The Impact of Attitude Towards Mathematics on Grade 7 Students

This dissertation investigates the impact of students' attitudes toward mathematics on their academic achievement in Grade 7 at H.DH Atoll Education Centre. The study explores the background, including the significance of mathematics proficiency in modern society and the influence of attitudes shaped by beliefs and experiences. It reviews relevant literature, covering the anxiety surrounding mathematics and the importance of fostering positive attitudes through teaching and classroom environments. The methodology includes qualitative and quantitative research methods, focusing on Grade 7 students. The study aims to determine the relationship between attitude and performance, identifying factors affecting learning and addressing subsidiary questions regarding student attitudes, achievement status, and learning factors. The research considers demographic, instrumental, and individual factors influencing student outcomes, with the goal of providing insights for schools, teachers, and parents to improve student attitudes and performance in mathematics. The study includes appendices with various supporting materials.
