Section Three: Literature sources searched
Use of key literature sources to support your research question, objective or hypothesis:
Literature review introduces to the process of gathering secondary information through secondary
sources i.e. books, journals, magazines, publication research etc. These sources will help in gathering
of secondary data that result in attainment of project objectives through project questions. Therefore,
questions of the current project will be explained as below:
What is the impact of talent management in improving business performance of Crockett & Jones?
As per Wright (2018), talent management is a way with the help of which professionals manage and
develop employees for delivering higher business performances. In context to Crockett & Jones, talent
management impacts positively towards business performance as it develops high performing culture in
which managers initiate to manage talents more effectively to bring changes that leads to highest
standards.
Accordance to Khoreva, Vaiman and Van Zalk (2017) Talent management also encourages
human resource professionals of company to hire, develop, manage along with retain most talented
together with excellent employees. With this, all the set practices of Crockett & Jones are completed
promptly as per determined strategies. It creates a picture of brand which attract potential talents that
contributes in improving overall working of company resulting to favourable impacts on improving
business practices along with outcomes.
What are the major roles played by human resource manager at workplace of Crockett & Jones?
According to Pistrui and Dimov (2018), Human resource manager is an individual who looks towards
all practices and set strategies for managing employees at work place. In Crockett & Jones, key role of
human resource manager is to decision maker wherein all related decisions to manage employees are
devised promptly. It is analysed that managers do not delegate as well as let others to make decisions
and they have responsibility to monitor working of other people. Another role that is performed by
human resource manager of the company is providing talents with career assistance. In this, managers
conduct evaluation of human resources and accordingly guides all existing employees to advance their
career. With this, they gain deeper insights related to available human capital for potential role
succession.
Gutierrez-Gutierrez, Barrales-Molina and Kaynak (2018) says that human resource managers
have role to provide organisational structure that meets needs to manage most essential assets of

venture that is employees. Within Crockett & Jones, role of human resource manager is to provide a
safer workplace to its employees. In this, manager have responsibilities towards developing and
supporting safe practices to mandate any injuries that have chances to happen.
How talent management will be impacted on the role played by HR at Crockett & Jones?
From the statements of Narayanan, Rajithakumar and Menon (2019) it is reviewed that talent
management guides in implementing all roles of human resource manager properly. In relevance to
Crockett & Jones, one of role performed by human resource manager is to improve on-boarding
experiences of employees in which talent management impacts by providing an organised as well as
efficient aspect for onboarding people by creating profiles that holds significant information about the
company. It automates new hire paperwork of managers that saves professionals to retain talents for
longer durations.
As per the view presented by Al-Dalahmeh and Héder-Rima (2021), talent management is
positively impacted on the role of Human resource manager within an organisation. According to this
article, employee turnover is a main role of human resource that is only possible by having talent
management in the workplace. Talent management in the workplace of Crockett & Jones helps human
resource manager in retaining of top talent by taking appropriate initiatives. These are maintaining
individual identity, providing opportunities, relationship management, self-motivation, role design,
succession planning, job rotation and many others. All these are effective talent management strategies
that would be used by human resource manager for reduction employee turnover and retaining best
talent for longer time period.

areas of research will cover:
Research methodology is significant part of the project because it assists in collecting and evaluating of
data through specific methodology (Van Tiem and et. al., 2021). For this section, research onion
framework will be used by researcher. This framework includes different layers that will be defined as
below:
Philosophies: This is an over-arching term relating to the creation of knowledge about the subject.
There are mainly three types of philosophies such as ontology, epistemology, Axiology (Hughes and
Barlo, 2021). All these are essential philosophies but for carrying out current study, epistemology is a
chosen research philosophy. Pragmatism and interpretivisim are two types of epistemology
philosophy that will be applied by researcher for collecting and evaluating quantitative and qualitative
data about the impact of talent management on the role of HR. Main reason regarding selection of
pragmatism is it provides data in form of numbers in minimum period of time. Main reason about the
selecting of interpretivisim philosophy is it helps in helps in gathering of qualitative information from
literature review.
Approaches: This introduces to the process of analysing information that will be gathered from
qualitative and quantitative research method. There are two approaches of data analysis i.e. induction
and deduction. Both approaches are useful within a research project (Messineo and et. al., 2021).
Reason behind selection of inductive and deductive will be explained as below:
Inductive: This approach facilitates in analysing qualitative data that will be gathered from
books, journals etc., sources in literature review.
Deductive: This approach will help researcher in analysing of quantitative information in
minimum time. This approach assist researcher by explaining causal relationship between
dependent and independent variables. For example: In current project talent management is
independent variable and role of HR is dependent variable.
Strategies: This describes how the investigator intends to execute the project. Research strategy
include different number of approaches such as action research, experimental work, case study,
interviews, systematic literature review or survey. All these are main approaches of research strategy
but in accordance to the existing topic, literature review and survey are chosen approaches. In this,
literature review will help in gathering of secondary and qualitative data, whereas survey will assist in
collecting of quantitative data. Therefore, both survey and literature review are essential in current
research project.
Choices: This is a fourth layer of research onion framework that includes three types of research
choices i.e. mono method, mixed method and multi-method (Low and et. al., 2021). All these
choices are essential but for executing research project on talent management and HR role, mixed
Page 5 of 12
Document Page
method is a chosen research choice. As it includes both qualitative and quantitative research.
Research behind selection of qualitative and quantitative method will be explained as below:
Qualitative research: This research provides in-depth information about the topic in less
period of time.
Quantitative research: Main reason regarding the selection of qualitative research is it helps in
selection of larger sample size out of total population.
Time horizons: Time is considering significant factor of research because it helps in completion of full
project within allotted time period. There are two significant approaches of time horizon that are cross-
sectional and longitudinal. Cross-sectional approach is based on actual situation and helps in
completion of project in less time. Longitudinal is another approach of time horizon that takes
maximum time in completion of project. Therefore, both approaches are effective but within a research
project, cross-sectional approach is more suitable (Motjolopane, 2021). As it helps researcher to
complete each activity of the project in allotted and minimum time period.
Primary and secondary methods: Primary and secondary are two methods of data collection that will
be used within an investigation. In order to gather primary information, questionnaire will be used by
researcher for collecting data from 30 employees of Crockett & Jones, London, UK. In order to gather
secondary data, there are different sources such as books, articles, journals etc. will be used for
literature review. Therefore, within a research project, both primary and secondary are selected
methods (Li, Shamsuddin and Braga, 2021). Main reason regarding the selection of primary method is
it provides quantitative data in less time and less sources. Main reason about the choosing of secondary
method is it provides qualitative and in-depth information without taking maximum cost.
Techniques and procedures: This is important for researcher to select effective research technique for
collecting data about the topic. There are different techniques of the research such as focus group,
experiment, observation, interview, questionnaire, modelling etc. All these are effective techniques but
for collecting data about the talent management and role of human resource, questionnaire is a chosen
research technique. Main reason regarding selection of questionnaire is it provides reliable and valid
information without consuming more time, cost and resources (Jeffares, 2021).
Sampling: This is the process of selecting sample from sampling techniques i.e. probability and non-
probability. Both techniques of sampling are essential but for executing current work, probability
sampling will be applied because it helps in selection of larger number of sample. Simple random
sampling as a type of probability sampling will be applied within an investigation (O’Leary, Salmon
and Clifford, 2021). Through this technique 30 employees of Crockett & Jones, London, UK will be
selected randomly.
