Diversity with integration and purpose is good for business
The op-ed Author “Rebecca Sun” in her op-ed under the title “Time to retire the phrase
“diversity is good for business.” Raised a poignant concern, however, the theories taught to us in
the class related to the usefulness of diversity in the process of “problem-solving” and
“creativity” gives us an idea that the same statement can be rewritten as “ diversity with
integration and purpose is good for business”.
Author Rebecca raised a valid point when she said that diversity gives rise to a racial treatment
and the fruits of diversity cannot be measured on a certain scale. The example of the moderate
success of “Black Panther” substantiates her statement. However, after when an organization
acquires diversity as integration in the business with an intention to solve a purpose, it can
actually bring in some measurable impacts as well. Multinational companies can utilize diversity
to add some creative solutions (Viki, 2016).
Two different examples can be taken into an account; Walt Disney and Company promotes the
culture of multicultural diversity in the organization with an intention to cater to various parts of
the world on the merit of their cultural variances. This company has successfully captured the
Asian Market and recycled its old software successfully. Another example can be of Accenture.
This company is also promoting cross-cultural diversity to increase the spectrum of services and
offering a rainbow of solutions in local as well as international markets. Both these organizations
nurtured up the culture of diversity while setting some international goals in their agenda and
successfully achieved them as well. As a rebuttal to the thought process developed by Rebecca,
we can also take the example of the inclusion of Chinese and Indian characters in popular
