Topic- The impact of poor hand hygiene on infection in care home.
INTRODUCTION
The present report is based on affect of poor hand hygiene on infection in context of care
home, it explain the reason for selecting this topic, data collection, and results of findings
(Wałaszek and et.al., 2017). Furthermore, it justifies the journey of own research and impact of
health and welfare globally or locally.
TASK 1- PART 1 Literature review
P1 Role of research in defining research questions
Research question-
To identify the impact of poor hand hygiene on infection in care home.
Rationale for choosing topic-
The reason for selecting this topic is to determine the affects of poor hand hygiene on
infection in care home. The another purpose of choosing the topic is to identify the ways will use
to improve hand hygiene activity in care home.
Literature review-
Meaning of poor hand hygiene-
According to Gould and et.al., 2017 Poor hand hygiene include cold, chicken pox and
common influenza, it increases the risk of causing harmful infections. In care home, when people
or children do not wash their hand before and after eating the food, which is considered as poor
hand hygiene practice that often results as increasing infection.
Impact of poor hand hygiene-
Dicsussed by Chhapola and Brar 2015 Poor hand hygiene directly effect well-being and
health of people live in care home, it made negative impact on children lives. By not washing
hand in hospital and other places individual spread infection that make healthy person ill.
Ways to improve the practices of poor hand hygiene in care home-
As per view of Deyneko and et.al., 2016 in order to improve poor hand hygiene activity,
person will follow the instruction of washing hand appropriately. Make assure that hand is cleans
in workplace or at home before eating food.
Validity and reliability-
The research is presented in appropriate manner and draw rights findings which is
measured. Research method in this research produces consistent and suitable results.

Role of findings of review-
Finding play vital role based on chosen question, it helps to define the best techniques
will use to reduce poor hand hygiene. The main purpose of choosing research question is to
understand the positive impacts of improving poor hand hygiene. The reason for the selection of
the topic that is the impact of poor hygiene on the infection within the care home is that this is
very important criteria or the issue within the care home. This is majorly because of the reason
that in care home if the hand hygiene is not followed than it may lead to increase in the level of
infection within the other patient and the care takers. Therefore, this study will help in getting
knowledge of not increasing poor hand hygiene. Also, it was the personal interest of the
researcher because the researcher wanted to increase its knowledge relating to the impact of poor
hygiene on the whole care home and other patients.
P2 Skill audit to able to review own skills
Strength-
In order to conduct research effectively, I have good communication skill that helps to
interact with other people during collecting data about the impact of poor hand hygiene on
infections in care home.
Weakness-
I was not able to work in team of people some time because lack of self-confidence that
impact on my work.
Opportunity-
Availability of sources for collecting data is one of the biggest opportunity for me in
which I can be able to use it affectively with the help of taking rights decision.
Threat-
Due to lack of motivational skills I cannot be able to motivate my team members that
posses threaten being failure in collecting info based on chosen question.
M1
I have posses communication and critical thinking skills effectively, but on the other hand
I need to improve self-confidence and motivation skill that helps while conducting research.

`Poor hand hygiene is a concept which states that the hygiene is not proper in the hospital
or the care home. It is very crucial for the care homes and hospitals to maintain hygiene. It is so
because of the reason that poor hand hygiene spread infection and other diseases form even
touch of the person (Smiddy, O'Connell and Creedon, 2015). These infections and diseases are
like cold, chicken pox, meningitis, common respiratory illness and many others. For the present
research the care home chosen is Cross Lane House Care Home. It is a care home which offers
services to the ageing and older people.
Problem statement-
While conducing confidentiality and privacy on some sources is main problem that create
barriers in drawing right findings.
Aims and objectives
Aim
“To investigate the impact of the poor hand hygiene on the infection in the care home. A
study on Cross Lane House Care Home”
Objectives
To understand the concept of poor hand hygiene.
To analyse the relation between hand hygiene on the infection within the care home.
To evaluate impact of poor hand hygiene on the infection within the care home.
To recommend some ways of improving the poor hand hygiene.
Research Questions
1. What is the concept of poor hand hygiene?
2. What is the relationship between the hand hygiene and the infection within the care
home?
3. What is the impact of the poor hand hygiene on the infection within the care home?
4. What are some of the recommendation for the improvement of the poor hand hygiene and
to improve its impact on the level of infection in the care home?
P3 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research type- this is defined as the method which is used by the researcher to complete
the research process. These are of two different types that is qualitative and quantitative. For the
present study the research type chosen is qualitative research. This is because of the reason that
Document Page
the research wants to deeply understand the concept and this can be done with help of qualitative
research (Silverman, ed., 2016).
Research approach- this refers to as the steps and process used to conduct the whole
research. This includes mainly two types that is inductive and deductive. For researching on the
topic of impact of poor hand hygiene on the infection in care home is the inductive approach.
This approach is being used because of the reason that this best suit the qualitative
approach and assist the researcher in making the research more effective.
Research design- researcher in this report will select qualitative research as research
design method for understanding the chosen topic deeply and its impact on people health.
Sampling- Research will choose simple random sampling in this research in which they
select potential participants for collecting data about chosen question. 20 people selected as
participants.
Data analysis- in this report researcher will use thematic analysis because it is beneficial
as helps in diving questions in various theme and then effectively interpretate that information
related with final theme.
Data collection- Researcher will use the mix of primary and secondary data collection
methods because it is the best way to gather more and more info about subject chose above.
M2
With the help of selecting the best and most suitable methods in this research researcher
will be able to draw correct finding and conclusion with better outcomes that helps to improve
poor hand hygiene practice and reduce its impact on human life.
D1
Thematic, primary and secondary data collection methods is highly effective as it
supports to reach at final conclusion, give in-depth knowledge about current topic.
P4 Ethical consideration to carry out ethical research
It refer to many things that researcher has to maintain during conducting research, they
have to meet with legislative requirement and work ethically, they do not intend to harm anyone
while the whole procedure. Researcher assures that data gathered from different sources must be
authentic and also focus on data privacy which is not been liked in front of other person.

D2
Improving poor hand hygiene is quite important and beneficial in care home that helps to
enhance the ability of work effectively. Hand wash, after and before eating any thing is the way
to improve bad habit and reduce risk of illness.
P7 Impact of findings for practice and policy
Findings impact for practice and policy positively, it supports to improve bad hand
hygiene and develop the good hand hygiene practices that prevent from sickness and illness for
long period.
P8 Impact of research journey on professional development
During the entire procedure of conducting research I will be able to communicate
effectively and gather many data about my course work, I found evidence based practices and
implement practically. But due to lack of self-confidence and motivation skill I am unable to
work in team.
D3
By improving the health and safeguarding through lifespan people can improve their
health, it impacts on well-being and health of local people and work effectively at global level.
M4
The research will be developed in systematic and effective way, that helps to provide
better outcomes. I play major role in contributing to improve health, safeguarding and safety
through gathering data about evidence based practices that impact on long term period on helath
of people live in care home.
