and
coordination skills because we able to create the strong bond that direct towards successful
research of information upon topic. The limitation of time impacts negatively on completion of
project in speedy manner but this was managed by the team through the use of digital mediums.
Here, we all understood from the gathered information that profession of immigration officer is
important for the safety of nation.
There are lots of work that they have to perform for the restriction of criminal activities at
vey initial stage. We clearly understand that power of immigration officer along with position
never the less from the primary institutions of a nation. In overall nature the working with each is
good experience where we able to build more strong bond in each other. There are many new
skills we learnt from each other related to patience, panic control, coordination, trust,
supportiveness, integrity, honesty etc. Now, we all have the future aspiration of becoming an
immigration officer through ascertainment of the important skills and knowledge such as
customer service skills, attention skills for thorough analysis, ability to work with other and
excellent written communication skills. In this regard, the learning of 2nd and 3rd is important for
attaining above mentioned skills along with proficiency for the achievement of a profession like
immigration officer.
