INTRODUCTION
Human resource managers are backbone to the enterprise and they play crucial role in
order to organise the systematic functioning in enterprise (Bryson and Forth, 2018). They work
as to plan, direct, coordinate the overall function within enterprise. The manager plays critical
role in order to conduct the systematic function within the enterprise. They are responsible for
things such as hiring, recruiting, managing and supervising the candidates so that all things can
be conducted in better and effective manner. The HR is the person who is also responsible for
performance appraisal. The present report is based on business activities of Tesco PLC, it is UK
based enterprise and performing its activities in retail sector.
Background of study-
The present assignment is based on business activities of Tesco and this is relating with
impact of performance of appraisals system on job satisfaction and motivation on employees.
Thus, better working will help to conduct business operation in well and organised manner
(What Does a Human Resources Manager do?, 2018). In this, it can be said that the performance
appraisal system will be used by employees so that need of employees can get fulfilled.
Furthermore, role of HR is to manage, create and implement the business activities
effectively so that each thing can be managed with better functioning. Hence, performance
appraisal is one of crucial management tool that will assists to serve all function with multiple
purpose in retail industry.
Aim-
To access the impact of performance appraisal and motivation within retail sector. A
study on Tesco.
Objectives
1. To determine the concept of human resource managers.
2. To explore the impact of performance appraisal system on performance of employees.
3. To identity positive affect of performance appraisal on growth of business enterprise.
4. To suggest the measures with help of which performance of employees can be
improvised.

Rational of project
The present is based on business activities of Tesco, it is retail sector and provides
effective services to the customers. In this, the assignment is based on identifying the impact of
performance appraisal system on employee’s satisfaction. The human resource in the enterprise
works as to plan, direct and coordinate the function of the enterprise effectively. The researcher
will work as to gather the depth insights about the impact of performance appraisal on
satisfaction of the employees.
Literature review
This is effective way in terms to get the depth investigation about the topic of research
with the different perspective of authors. It will be defined in below presented manner as are-
According to the view of Bryson and Forth, (2018) states that performance appraisals are
one of the essential tool in any firm and they perform their business activities in the retail sector
effectively. With help of it, this will be easier to boost morale of employees and it also helps to
enhance productivity of enterprise. In this term, regular detailed performance appraisal will help
the firm to attract and retain qualified staff and to be competitive in market. According to view of
Dauda, (2018) states that employees in retail sector can have both kind of influence that is direct
and indirect on sales. Thus, customer loyalty is one of essential tool that is based on job
description and performance assessment within the enterprise.
In contrary to Dauda, (2018) states that performance appraisals system will be used for
all employees so tat overall sales of the entity can be enhanced. The motivation to employees and
job satisfaction both this are crucial term and they are responsible for attainment of
organisational goals. As per the view of Du and et.al., (2017) states that by giving monetary
increment and incentive it is possible to improvized he performance of the enterprise. According
to the view of states that it is very important to facilitate effective work environment,
improved human relations and fair wages so that employee will perform their role towards the
attainment of long term objectives.

In contrary to Gu and Nolan, (2017) motivation is the term that uses by human resource manager
and by other high authorities in terms to encourage the employees of the enterprise so that they
can able to conduct their beguines activities in well effective mode. Hence, performance
appraisal and motivation both plays crucial role in terms to bring long term productivity and
profitability.
Research methodologies
It is crucial with regard to gather the in depth information about the topic of research.
Under it, number of methods are given there and it will be helpful in terms to provide depth
information. Thus, it has been defined in below context manner as are-
Research philosophy- This is relating with the belief with help of which data can be
gathered, analysed and used. Thus, this are of many types as pragmatism, positivism,
realism and interpretivism. With help of it, interpretative technique need to be adopted so
that there can be identification of interpretation of the study. Thus, research will have the
use of Interpretative technique.
Research approach- It relates with plan and procedure and it is consisting of broad
generalisation and detailed collection about the data (Madison and et.al., 2018). In this,
there are two kind of approaches as are inductive and deductive. In addition to this, the
researcher will have the use of deductive approach so that better conclusion can be
drawn.
Research design- This is term that is relates with arrangement of collections and
conditions. This is method that is chosen by researcher in order to identify differ
components of study. Thus, research design is of many types as survey, correlation,
descriptive, semi experimental, measurement and analysis etc.
Sampling- This is the function that is related with two kind of sampling method as
probabilistic and non-probabilistic. Under this, the researcher will have the use of
descriptive so that depth information about the impact of performance appraisal on
performance of enterprise must be conducted (Schuh and et.al., 2018).
Data collection- It is systematic process that works as to gather and collect the
information on the variables of interest. With help of it, information can be gathered from
variety of sources such as primary and secondary. In this, primary method will be used in
order to collect the first hand information by use of sample random technique.

quantitative. Thus, researcher will have the use of qualitative analysis so that depth
