1) INTRODUCTION
Ageing population is said to be as a term which is used for describing a sudden shift in
the age distribution. This is basically, denoted for people who are over the age of 60 and above.
Ageing population is a serious issue for most of the countries and government are required to
take care of the same for avoiding problems that can hamper different activities (Dall and et. al.,
2013). This research is based on the understand of aged people and its impact furthermore the
same will be supported by literature review and on the basis of this a valid conclusion will be
evaluated. The review will cover the ageing population concept and issues which caused the
ageing population. This part will help in provide the better and relevant information regarding
specific subject area.
Aim
The aim of this research is “To determine impact of an ageing population on healthcare
provision in the United Kingdom.”
Objectives

Under this, main problem is related with the ageing population. It is an enhancing median
age in population of region because of reducing fertility rates or rise in expectancy. The
population aged more than 60 or over is growing more faster as comparison to the younger ages
and it is a main issue .
2) LITERATURE REVIEW
To understand concept of ageing population
According to the article published by economic online, world's population is ageing with
the rate of 10 percent by the year 2050 the same will be rise to over 20 percent. On the basis of
opinion of L.A. Frolik (2019), it has been stated that Ageing population has to linked with many
socio and economic factors and health consequences such as dependency ratio, expenditures of

medical bills etc., but the current challenge which is being faced by any country is public health
because it has increased burden on a particular nation regarding health care cost and national
budgets. Rise in ageing population is due to two reasons i.e. increase in longevity in this average
age of population is higher and decline in fertility rate when there is a decrease in fertility
transitions.
Therefore, population of ageing is one of the significant factor in relation with social
transformation and it has to be looked after for making life of aged people secure. With the
change in course of time, ratio of people will increase from around 137 million in 2017 to 425
million by 2050. Some of the nations like United Kingdom, United States of America has
worked on this issue and according to the requirements they have some changes in their
healthcare provision in order to provided better health care services and facilities.
To identify potential issues that are caused due to ageing population
Aged people are considered as an important part of a family as they become one of the
reason for holding members of family together for longer period of time. But in terms of nation,
aged people is one of the issue that can cause problem. In some of the countries like North
America, Western Europe and Japan rate of aged people is growing at a rapid speed. As a result,
policy maker has to determined interrelated issues for formulating effective policies. Some of the
issues that are caused because of this are mentioned below:
Increase in dependency ratio: On the basis of opinion of Pettinger (2016), Countries
who are having small sections of workers have to depends upon limited number of population for
collecting taxes so as to pay higher health care expenses, pension benefits etc., this some what
puts pressure on regulatory bodies for managing cost of higher health related facilities.
Change to the economy: In an economy of a nation senior citizen have a great
contribution because they have a prime role as because with the increase in number of aged
person demands in health care will also raise.
To analyse influence of ageing population on health care provision in UK
Population of ageing is related to demographical transitions and according to NHS five
year plan (2014), they are analysing what are future health and social care consequences that are
be looked after so that delivery of the same can be more effective in nature. As per opinion of
Anyssa Garza (2018), it has been stated that In some of their health care provision they have
includes some of the diseases that are severe such as cancer and cardiac problems, dementia,

reduction in waiting time, providing services so that level of patient satisfaction can be fulfilled
etc.
Along with this, health care organisation are changing front-line and health care
practitioners by training them in latest tools and technologies, smart devices and many more.
Therefore, by considering all these factors health care provision can enable them in providing
better services and facilities to its patients and aged people.
3) METHODOLOGY
Methodology refers to theoretical as well as systematic analysis of methods which are
applied to field of study. It is system of the principles and methods for conducting an
investigation. It is system of wider rules of principles from which the particular procedure may
be derived in order to interpret various issues with in scope of specific discipline (Kulik and et.
al., 2014).
Type of Investigation
Research methods can be explained as scientific and systematic process of data
collection, analysis, implication and compilation to any business related problem. There are two
different kinds of research methods i.e. Qualitative and Quantitative.
Quantitative methods- This investigation is based on the numbers and numeric figures.
Its main aim is to measure quantity and compare with the past records and also tries to project
for the future. On the other hand, quantitative research is systematic research of quantitative
phenomena and properties (Lin and Bhattacharyya, 2012). It is structures way of gathering data
or information and analysing it for draw valid conclusion. In order to gather and analyse data,
researcher use statistical and computational method.
Qualitative method- It is a process that provides an in- depth understanding about
problems in natural settings. This method provides the theoretical information about specific
research area. It is dependent on experience of investigators and questions which are used to
probe sample.
These both research methods are used through researcher by including theoretical
information as well as statistical data in an effective manner.
Data collection
It refers to procedure of collecting as well as analysing information on interest variable in
an appropriate manner. A better data collection method is helpful in collecting relevant and

accurate information about specific research area. There are two different kinds of data collection
methods like primary and secondary (Stevens and Rudd, 2013).
Primary method- It refers to data that gather for very first time. It has not been yet
collected wither through this or researcher before. In addition to this, primary data will give
researcher with first- hand information about respondents. In order to collect information in
primary methods, researcher uses different source such as survey, questionnaire, interview,
observation etc.
Secondary method- It is a kind of data that has already been published in newspapers,
online portals, book, journals and many others. It is a time saving as well as cost saving method
and researcher can easily collect data from this method.
Research Approach
It refers to plan and process that includes some steps of wider assumptions to detailed
method of the data collection, analyse and also interpretation (Savva and et. al., 2013). It is based
on the nature of research issues that is being addressed. There are two types of research
approaches:
Inductive research- This research approach is start with theories and observations which
are proposed towards end of research process as observation results. It is related with qualitative
research and provide relevant information.
Deductive research- This research approach is related with quantitative method and its
main focus on exploring new phenomena from various perspective (May, 2012).
Under this research, investigator uses inductive research approach because it is based on
qualitative method.
4) DISCUSSIONS ON DATA
In this present time period, ageing population has been recognize as emerging challenge
in United Kingdom. Ageing population is enhancing in population because of the declining rate
of fertility as well as rising the life expectancy. Population of United Kingdom is projected to be
continue developing. UK population is getting older with 2.4% aged 85 and 18% aged 65.
One of the reason to enhance in median age is that the people are live longer,
improvement in nutrition as well as reduction in injuries and disease. Increase in dependency
ratio and Change to the economy are the main issues which cause because of the ageing

population. The main focus on Health care sector in United Kingdom is to take some essential
measures for prevent the ageing population.

6) REFLECTIONS ON YOUR OWN LEARNING DURING RESEARCH
This research taken in to consideration impact of an ageing population on healthcare
provision in the United Kingdom. Investigation is conducted for detailed analysis and enhancing
knowledge. My main reason behind selecting this to know about the ageing population and it is a
big issues in United Kingdom. In order to conduct this investigation, I used qualitative and
quantitative research method because it provides detailed information about specific research
topic and on theoretical basis. On the other hand, secondary data has been used by me for
gathering information about ageing population and its influence on the health care provision in
United Kingdom. Under this, data is collected from different sources for an instance books,
journals, articles etc. On the other hand, primary method is used in finding sections to know
about opinions of people about ageing population.
Through conducting this research my skills and knowledge about the ageing population
topic is enhanced. With the help of performing investigation, I know about the main issues from
which ageing population enhancing in United Kingdom. With the help of this research, I analyse

factors which are necessary in control the ageing population. On the other hand, during
investigation, I faced issues related to time and cost. I had not enough time and proper money to
perform all research related activities in an appropriate and proper manner. In future, I will take
care of this and also try to complete investigation with in given period of time for getting
positive outcomes.
This research will help in future for conducting the investigation in a proper manner. At
the time of conducting an investigation, I learned about the ageing population and the causes
behind it. It is helpful for me in enhancing my knowledge area. Under this, there are three
different key point which require to me to work on and these are skills, knowledge and conduct
investigation in future. This investigation helps me in enhance my skills as well as core
competencies to perform all research activities in significant manner. On the other hand,
knowledge area is also enhanced in conducting investigation. This research will help me in
conduct investigation in future by considering all the main points.
