Texting is killing language
Texting is a new form of language that is invented by people who text frequently. People who
don’t text are not conscious and familiar to the texting language. It makes it harder for them
to recognize the language of people who communicate through text. Language was invented
because of the way people used to talk in the old times, the first writing was based on the way
people talk, with short sentence (Ramanayake & Williams, 2017).
It is often said that texting is scourge as it declines the writing ability of a person by
destroying the literacy. Texting can be said as a miraculous thing that emerges complexity in
the practical life. Texting is not about writing as it is much less reflective. It is said that if
writing is done like speaking then it is said to be logical. It is true that texting is killing the
originality of a language, as no one uses proper punctuation and grammatical rules while
texting (Ramanayake & Williams, 2017). It doesn’t happen while talking as all the
grammatical rules and punctuations are followed while speaking. Thus, texting causes some
sort of decline as texting has lack of structure and lack of rules that is somewhere killing the
basic rules. It is found that texting is changing the way of communication and spoiling the
basic rules (Siragusa, 2017).
The texting habits are developing in young generation as they use different way of
communication with different people. They talk in a different manner with their boss and in a
different way with their friends (Siragusa, 2017). There is no fixed way in which
communication takes place and it has changed the forms of language. Texting is an own
discourse as they communicate with different people in a different way. In the text message
individual use abbreviations that do not have any meaning and they have their own kind of
grammar that don’t make sense (Lefkowitz & Hedgcock, 2017). Thus, it is killing the
language as texting can be said as a poor writing as they have their own kind of conventions.
It is said that in the upcoming time, young generation will not understand the basis of
language and will adopt wrong sense. For example, many abbreviation have been used LOL
is one of them that doesn’t mean laughing out loud that has been evolved in a different way
by different people (Lefkowitz & Hedgcock, 2017). The literal meaning of words and
sentences have changed while texting. Texting is considered as a downfall in context to
language development. Texting is the instant messages or thoughts that are written without
following any rules then is not focus put over capitalization, punctuation or any grammatical
rule (Yusaf, Khan & Nazeer, 2015). Texting is just a causal way of communication. From the

research, it was found that texting is killing the language as it has developed its own
grammar. It is a problematic situation for young generation as they do not understand the
basic of language and kills the actual meaning of it (Yusaf, Khan & Nazeer, 2015).
It is seen that texting has killed language as the correct use of spelling and grammar has
vanished and while texting short forms of words are used that do not make any sense. Texting
is done as per the convenience like using short cuts or poor spellings should to make sure that
it is understood. If texting goes no this way the communication skills and writing skills will
degrade in the upcoming years (Addis, 2017). Texting has developed the habit of writing in
lingos that cannot be used in professional or academic writing. Thus, it can be said that
texting is killing language I believe texting is killing language because texting shortens words
and is greatly modifying the language (Behrens, Johnson, Allard & Caroli, 2016). As an
English instructor, I have found that the texting language because it has become so natural for
many students. Grammar rules are forgotten with compulsive writer and thus excessive
testing will lead to poor communications skills (Bock, et. al, 2015).
It is observed that due to texting, an individual has lost the ability to spell the words correctly
by using appropriate spellings and grammar. Texting is having shorthand conversation
without having a verbal knowledge. Texting can be seen as an entirely new language in itself
as it has its own words and spellings (Bock, et. al, 2015). It can be said that style of texting
can be a threat for the society as it has violated literacy and has also decreased the learning
habits. Texting is a creation of whole new language that creates their own rules and accepts
those ideas only. It spoils the moral and value by soiling the communication abilities. It is
seen that the mode of communication these days is through mobile gadgets that too by
texting, they communication in a causal language like they talk when they are face to face. It
has exploited the basis standard of a language as they used shortcuts i.e. while texting an
individual prefers to write ‘ppl’ instate of ‘people’ (Pasricha, Pathak & English, 2015). The
major fear here is that these shortcut spellings used by them can easily creep into their formal
writing styles (Siragusa, 2017). This have spoiled that formal writing habits as most of the
students write shortcuts or wrong spelling while giving exams. The main language is the
future of the society that has been killed as texting has given birth to highly abbreviated text
language. Texting has caused death of grammatical rules and as brought an informal mode of
communication. It is observed that many job applications, job letters or nay other important
documents are found written in text language, that is not at not professional (Yusaf, Khan &
Nazeer, 2015). Texting has caused an unprofessional environment at their work place; it is

one of the laziest approaches. It is observed that the one who has adopted text language on a
regular basis must bear in mind that such culture warriors are very much aware of its
presence and all the more likely to chastise those who employ it inappropriately (Behrens,
Johnson, Allard & Caroli, 2016). It changes the actual sense of language by using the
abbreviated way. It is said that texting actually is evidence of a balancing the act that young
people are using today but it is an expansion of their linguistic repertoire (Yusaf, Khan &
Nazeer, 2015). Texting is a form that allows a person to express them actual thoughts by
writing it in a very formal manner. It has changed the way of communication and has brought
advancement in technology (Pasricha, Pathak & English, 2015). Texting is an unstructured
way of communication between people that adds up complexity. Texting is a way for society
to communicate with their friends that is easy and convenient. Sometimes people do not have
time to write the entire word because they are in a hurry because of this they wanted to text
something but the word came out different which becomes their texting language which
might not have any significant meaning (Lefkowitz & Hedgcock, 2017).
Thus it can be concluded that, texting is killing language and has changed the overall culture
of the society. It has spoiled eth writing and reading habits of youngsters, as texting uses its
own style of language (Lefkowitz & Hedgcock, 2017). There are no standards or any
grammatical rules while communicating using texting language.
