Question 1
It is the responsibility of the airport management to determine the safe experience of
journey for the passengers. In order to enhance the passenger processing and ensuring a hassle-
free experience for them, a Smart Airport Passenger Processing System (SAPPS) would be
considered as useful. In order to fulfil the software needs for the for the SAPPS project, some of
the main criteria needs to be fulfilled. These include:
1. Conducting a Feasibility analysis
2. Performing brief analysis and determination over requirements
3. Considering the best practices that would suit the airport industry
The list of software packages that would suit the SAPPS Project are:
1. IBS (Avient Approach) – Avient Approach is considered as a passenger management
and operations software package that offers certain facilities such as enabling airports to manage
the airport operations (Boreiko & Teslyuk, 2016). Improved situational awareness and utilisation
of available resources are the prime benefits being offered by the software package.
2. Lufthansa Systems – The BagScan facility by Lufthansa Systems is a software
package that helps in authorizing and verifying the loading of baggage systems in the airport. It
further helps in preventing off-loading of baggage (Rouchdi et al., 2018). It further facilitates
towards the on-time departures of aircrafts and bringing improvement in the areas concerning
passenger safety.

The software acquisition method that would be used for working over the SAPPS project
is Purchase and Modify. Based on using this method, it can be discussed that the desired
software package would need to be purchased from a software vendor, which would further be
needed to be modified as per the requirements of the airport (McQuade et al., 2019). However,
this modification over the purchased software would need to be made as per the requirements of
processing and would be made as direct form of changes within the software code applied by the
software developers.
The list of software development options that would be recommended for each of the
software packages are discussed along with their justifications:
1. IBS (Avient Approach) – In order to implement the IBS systems within the SAPPS
project, agile methodology should be used. This is mainly due to the reason that it follows an
adaptive approach that would further be able to respond according to the changes required by the
airport authorities.
2. Lufthansa Systems – In order to implement these systems, spiral model of software
development options would be considered as useful. Based on using this system, the risk factors
would highly get reduced. The model would be considered as highly suitable for highly risk-
based projects based on the needs of the airport.

The rules of validation based on the SAPPS that would be applied on the Data Entry
Screens within the automated kiosk at the terminal entrance are:
1. Sequence check – This validation rule should be applied within the SAPPS as it would
help in testing a certain list of records or files in an ascending or descending sequence (Lin et al.,
2016). This testing would be performed based on the key fields or items present within the
records.
2. Data Type Check – This form of validation rule would be applied at the Data Entry
Screens within the automated kiosk based on performing the operation of checking each of the
values present within the String attribute and which would conform to the consistent data type.
3. Validity check –referential integrity – A validity check is defined as the process
through which it is ensured whether a construct or concept would be deemed as acceptable
within the context of the SAPPS project (Zhou et al., 2016).
4. Batch controls –hash totals – The use of batch control as a validation rule performs
checking of data-processing systems. It also applies to certain batches of input data during the
stage of data preparation. Within the certain validation rule, hash totals would be used for
establishing record counts. It would thus be considered as the total of values in certain selected
fields present within each record.
