AI Summary
This report reflects on how an individual's behavior and personality, specifically an ISTJ (Introvert, Sensing, Thinking, Judging) type, impacts their approach to management. It highlights both positive aspects, such as honesty, strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and a strong sense of duty, which foster trust and effective feedback. Conversely, it addresses negative impacts like inflexibility, a lack of empathy due to a judgmental nature, and difficulty initiating change, potentially leading to biased feedback and strained employee relations. The report concludes that while the positive aspects outweigh the negative, improvements in empathy and flexibility are crucial for a more balanced and effective management approach. The report also references academic articles to support the points being made.

BEHAVIOR AND PERSONALITY 3
Introduction
People have different personalities and that also means people have different behaviors.
Behavior refers to response an individual towards a certain stimuli or actions made by an
individual due to inputs from the environment. Personality on the other hand refers differences in
characteristics in the way people think, behave and feel. Major personalities are introversion,
neuroticism, openness, extraversion and agreeableness (Settles, et al.2012, p.160). The behavior
of individuals affect the approach people have towards management. The impact can be positive
or even negative. There are behaviors of good managers which have been documented by
various scholars. The behaviors of individuals should align with the behaviors of good managers
so as to have the best approach towards management. This reflective report is written to highlight
how behavior has impact on approach to management.
I have taken a lot of surveys to determine my behaviors and I have come to conclusion that my
behaviors are Introvert, Sensing, Thinking and Judging (ISTJ) depending on the situation I find
myself in. These behaviors impact my approach to management.
Positive impacts
People with ISTJ behavior are likeable. Though at first my behavior is not liked in the
organization, with time employees appreciate my behavior as I am honest and straight –forward.
When working with different personalities especially those low on openness personality, I am
able to communicate to the employees on what is needed to be done in order to achieve the set
targets (Muscanell, and Guadagno, 2012, p.110). This enables the organization to perform well
as effective feedback is given without sugar coating. The feedback helps in correcting deviations
and this enable the organization to stick to the set plans.

The thinking behaviors enables me to think strategically and have great problem solving skills.
The behavior enables me take analyze situations critically and come up with the best
management approach that will help to solve the problem at hand (Horwood, and Maw, 2012,
p.4). These behavior enables me to work well with people with different personalities especially
neuroticism because of my abilities to solve problems. The behavior enables me to be able to
communicate effectively and give feedback that will help the employee improve. This helps in
improving employee productivity.
My behavior especially sensing enables me to have a sense of duty. The behavior enables me to
help others improve their performance in the organization. This trait helps me to take the right
approach of management that involves working with people of different personalities especially
those low on extraversion (Adnan, et al.2012, p.445). It becomes easy to work with people with
different personalities as I help them to improve their productivity and wellbeing. The behavior
enables be to deal effectively with difficult conversation as the wellbeing of the employee is put
above everything else. The feedback given helps in motivating the employee.
The behavior enables me to be initiative which is important in management. This is a positive
approach to management as my behavior enables me to be likeable, honest and reliable. This
helps me to have good time when working with different personalities especially those low on
conscientiousness as I gain their trust due to my ability to make things happen willingly (Village,
2012, p.1050). My management approach to difficult conversation with employees is trusted by
everyone as I am honest and likeable. Honesty enables me to give effective feedback and deal
with difficult conversations.

Negative impacts
My introvert behavior sometimes forces me have wrong approaches to management issues as I
stick to my beliefs and values. This makes me very inflexible when making decisions. The trait
also prevents me from initiating the needed change and this makes it very hard to deal with
people with different personalities especially the one with openness (Bhardwaj, 2012, p.48).
Sticking to my beliefs makes it very hard to deal with difficult conversations as I try to change
the behavior of my employees to align with mine. This forces me to give biased feedback so that
employees can have same values as mine and this negatively affects my approach to
management.
The judgmental behavior forces me to concentrate on logic and reasons and this prevents me
from having empathy. This forces me to be judgmental and I end up taking the wrong
approaches to management. Being judgmental and lacking empathy makes it very hard for me to
deal with people with different personalities such as extraversion and also handling difficult
conversations (Bhardwaj, 2012, p.48). The approach I employ to give feedback is very wrong as
I lack empathy that can help me deal with different situations. I end up hurting emotions of my
employees and this affects the employee performance and motivation negatively.
Conclusion
My behavior has more positive impacts than negative impacts and with slight improvement, I
will be able to employ the perfect approach to management. Good management approach will be
aided by honest, straight forward and sense of duty behaviors. Being judgmental and lacking
empathy will prevent me from taking the right approach to management.
