as a therapy among the refugees who have faced long-term gender inequality.

One of the significant actions that must be considered in the refugee camps is to bring
equality in gender by spreading the awareness of it. It will help in bringing better protection for
the returnees, refugees and the stateless and to those who can be considered to be the people who
are dislocated internally. Men, women, boys, and girls must be given equal opportunities to bring
about equality in gender (Kalogeraki 22). Engaging them in the activities of sports is the best

considered to be the main barriers for women refugees in the role of decision-making and in
acquiring managerial positions. This is, however, related to that of equal rights, gender

a fundamental right but also it is a symbol of a prosperous world. It can be reported that in every

1. Theory of Economic Development: To develop an unbiased and discrimination-free
society, it is very much needed to develop the society economically. When any country
will be developed in terms of its economic value the country will automatically step
toward the modernisation. If the per capita income of a country increases it leads to an
increased GDP of that country (Kalogeraki 22). When the GDP of that country will be
higher, the developmental fields of that country will be modified. More participation of
women in any field may seen as per need of the country's development. Along with an
increasing economy, all other factors of socio-cultural development will be modernised.
2. Theory of cultural development: A positive social and cultural development can be
worked as a major factor in growing the moral ethics among people. Developmental
cultural practices can express the cultural value of people. On doing ethical practises the

country as a whole. Modernisation in educational sectors can provide the proper
knowledge of women empowerment (Neag 259). Only when a society will be educated
properly, the discrimination can be removed. Establishment of schools, colleges for
women can increase the literacy rate of women. Equal involvement of male and females
in educational institution is a symbol of gender equality.
4. Involvement of women in research and developmental field: It is very much necessary
that the women should equally involve in the field of research and development. Recently
it was reported that the European Union is inspiring women to join into to research and
developmental work for the sake of gender equality (Alcalde et al. 243-269). Though

is also a matter of concern. Providing all the necessary security to the women it is to be

these initiatives regarding involvement of more women in sports have been taken by the
higher authority of the board of sports, the feasible result cannot be seen that much
widely in the grass-root level. All the advantages and priority is given to the phenomenon
of the up-gradation of the number of participation of women in sports are very much
appreciable. By destroying the barrier of discrimination the fortune of a country of sports
can bring.
From all the points discussed above, it can be seen that the application of gender
equality is needed in all the field of development. By taking an appropriate level of
consideration and by utilising the useful effects of all the steps taken one country can
achieve the level of success. And the problem of gender inequality can be solved. Those
above-mentioned approaches are implementing by many developed countries nowadays.

2.5. Importance of Sports in bringing Gender Equality
Gender equality was always a matter of discussion in the field of sports. The participation
of women in sports is very less as compare to the men. In considering the necessity of gender
equality the international Olympic committee has taken some positive steps since the year 1996.
Though this step plays a huge role in the participation of women in sports, still it is not being
implemented properly in the ground level. In a case study, it was reported that sports can play an
important role in bringing gender equality. In many countries, it can be seen that sports can uplift
the voice of women by avoiding the chain of discrimination. “History says that in the year 1900
in the event of Olympic only 22 women participated in 5 sports out of 997 athletes” (Hou et al.
111-133). After that, the participation is increasing day by day and the current scenario says that
the women are taking the lead in the comparison of male in the potential growth of any sports.
And the discrimination regarding gender has been almost gone to the shower of talent and
hardworking. Along with the development of social and economical field of a country, sports
have become an undivided part of any country.

authority pays equal attention to both of the gender. Though in the bottom level or some local
area still the discrimination can be seen but in a major scale it can be said that sports plays a huge
role to remove discrimination. In the year 2015, the European Union has launched a new law
regarding the equality between male and female in sports (Filippidou et al. 17-29). Sports can
play a significant role among children. It increases the ability of teamwork and increase the
power of understanding. Participation in any sports can help to create a social as well as cultural
harmony to people of different culture and caste. By interaction with the people of various
cultures a mixture of colours of culture can be seen that leads to a way of open-mindedness
thoughts. It can be seen that taking part in any sports can help in building a mature level of
understanding regarding the fact gender equality among children as well as adults.

4.2 Thematic Analysis
4.2.1 Sporting Events pave the way for the refugees to develop a social well-being
Sports always help the people to build a good social life by making friends with others. If
some people play together regularly they may be friends and help each other in need. Similarly,
if some people enjoy matches together or go to watch matches together then they can be friends
and share personal issues by being friends. By organizing sports events, the social situation can
be developed as it needs funds. If the government pays attention in a refugee place and invests
money to organize some events then it will be helpful to develop the financial and social
conditions of that place (Lyamouri-Bajja 45). Often it can be seen that some ransom money has
been announced as a prize. This will attract people to motivate themselves for some good things.
People will participate in that to achieve money and it will be beneficial for their skill. Not only
this, this type of programme will help people to socialize with others. They will participate
together, practice together and play together maybe with other unknown people. But these people
will be friends and build social relations with each other. The best players may get a chance to
play at state-level or in national level which will bring good luck for their families also.
4.2.2 Sporting Events boosts the opportunity for the deprived individuals to develop a
strong mental stability
If anyone has any mental issues for any pressure whether it is for social or financial
reasons, sports can be very useful. Sports are for physical exercise. Whether a person runs, walk,
jump, swim, and throw for any kind of play, it will rejuvenate the physical activities. Sports not
only boost stamina or power of a person, but it also improves one’s mood and increase mental
stability. Refugees’ cannot have the guts to talk with others due to lack of self-confidence as they
have the fear to be neglected (Pajic et al. 159-172). But if one can indulge oneself in a physical
activity then it will boost self-confidence and self-esteem also. Sports have numerous positive
effects on mental health. According to the survey, studies say that in Australia, individuals who
participate in the games more like 1 or 4 times a week, they are more fit now. Their mental
distress decreased by 35% from before.

4.2.3 Gender Equality within the refugees allow them to empower their outlook and
develop a strong sense of responsibility
Gender equality is important for the entire society. If there is gender equality then men
women can do all works together. Women can get respect which they deserve. Refugees have
many problems. One of them is women’s power which is not enough. In their society, refugees
have no special education so they do not know how to respect others. They do not have proper
knowledge that is why they try to dominate the women and to do that they often insult women.
But if there is proper education on gender equality then they will know respect women. Men may
know to be responsible (Chatziefstathiou et al. 871-884). They will learn how to respect women
if there is gender equality. They will not blame the women for each and everything and will take
the responsibility if anything wrong happens. Equality in gender will change their perspectives.
They will change their outlook. They will allow the women to take participation in anything they
want.

Chapter 5: Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations
5.1 Summary
To summarize these things, it can be easily said that respect for every gender is
important. If there is gender equality in society then not only women, but also every other gender
will get desired respect which they deserve. Women can participate in every game where they
want. They will not be stopped anymore. Men will learn to become more moderate. They will
learn to make new friends. They will learn to socialize also. They will share things with others.
They will be interdependent in others also. If there is any problem then man can solve them
instead of blaming the women. Not only the women but also the transgender will get the respect
which they deserve. The society does not have respect to show on transgender but when society
will become gender taboo-free, it means the society will become more respectful towards others.
Sports events will help in these things. A man, woman, transgender can participate in the
games. If it is a group game, then man woman and transgender will play together with each
other. They will share emotions. They will play together. They will take coaching together. They
will enjoy together. They will make friend together. They will sit together also. Thus a society
will be developed. Perspectives will be changed. It will stop objectifying some people also by
their genders. If anyone cannot do anything then other people will help.
Sports not only develop society but also it increases people’s intelligence. A person who
practises a lot, is mentally stable more than a person who does not do this. Sports boost mental
ability to think correctly. It makes the body fit. It succumbs the anger and wrath. It will melt the
body fat and by this person will become more interested to play games.

5.2 Conclusion
To conclude this it is important to understand what gender equality to be done in the
society is. Gender equality will help the society to be established more powerfully. If in a society
man woman get equal respect then they will be happy and can get equal chances to do things
together. They can participate in the games and play this. They will get food, homes to stay and
can win prizes for showing talents in the games. They will be respected by others.
Outdoor games people a lot to exercise. The games like volleyball, basketball, run help to
melt body fat and keep body fit. Physical exercise can be stress buster greatly. Studies prove that
if people who do physical exercise and play sports a lot, those persons have less anxiety and
depression. So sports are very much important for the refugees as they have social and mental
pressure. If older people can indulge themselves in the sports then they will be happy. They can
pass their times also. There is a reciprocal relationship between mental issues and social
relationships. Sports will reduce mental stress and help to build social relations with others.
Group games help people to bond among themselves. It gives the people the essence of
belonging in a large family. This can be very helpful for people who suffer from loneliness and
mental issues. That can be solved by the games. There is a social benefit of the games as they
reduce mental health issues. Competitive games can also be depression cutter. Sports events
where people can participate can reduce loneliness as it demands concentration on the games
only. Sports have the power to control one’s emotions, stress, fear, joy and relationship with
others.
5.3 Recommendations
It is highly recommended to observe and practice gender equality in all areas. The
equivalence in the genders leads to make a good society with equality. Men, women, transgender
can get equal things which they deserve and require to live. Sports events may be organized
regularly as refugees have only these things to reduce their mental pressure. Sports also needed
for socializing. People will learn to share things and emotions. For coaching, they will live
together in a coaching camp, share food and learn new things together which will bring in the
ability to socialize.

On a sporting event, they will participate together for a game. They will play together.
They will share skills and techniques. After winning or losing a game, they will share emotions
too. This will strengthen their bonding among them. The players will learn to be friends with
unknown people too. The government will help them too. Prize money or things will be
announced for the best players. They will get these and it will be helpful for their family too. The
government will help the best players also. They will get coaching in a good place and it will
increase the power of skills to play.
The outdoor games like volleyball, basketball etc are group games. Outdoor games help
people a lot to exercise and socialize correctly. Outdoor games need a group of people to play.
This will be helpful to make new friends. Outdoor games keep physically fit. It will change the
outlook of the people. These are group games so it will help them to shoulder the responsibilities
as a group person. They will change the perspectives of life. Group games will help them to be
mentally fit too. A lot of skills, techniques are required for these types of games. So if anyone
has this skill, it may be shared by that person with other people to win a game. So whenever
people meet with other people and make a group they may be happy to make new friends as
well. If all the people under different genders can get equal chances to play then it will help them
to reduce the differences among them.
