INTRODUCTION
Information technology refers to computer software that are helpful in storing, accessing
and manipulating data. For transfer of information and data in organisation need computer
technologies. This is called as information and communication technology. A communication
system cannot operate efficiently without the use of technologies. Tesco is a British
multinational retailer company which was founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen. There are approx
6569 stores available in world. It has headquartered in England. It serves areas like UK, Ireland,
Thailand, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, India, Malaysia. This report discuss about the
impacts of information technology in work place environment of Tesco.

Overview of information technology
Information technology deals with information and data that are used for accessing,
string, transferring and manipulating. Technology is getting advanced nowadays and using other
forms of software to store big data. Role of engineer is very important in handling software. IT
engineers uses computer and software to make applications that deals with data. A complex
design is adopted by engineers to make such applications for industries which makes process to
access information easier and efficient. For the future purpose, engineer have responsibility to
handle data protection qualitatively (Schnoll, 2015). Different operations like cybersecurity,
technical operations, data acquisition, information superiority. It is not only limited to software,
hardware are also involved in information technology. Physical equipments and tools are used
that are addressed under technologies to have positive outcomes.
Applications like cloud computing, automation, remote working, mobile technology, data
protection, management of resources, source software. These different information technologies
are used in Tesco industry to have competitive advantage. This helps to increase profitability by
achieving business objectives on time. New technologies consumes cost but saves time of
employees. It also improves their work performance to achieve targets within specified time.
Changes in existing process will make benefits to Tesco for increase their market to more
countries too (Jiao and Onwuegbuzie, 2017).

operates globally then, it needs sharing of information efficiently. Computer software deals with

nowadays and to stand at higher position, it need to protect and secure data, plans and strategies.
It will help Tesco management team to maximise their profit and to became favourable among
public (Steven scheck, 2016). There are some applications which has a great impact in work
place environment and are described below:
Cloud computing
Cloud computing technology is used by all business unit nowadays to have efficient
results in accessing and storing data. This technology is referred to access data on a single
medium channel. It helps Tesco management team for all over the world to use same software to
access and store data. It can operate to multiple locations. Data can be accessed by the user to
share information. This impacts on cost to have different connections for accessing data. This
saves both time and money. It improves the performance of employees in Tesco by improving
their skills to access previous data for learning. It also increases security feature for Tesco by
implementing only single technology and other cannot have license to access cloud computing
applications.
Mobile technology
This is an application of information technology to access data through smart mobile
phones. There are many applications that are running in world through which sharing of data
becomes easier (Saunders and Brynjolfsson, 2016). It makes employees convenient and efficient
to improve their speed of doing work. Mobile technology is mostly beneficial in making
communication process efficient. Mobile are attached with computer software in Tesco industry
to have interaction with customers and to make them satisfied. It impacts on queries of customers
to be mailed to employees' mobile phone applications so that they can get instant reply of queries
and employees also do bot need to go for searching software to reply them.
Automation
This technology is also an advancement of information technology where management
team of Tesco deals with controlling and monitoring procedure. Automation technology makes
controlling process easier. Managers can control the process from sitting at home as well. They
can access through the process on computer software and can switch between to on and off the

Cybersecurity is must for having data protection system in computer software. It is
crucial valuable for management team of Tesco to have competitive advantage. Other brands in
retailing sector makes strategies to in public trust and maximize profitability. All wants to know
strategies of other brands to make plans against those. Therefore, to secure data is most
necessary (Lioukas, Reuer and Zollo, 2016). Therefore, information technology engineers
develops such applications in which other cannot access to data without password. These sites
impacts on work place in which data accessed by authorised persons only and make sure that
data do not get hacked and results in achieving positive business integrity.
Remote working
The process of accessing data on computer software makes employees comfortable to
access data through a single source only. But with the advancement of new technologies, this
process become more easy by accessing through remote. Employees of Tesco can get accessed to
data by remote process through which switching can be done effectively.
Management of resources
A business unit has many sectors of different resources like human resources, financial,
etc. it becomes a challenging task for organisation to manage such resources efficiently.
Information technology provide solution to mangers to manage different sectors in Tesco.
Different business operations are managed with an application called enterprise resource
planning. This is a software which deals with operations on a single platform. It impacts om
users to access their information on their ERP portal (Peltier, 2016).

the importance of information technologies in industry. Tesco is one of the user of information
technology which have involvement of many applications that makes process of accessing
information effective and efficient. Importance of information technologies are described below:
Sharing of information can get done easily. Cloud computing software is one of the
information technology that is used by different employees of Tesco to operate on same
platform. For example, an employee in Malaysia need to have data of India then, they do
not have to wait for response from India. They can access through it by having authorised
license (Khanam, Siddiqui and Talib, 2016). Information are of three types; subjective,
objective and external. Subjective information refers to unknown data that needs t be
shared. Objective information refers to known data that is shared between different
employees. External information refers to that data which is environmentally spread.
Effective process of accessing data and information helps management team of Tesco to
make decisions easily. Recording data at one place or platform helps managers to make
decisions which makes profit to both organisation and employees. This motivates
employee to have healthy environment work place where decisions are made instantly
and speedily.
Information technology is important in managing data for longer time. This technology
has many applications like ERP software which makes easier for employee to access their
information. It helps several sectors in industry like human resources, financial unit. All
access through single website and use remote for controlling data and process. This
makes employee comfortable in Tesco work place.

Data collection is a process to record and observe data through many channels. There are
two ways of collecting data; primary and secondary.
This report used both the ways of collecting data. Primary data is collected through
interview and mock test (Chatterjee and et.al., 2015). Elsewhere, secondary data is collected by

and quantitative data.

This report summarised about information technologies that are used in work place
environment. Information technologies are getting advanced nowadays due to which employees
do not need to face problems in managing information and data. Different technologies are
analysed which helps to access data like cloud computing, mobile technology automation, data
protection, source licensing and all. For controlling and monitoring data, automation is outlined
as the best technology. A questionnaire is made for primary data collection that helps in
analysing impacts of information technology in workplace. Different interview answered are
recorded to evaluate the effectiveness of information technologies.
