According to the definition of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society
s nursing informatics is considered as a specialty which integrated nursing science, computer
science as well as information science for communicating data and managing data in nursing
practice.” In this context, nursing informatics has become extremely important due to rapidly
changing technologic advances. As discussed by Booth et al. (2017), in the United States,
previously nursing professionals experienced various challenges associated with documentation,
difficulties in the communication of patient data and care, decision making which resulted in
compromised quality of care, high medication, documentation and communication errors, and
mortality rate. On the other hand, Kinnunen et al. (2017), suggested that the majority of the
nursing professionals lack the knowledge of technology or databases which resulted in
compromised quality care, high cost of the health care, frequent breaching of confidentiality
ethics. The purpose of this paper is to implement nursing informatics by integrating a server-
based electronic medical database system which will improve the outcome and efficiency of
health care. Kotter’s change management would be used for implementing the nursing
informatics projects.
Stakeholders impacted by the project:
Four stakeholders would be directly impacted by implementing the nursing informatics
would be nursing professionals, physicians, non-health care staffs and patients. The nursing
professionals would be highly impacted by the projected as it will enable nursing professionals to
secure patient data and send information to the physicians quickly and efficiently, improve daily
work flow, provide the best possible data and restore confidentiality of the patient without doing
communication and documentation errors. It will also help nursing professionals to assess

potential issues associated with patient care and nursing practice. it will help nursing
professionals to improve decision making, use critical thinking skills and improve health
outcomes. Storing information in server-based electronic medical databases will be more easily
available to all members of the multidisciplinary team, especially physicians. It will further
enable professionals to gain the information quickly, interpret data and develop an appropriate
plan of action (McBride & Tietze, 2016). The project will implement help other non-health care
staff to gather information for collaborating in the care process so that each patient receives
standardized care. Considering the fourth stakeholder, the implementation of nursing informatics
will improve patient care which in turn improve patient satisfaction and improve health outcome
(Honey et al., 2017). While the project will have a positive impact on these stakeholders, the
negative impact of the project would be that due to lack of expertise, many professionals,
especially nurses and physicians may be subjected to a high level of psychological distress such
as anxiety, depression and reluctant to adhere to the project (Ashrafi et al., 2019). Hence, in this
context, necessary education and training are required to give to the stakeholders for the
successful implementation of the project and gain a positive impact.
Explain the outcome or efficiency and process of implements:
The positive outcome of the project will be improved the efficiency of the care process
and quality of care process. Applying informatics to the clinical setting will help nursing
professionals and physicians to identify potential issues associated with care. For example, after
gaining quick information with the help of electronic documentation the server-based databases,
the nursing professionals and physicians can identify quick changes in the patient status such as
vital signs of the patients. The standardized nursing language will facilitate the acceptance of
advance methods of the documentation in the server-based electronic databases (Adams et al.,

2015). In the era of the mobilization, it will help nursing professionals and physicians to provide
care to the patients who are living in the disadvantageous area and unable to seek help due to
lack of availability of transportation. Safdari, Ghazisaeidi and Jebraeily (2015), suggested that
usually research studies, national and local standards, and patient care data are used for
developing these server-based electronic databases. Hence, in this context, the informatics will
reduce medication errors and identify documentation errors and identify effective workflow.
The informatics can be implemented by Kotter's change management such as Create
Urgency, Form a Powerful Coalition, Create a Vision for Change, Communicate the Vision,
Remove Obstacles, create Short-Term Wins, Build on the Change, Anchor the Changes in
Corporate Culture (Baloh, J., Zhu, X., & Ward, 2018). The rationale behind implementing
through Kotter's change management is that it will enable leaders to receive feedback from the
stakeholders whether the project will be effective or not. Based on the feedback, the aims, and
component of the nursing informatics project.
The project team and incorporation of nursing informatics specialist:
In this case, the project team will contain nurse, manager, nurse educators, nurse leaders,
policymakers and project coordinator. The nurses will receive training regarding the use of
informatics which will be provided by nurse educators. The nurse educators will be coordinated
by nurse managers who will share the vision and purpose of the project implementation (Barrett
and Stephens 2017). The nurse educators along with project coordinators will be coordinated
regarding the daily progress of the project implementation.
The nursing informatics specialist can be recruited based on the experience, skills, and
expertise in the specialist area. The examination and training can be given to the professionals
before recruiting them. The professionals will help the nurses to gather skills.

Conclusion:
On a concluding note, it can be said that nursing informatics has become extremely
important due to rapidly changing technologic advances. In this case, nursing informatics will be
implemented and it will be implemented by integrating a server-based electronic medical
database system which will improve the outcome and efficiency of health care. The stakeholders
will be patients, nurses, physicians, and non-health care staff. It can be implemented by Kotter's
change management and impact will be improved workflow and improved care.
