Thesis statement – Procrastinating is positive or negative.
INTRODUCTION
Procrastinating term refers to the delay, particularly that require immediate attention. It
the behaviour of putt off activities or work to be executed later or in the future. This a very bad
habit as this can have negative impact or influence on individual career growth or personal
development. In present scenario student postponed their work just because they feel boring and
unpleasant to do that work (Semprebon,Amaro and Beuren, 2017)All procrastination is delayed
but all delays are not procrastination. The term Procrastinating refers to the special form of
postponement examples of such types of delays are irrational.
The essay has focus on understanding the concept of Procrastination and analysing the
whether procrastination is a positive or negative behaviour.
MAIN BODY
Procrastinating is considered as a bad habit of delaying in work and positioning of work
for long period intentionally without any justifiable reason. Many people experience
procrastination in their day to day life and they do not considered this as a problem until and
unless it has effect on individual ability to work and it develops psychological as well as physical
discomfort It has been observed procrastination technique is adopted by college student.
Procrastination can be a serious problem. It can have both internal well as external consequence.
Internal effects include irritation, despair, regret, emotional breakdown, demotivation and self
blame. Example of External consequences are impaired academic, poor work presentation, loss
of opportunities and it has great impact on relationship as well. It is considered as most
destructive habit which have great influence and impact on person life and career (Meier, A.,
Reinecke, L. and Meltzer, C.E., 2017)
The argument related to the whether procrastinating is good or bad. Some people
consider procrastinating as a bad habit as this may have great effect on individual performance
and career growth. Many of the adult people stated that chronically procrastinate. They believe
that procrastination can offer a temporary break from upcoming deadline but the out cum

procrastination can lead to depression, anxiety etc.Early year procrastinating is not at al
considered as bad thing. The idea that procrastinating is the bad habit has been evolved in
present era. According to the Jonathan who is totally against and other hand this procedure is
supported by Americans who stated that this activity helps individual in saving their time for
other important activities that requires quick action.
The present studies indicate that procrastinating is the effective tool that is now been
used by human being for managing delays.
Some experts and scientist has argued that there are many two different types of
procrastinating these are active and passive. Active procrastinating indicates that human being
realize that they are unduly making delay in performing particular task but individual have focus
on performing other important task. Passivity demonstrates that there is no effort or initiative is
taken b\y individual to facilitate any activity.
The third argument is related to the factor that influence people to delay their work.
Academic Procrastination can be categorised into two, these are Positive and negative
procrastination. Positive procrastination is referred to as the individual able to achieve advantage
by procrastinating their work. For instance improved academic performance. Negative
procrastination is term used for person suffering from negative impact of delaying in work. This
method is majorly adopted by undergraduate students. This habit has great effect on the ability
off individual to perform task and complete their work on time. It also minimises their capability
of bearing work pressure this can create problems in their professional life as well. There are
many elements that associated with procrastination are measurement of anxiety, reduce in
decision making abilities, Lack of self-control, Absence of assertion, threat of consequences of
success, over confidence may lead to imperfection. There are two main reason for
procrastination these are concern about failure and work averseness.
Procrastination cannot be considered right by the collage teachers. This is because as
student it is expected from them that they will show disciplined behaviour and will complete
work on time. This is because main attempt of collage is not just to give education but also to
give more and more discipline to them. It can be noted that when in schools students failed to
perform their assignments on time then strict action is taken against them and same are punished.
Thus, it can be said that if any student failed to deliver assignment on time then in that case same
can be assumed as negative behaviour because it was responsibility of student to perform

assigned task on time (Guo and Yammarino, 2017). Student failed to do so and it is its mistake.
Hence, in no condition such kind of behaviour cannot be considered good by the teachers.
However, every time this situation must not be viewed from same angle. It is possible that
student due to some emergency failed to perform assigned task on time. Means that one may be
suffered from any disease or it may face any physical problem. It depend on teachers that from
which side they view cases that are related to procrastination. One must do full investigation and
must try to identify reasons due to which delay in work happened. If it is identified that student
failed to submit its work on time due to its negligence behaviour then in that case strict action
must be taken against it. On other hand, if in any situation it is observed that due to some
emergencies one failed to perform its assignment then in that case relaxation must be given to an
individual. Hence, it can be said that there must be a panel of members that must review cases of
procrastination and after doing detail investigation must determine whether there is need to take
action against individual or relaxation must be given against any issue. There must be range of
actions that must be pre-determined by considering specific situation (Gustavson and
Miyake,2017). Means that number of days an individual made delay in submission of assignment
must be taken in to account and accordingly action must be taken against student so that it can be
ensured that student will remain in discipline. Students also need to understand importance of
discipline in their personal life. It is discipline which ensured that individual will be able to do
lots of things in its life in proper manner. Hence, tutors must view entire case and accordingly
must take action in favour or against student.
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded from the report that the study of procrastination is important as it
helps in identifying the reason for this effect. It has been analysed that this type of habit is
generally developed by undergraduate students. This behaviour can have positive as well as
negative effect on individual academic as well as career growth. Concern about failure and work
pressure are the two reason for procrastination. It has been analysed from the above study that
there are various factors that influence individual to delay their work. The project has
demonstrated that the procrastinate uniformly have negative outcome. It has been concluded
from the report that the procrastinate are of two type active and passive .Both the form of
procrastinating have been explained by the study.
