INTRODUCTION
Employees are crucial stakeholder of business who perform assigned roles &
responsibilities in best possible way. For making optimum use of productivity & efficiency of
work force, it is imperative to motivate them constantly. Motivation refers to a process which
aims to develop willingness among work force so that they can perform assigned work in
significant manner (Bordel and et. al., 2018). The present study is about Morrisons which is a
well known supermarket Company based on UK. The report aims to identify impact of staff
motivation technique over employee retention within organization.
Research Aim: “To ascertain the impact of motivation schemes on employee retention at work
place.” A study on Morrisons.

Concept of staff motivation
As per the point of view of Zen (2020), Employee motivation refers to the level of
energy, productivity, creativity, efficiency which employees bring in job. Motivation is a process
wherein staff members are motivated to work in pre-defined manner for betterment of
organization. For getting positive outcomes, it is imperative to develop willingness among work
force. With this, they get inspire to put utmost efforts & proficiency for realization of
organizational goals. In addition to this, higher employee motivation leads towards higher
engagement & productivity. Motivated employees are likely to put significant efforts for success
of organization. Further, motivation is helpful in driving positive outcomes by improving overall
proficiency of work force. It is stated that motivated employees are the assets of company. They
perform assigned work in best possible way which further facilitates growth of business. Without
motivation, productivity of work force reduces that leads towards lower output & production.
Additionally, motivation is regarded as the key- element of success of business entity.
Motivation offers a sense of satisfaction & self-fulfillment to employees. Hence, motivation is a
crucial practice which needs to adopt by each & every company in order to ensure enlargement
of business in an efficient manner.
Different techniques of staff motivation along with the impact over employee retention
As per the point of view of Anitha (2016), Motivation is important to get the work done
as per set standards. There are several ways adopted by HR managers in order to enhance the
engagement of staff members. Motivation techniques are broadly classified in two parts which
are monetary as well as non –monetary techniques. Monetary techniques are related with
offering monetary incentives, bonus to employees. It comprises ways such as increment in
salary, share in profit, incentives & more. On other side, non monetary techniques includes
rewards, recognition, acknowledgement & other such ways. Here, staff members are motivated
without offering any monetary benefits. It is stated that these techniques have major impact on
employee retention. In context of Morrisons, they offer monetary as well as non monetary
techniques in order to motivate employees to work in an appropriate way. These techniques are
helpful in boosting the satisfaction level of employees so that they stay with company for longer

Therefore, positive correlation has been identified between motivation techniques & employee
retention.
Challenges faced by Morrisons while implementing motivation techniques at work place
As per the point of view of Linda Samuels, (2018), However, motivation is crucial but it
is really challenging task to implement appropriate technique of motivation. There are several
challenges faced by HR managers of Morrsions during implementation of motivation techniques.
Lack of clarity is the major obstacle of motivation wherein managers do not have significant
information about needs & requirements of employees. For motivating employees in an
appropriate way, it is imperative to have idea about their preferences, needs, un-fulfilled
requirements. Employees have different expectations from company due to which, HR managers
face a lot of difficulties to match with their level of expectations. In addition to this, it is
burdensome tasks for HR managers to evaluate needs, requirements of diversify work force
which also constraint in motivating work force in an efficient manner. Apart from this, it not
possible to satisfy all the employees as different people have different expectations which also
get changed over the period of time. So, it is difficult to alien motivational techniques with
requirements of work force. For this purpose, HR personnel’s of respective company are
required to maintain proper interaction with staff members & adopt such techniques which help
in maximizing the satisfaction level of work force.

In research, there is a proper methodology is applied in order to collect relevant data &
information. Here, research methodology for current report is given as under:
Data collection:
Data is imperative for research as it helps in drawing appropriate conclusion. For data
collection various tools are used which are stated below:
Primary data: It is the first hand & raw data which is gathered by researcher with own
efforts. Here, primary information is highly authentic as it is collected by investigator without
taking help of any outsider parties. Primary data helps in bringing higher relevancy &

authenticity in research project. There is huge cost incur during collection of primary information
(Walte and Andersen, 2016).
Secondary data: In research, secondary information is also used in order to reach at
meaningful conclusion. Articles, journals, websites are used for collecting secondary
information. Here, detailed information can gathered through secondary sources. It is an
effective source of data collection (Bresler and Stake, 2017). For the purpose of current report,
secondary information is taken from suitable articles, journals, websites & other such sources.
Sources of data:
Questionnaire: It is a widely used source of data collection. In this, a questionnaire
including some set of questions is prepared. Further, investigator get the questionnaire filled by
respondents (Pruzan, 2016). Here, investigator can forward the questionnaire through mail or get
it filled by face to face meeting. For the purpose of current report, data is collected through
questionnaire as it will help in getting detailed information in time as well as cost effective
manner.
Websites: There are a lot of websites have been written by different authors. These
websites are used by researchers in order to collect detailed information in cost effective manner
(Devi, 2017). In current scenario, relevant information has been taken from suitable websites.
Articles: Articles are also considered as great source of secondary data collection. These
articles are written by well known writes & further help investigator in carrying out research
project in an efficient manner.
Sampling: It is a technique of research wherein some samples are selected from the whole
population. Here, samples are selected through probability technique in order to get appropriate
results. For current project 30 employees have been taken as a sample for the purpose to collect
information.

are some challenges faced by HR personnel’s during implementation of motivational techniques.
It is possible to overcome with these challenges by preparing suitable strategies & framework.

After analyzing above mentioned points, it is analyzed that there is requirement of some
improvement for further betterment. For this purpose, some necessary suggestions are mentioned
as under:
Training session needs to arrange by company in order to improve overall level of
productivity & efficiency of work force. These training programs will help in enhancing
knowledge, competencies, skills of employees so that they can perform assigned work in
proper way. Trained employees are likely to work efficiently by making optimum use of
available resources which further reduce down cost of production & also inflates overall
sales & profit margin.
It is suggested to adopt appropriate monetary as well as non monetary techniques of
motivation as per need, expectations of employees. For this purpose, it is required to
analyze requirements f different employees & then adopt suitable approach to motivate
work force. Some employees get satisfied with monetary ways while some other looks
for non monetary ways. Hence, there is requirement to choose suitable approaches as per
requirement in order to get best possible results.
There is requirement to prepare suitable strategies in order to overcome with the
challenges of employee motivation. With this, HR managers can implement motivational
techniques in an appropriate way which will further help in getting suitable outcomes in
future period of time.
