INTRODUCTION
In present time, competitive business environment have become biggest issue for all
organizations. Due to globalisation and technical forces market competition has increased, also
they have arise new demands in marketplace. To cope up with such environment, organization
needs to hire those people who have high working skills and abilities (Leoni, 2012). To deal with
current challenges, business enterprises have started spending on workers and their efficiency. It
is highly important for managers to provide positive working environment to their employees so
that they can be retained in company for long time period. Ineffective working environment can
affect worker's efficiency and their level of performance. This project report is based on Kia
Motors which is second biggest auto-mobile manufacture of South Korea. This enterprise have
its branch in USA, where it is facing various problems regarding their human resources because
they are not satisfied with its organizational structure and workplace environment (Lewis and
Malecha, 2011). These issues are influencing substantial impact on workers as in frustration,
absenteeism, delay in work competition and so on. In this report, relation between work place
design and employee's efficiency has been evaluated. Along with this, impact of physical and
behavioural component on worker's productivity has also been determined.
Problem Statement
In modern world, due to globalisation and use of technology market competition has
increased. It has become more challenging for business enterprises to survive in competitive
marketplace. This project is focused on Kia motors and its current problems. Due to its
ineffective working environment and organisational structure, motivational level and
performance of its work force is continuously decreasing.
In USA, workers of Kia motors are not satisfied with their workplace design and
structure of company which is resulting in negative circumstances such as absenteeism,
frustration and time lag in task completion. All these problems are arising because enterprise is
not giving enough attention to employee's needs and also there is no good relationship between
superiors and subordinates. All these factors are continuously effecting worker's efficiency and
effectiveness. Hence, the main objective of this study is to find out the impact of organisational
structure on company's productivity.

Research aims and questions
Over all project report will revolve around three research questions which are follows as
under:
1. Relationship between company design and worker's efficiency?
2. Impact of physical component of organization on employee's productivity?
3. Impact of behavioural component of company on worker's performance?
Topic: Impact of workplace design on employee's efficiency
Aims and Objectives:
The main aim of this project report is to identify all those forces of workplace
environment which can influence impact on employee's productivity and performance
(Armstrong and et. al., 2014). The major objectives of this study are discussed below:
To determine relationship between organizational design and worker's efficiency
Impact of Physical factor of working environment on employee's productivity
Impact of Behavioural component of work place on worker's performance
LITERATURE REVIEW
Business enterprise can accomplish its desired goals and objectives only if its provides
better working environment to its workers. In simple words, effective work place design can
result in high profitability and productivity. In present time, most of organizations are designing
their work place as per the requirements of their human resources and their comfort zone so that
they will operate business functions in most effective and systematic manner. There are number
of factors which can influence impact on organizational efficiency and these are human
resources, technical forces and foremost objectives of company. All these factors can be
managed in systematic way, if there enterprise will have best workplace design. So, it can be said
that above mentioned all components largely depends upon organizational structure and working
environment.
Sustainable Report and its development
As per the consideration of (Armstrong), working environment is that requirement of
workers which help them in accomplishing organizational goals and objectives in most effective
manner. Also, it helps employees in performing business activities and practices effectively.
Further he said that, due to globalisation and technical forces competition of market has been

increased. To cooperate with such factors, it is highly important for managers to hire high skilled
people who can help them, in surviving in marketplace. So (Armstrong) suggested that, business
enterprise should make their employees satisfy by providing them best workplace design as per
their needs and demands. By doing this, company can exist in compete iv marketplace for long
time period and also can face any kind of market situation. By increasing job involvement, job
satisfaction, organizational commitment and employee turnover, organization can provide better
working environment to employees. All these component helps in determining emerging needs
and wants of workers.
According to (Bennett), Performance can be defined as behaviour which is done by
workers. It is totally different from outcomes. With the help of person's performance, outcomes
can be achieved. Apart form this, there some other factors are well which can assess results.
Further he stared that, performance of an individual is a substantive measure which helps in
determining perceptions and attitude of a person towards organizational product and service.
Data of subjective performance can be gathered by taking help of survey questionnaires. (Price)
stated that, productivity is the result of employee's efforts which is contributed in producing
anything. In simple words, productivity van be defined as the ratio that how well company have
transformed its inputs into outputs. Performance of worker can be determine by the quantity of
goods which he have produced per hour. Organisational efficiency can be increased if their is
less absenteeism and leaving breaks of employees. Therefore, this project will research on
influence of work place environment on worker's efficiency.
(Budziszewski) said that, after evaluating the significance of workplace environment,
almost all companies have started to provide better working conditions and organizational
structure to their employees so that they can operate business functions in most effective manner.
In simple words, by implementing new techniques company can build their office in a manner
which will be more effective to attract and retain workers for long time period, also it will lead
organization to higher level of success and growth.
Impact of Physical theory on workplace design
According to the expert person, in present scenario physical layouts has become central point for
all mangers because this can help them in increasing business performance and efficiency. In
2006, a research team of USA have conducted a research program work place design and their
3

possible impacts on employee's performance. As per the worker's point view, mangers does not
spend on workplace designs and they also does not consider employee's needs.
In modern world, all organisation are adapting new procedures and techniques so that
they can improve their company designs and also can increase their productivity. By spending
more of workplace environment, enterprise can attract a huge number of employees and also can
provide them better satisfaction. According to expert person, work place design is as important
as management process because it plays a major role in enhancing employee's efficiency and
productivity. According to (Blakstad), improved working environment can increase worker's
performance by 19 percent and organizational profit by 17 percent. All these increments can
result in economic growth as well, this research was conducted by some architects. To exist in
competitive market, enterprise needs to attract skilled employees and design professionals so that
company can achieve its goals in given time frame. In other words, there is huge relationship
between workplace design and employee's efficiency. Organisation structure is one of the most
important factor of business which can influence impact on job performance and gratification.
Impact of behavioural components on workplace design
(Andersen) stated that, there are some most essential factors such as noise, furniture,
comfort, communication level, lighting and air quality which also impact on organisational
productivity. Employee can not perform business functions in a noisy work environment. Lack
of privacy also affect efficiency of company. In most of workplaces, workers bear various
problems due to lighting. According to architects even some simple elements like proper
daylight and electricity can also increase level of absenteeism. Apart form this, temperature and
humid in workplace are another components which creates discomfort for workers. Even WHO
have made regulation for all companies to provide maximum 24 degree Celsius temperature in
work place. (Battini) stated that, according to employee's point of view they consider privacy as
a major factor which can effect their efficiency and productivity. By adding flowers and plants
into work place, men and women employees can innovate their thinking and also can resolve
business problems in effective manner because natural settings provides positive site to all kind
of people, it is a widely assumed fact. A study conducted on effect of colours stated that cool
colours influence positive impact on workers but warm colours can distract employees from
doing their work. So, it can be said that behavioural and physical components of workplace have
substantial impact of worker's efficiency as well as organizational productivity. So, it is highly

essential for all kind of business entities to spend on the physical and behavioural components of
work place so that efficiency of workers can be increased.
METHODOLOGY
Data collection techniques
There are different tools and techniques of research which is used by researcher to gather
required information. The major methodologies are follows as under:
Quantitative method: It is that technique of research which helps in gathering numerical
information. Data collected by this method can be transformed into useful statistics.
Mainly, this type of research is conducted to determine quantify behaviours, opinions,
attitudes and other variables. In this researcher get results by sampling large population.
In involves that information which can be measured and by them real facts can be
formulated (Smith, 2015). This method is more structures as compare to any other
research technique. While collecting information from quantitative method, researcher
takes help of online, paper and mobile surveys also, it includes longitudinal studies,
telephonic interviews, online polls and systematic observations.
Qualitative method: It is also known as primarily exploratory research. Basically, this
method is used to interpret underlying motivations, opinions and reasons. With the help
of this technique, researcher can deeply understand the problem and can develop
appropriate ideas to resolve them. Also, it helps in determining trends in opinions,
thought and problems. It includes structured and semi structured techniques. In this
people conduct their research by taking individual interviews, observing, participating
and focusing on a particular group. In involves a small population and fulfils given quota
by selecting few number of respondents. In this research, this method has been chosen to
conduct research (Smith, 2013).
Research design
Before conducting any research it is very much important for researcher to make
effective planing so that, they can conduct their investigation in proper and systematic manner.
In this tasks of research are summarised in most effective manner. In present research, first of all
aims and objectives have been evaluated along with research questions. After that in literature
review, thoughts and views of different authors has been determined to collect sufficient
5

information about research topic. For conducting research, qualitative method has been chosen
so that researcher can gather accurate and required information about employees. After getting
enough information, researcher will analysis those data and give justified recommendation. All
these steps will help in conducting successful research report (Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault,
2015).
While conducting research, researcher choose a effective technique so that he can collect
data in appropriate manner (Data Collection Techniques, 2017). In present research, qualitative
method has been chosen through which he can collect data by primary and secondary sources. In
primary research, data is gathered by conducting surveys in which many questions are asked to
respondents to get accurate data, but it is a time and money consuming process. On the other side
in secondary method, data is collected by second sources such as books, journals, newspapers,
magazines etc. So, in present research, secondary technique is used to gather required
information. This method is more convenient as compare to primary method. In this, researcher
can directly interacts with employees and can evaluate their needs and demands regarding
workplace. Because without providing good working environment, organization can not increase
its organizational efficiency.
Data analysis
It is a process which is used by researcher to evaluate data . With the help of this, people
can collect important information and on the basis of that can make effective decisions. As, in
this research qualitative data has been utilised so for analysing qualitative data there is a process
which is divided into different steps. First of all, rehearser should transcribe all the collected
information then organise all data, after organising them he should make notes of the facts which
he drawn from secondary resources (Liamputtong, 2013). At last, he should examine those facts
so that he can increase his knowledge and learning. Service provider and manufacturing
company are the main areas on which research has been conducted. This study will help in
presenting comparison of both sectors. According to their working environment, results would
be prepared.

FINDINGS
Descriptive Statistic
Descriptive statistics is that concept which helps in describing and summarizing collected
information by qualitative method. It is totally different from internarial statistics. In this data is
gathered by summarising a sample instead of covering large populations. It is not developed by
the probability theory.
(Source: Hoskins, 2014)
According to above mentioned graph, organization with satisfied employee are prove as
more successful. So, every enterprise consider interests, comfort and needs of their workers
otherwise they can not accomplish their organizational goals and objectives.
Statistical method
Whole research would be based on impact of workplace design on employee's efficiency.
Also, in this research relationship between working environment and worker's performance has
been evaluated. This is analyse by dependent and independent variables. In this research,
multiple Regression has been used to identify relationship betwixt one dependent and several
independent variables. So, statistical method would be prove as most important aspect of over all
research because without this researcher can not achieve results (A Bennett and et. al., 2012).
Further, comparison between service and manufacturing sector also helps in observing impact of
work place and employee's performance. By taking help of One-Way ANOVA technique would

be helpful in comparing the two and more than two populations. By evaluating this research,
many results has been found by researcher. There are huge number of strengths and limitations
of this research.
The biggest advantage of this study is that it would help Kia motors in identifying impact
of workplace design on employee's performance. Now this company will consider worker's
importance from new perspectives. All this happen just because of revealing the importance of
working environment within work place. On the other side, the biggest limitation of this research
is that it is a time and money consuming process (Sauver and et. al.,2012). Also, it requires a
very large sample size so that researcher will get accurate information. So, to cover such a big
population is not an easy task. By conducting this research it is evaluated that every business
organization should should provide good working environment to their workers so that they will
feel comfortable while operating business activities and practices.
DISCUSSION
Discuss Findings
After conducting research on the topic of impact on workplace environment on
employee's performance it has been determined that organizational structure should be structured
as per the needs and requirements of employee otherwise they will not operate their duties and
responsibilities in most effective manner. Business enterprise should provide right temperature,
lighting in the work place so that there will be no problems for workers. In tradition time,
companies did not consider their workers as important as their management process but in
modern world, all organizations consider their human resources as most expensive capital
because without them, organizational goals and objectives can not be achieved (Larson and
Gray, 2013).
Human resources are the most important factors of company which can lead it on higher
level of success. Due globalisation and technology advancement, current market place has
become highly competitive for Kia motors. This company is losing its financial profit because its
does not have high skilled labours. Existing employees of this company are also not satisfied
with its work place that is why they do not produce high results. They face daily work related
problems because of poor lighting, ineffective organizational structure and less attractive offices
designs. All these problems results in, high absenteeism, employee frustration and delay in task
8
Document Page
completion. All these aspects are continuously decreasing market share of Kia motors. To
resolve all these problems it should give core attention to its workers and their needs so that will
gets motivated and contribute more in accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives.
By considering different needs and demands of workers, business mangers can provide better
satisfaction to them and also can retain them for long time period. But all this can happen if it
will spends upon its office design or infrastructure (Bell, 2014). Also, Kia motors can increase
employee involvement and empowerment this can result in high financial profit and less
operational cost. Hence, workplace design is significant as management process of cited
company. Without facilitating working environment and condition, organization can not increase
its efficiency and effectiveness. Organization can increase its performance only if it will increase
performance of its work force. Because they are the only person who can increase organizational
profitability and productivity.
Also, there are some ethical issues has been found by conducting this research. Some of
them are follows as under:
This research will totally depend on the Principe of voluntary participation and
observation.
Required information will be collected from the informed consent of respondents.
There will be full privacy for respondents and also they are not restricted by anything so
that will provide their own opinions and thoughts.
Hence, these were the some ethical issues which will be added in this research and
researcher would give core attention to those points while conducting research.
CONCLUSION
Conclusion
By evaluating this project report, it has been evaluated that working environment and conditions
affects employee's efficiency and effectiveness within organization. Effective work place design
can increase level of employee motivation and also can satisfy their comfort needs. By analysing
gathered information it can be determined that workplace environment and condition influence a
substantial impact on worker's productive ability.

Research questions
In this report relationship between workplace design and worker's performance has been
evaluated. Also, impact on physical as well as behavioural components on workplace has been
determined.
Limitations
The biggest limitation of Kia motors is that it is facing various problems due to dissatisfaction of
its employees. They are not satisfied with work place design.
Recommendation
All the factors such as lighting, temperature, office design, Humidity, natural settings all of them
have a huge impact on employee's performance. So, it is recommendation that Kia Motors
should give core attention to to design organizational structure as per the needs and requirements
of its employees by doing this it can provide high satisfaction to its work force. According to
some expert persons, managers should weight to the plants and flowers because they provide
positive vibes to workers which help them in thinking in innovative way. Also, it helps them in
resolving business problems as well. If company will have good work place design then it will
results in high performance and growth of company. So, it can be said that employee are more
worthy as compare to any other component of business organization. Design professionals of
company should make sure that they make use that furniture which are convenient for employees
while operating organizational activities and practices.
