Background to research topic.
Motivation is seen as the inner drive, which is promotes people to act in a way either
towards achieving their personal goals and organizational goals in effective manner. It is the
experience of desire or aversion from something wants in effective manner. This is very
important and effective part of employee’s life. This help to achieve and reach company and
organizational goals by giving more efforts on work if they are properly motivated for work.
Currently a more and main concern of organization is to increase their profits and customers
satisfaction (Glesne, 2016). These organizations, to achieve goals, they are generally organized
training and development program and send to them for awareness sessions as their main assets
of the organization. Employees are considered only input to the production of business. But they
are not just an asset of company they are a hard contributor and affective factors for business
production. Furthermore, the research will found that employees are not motivated by money and
employee behaviour is linked to their attitudes.
Overview of organization.
For the present research project organization has been select i.e. Barclays bank, to
investigate the importance of motivation and its effect on employee performance and business
productivity. Now a day's banking sector is on the higher growth and various employees are
work for achieving goals and objectives of company is in the effective manner. The Barclays
bank is the British multinational investment bank and financial service providers in London.
They operate four core businesses: personal banking, corporate banking, wealth management and
investment management is in the effective manner . Bank organized various operations within
the two businesses clusters: corporate and investment banking as well as retail and business
banking. The company have 79900 employees who are completely responsible for manage
operations and handle customers investment and wealth queries in effective manner.
Research rationale.
The main reason to selecting importance of motivation and its effect on employees
performance and productivity in company is that it is the current topic which is going in the
environment. The reason to select this topic is the personal interest of the researchers. The

researcher personally wanted to know about the concept of motivation for job satisfaction
company and how this effect to employee performance and business productivity. Another
reason to select this topic which is help to another researcher who are want to get knowledge
about motivation for banking sector employees and its needs (Kumar, 2019). This help to
increase job satisfaction by motivating employees in effective manner.
Aims and Objectives.

To investigate different methods and theories of motivation.
To evaluate the impact of motivation theory on employees' performance and productivity
of Barclays bank.
To recommend some ways to motivate employees in business.

The concept of motivation.
Walliman (2017) stated that the motivation means a process of stimulating people to
action which accomplish desired goods and goals of life. The motivated employees will help to
increase capability of organization to achieve mission, objectives and goals. It is also engaged all
the peoples together for building strong organizational culture by making effective efforts.
Motivated employees will feels as having a strategic planning and partnership with the
organization and their commitments and loyalty will increase from day to day. The loyal
employees are always ready to give hard contribution for achieve goals and objectives of
company in effective manner. On the other side Herzberg (2017), defined as motivation gives a

efforts in innovation. This leads to a productive with the highest performance employee who are
the best and effective in the work. The happy employees are always kept smile on face and make
various efforts in company for achieving goals and objectives in effective manner. The motivated
employees impact on company and its bottom line and make the workplace somewhere
employees look forward to interacting with instead of just a place to pick up pay check.
Different methods and theories of motivation.
There are different theories and methods of motivation which are help to motivate
employees for giving hard contribution in work. As per the view of the Wentzel (2017), Maslow
– hierarchy of need theory is best and effective to motivate employees. This help to motivate
employees and people by satisfying their daily basic needs. This considers various elements as
physiological needs, safety and security, Belongingness, esteem and self-actualization needs of
employees. Wlodkowski and Ginsberg (2017) cited to Wentzel (2017), stated that two factor
theory of motivation has best to motivate employees. That includes two factors like hygiene and
motivators. This explains various factors of motivate employees by identifying their needs and
desires in effective manner. This theory is explained the factors which are help to motivate
employees in effective manner. On the other side, Quinlan and et.al. (2019) stated that the ERG
theory is best for motivate employees at workplace in effective manner. This divided into three
classes of needs like existence needs which includes safety and belongingness needs of
employees that are complete basic needs. The relatedness which includes aspiration individuals
have for maintaining significant interpersonal relationships. At the end, here is includes growth
of self development and personal growth and advancement.

According to the Ryan and Deci (2017), praise is one of admire individuals is the most
commonly ways of motivating employees. Motivation theory is give positive impact on
employees by providing mental motivation to people. This creates healthy work environment at
workplace. Employees work harder when they are recognized and appreciated for their efforts
for workplace. This also attendees from the different seminars about the motivation agreed that
praise is most important thing when motivating employees within the organization because
through that employees are highly motivated in effective manner. In contradict Deckers (2018),
stated that the salary, payment and allowances are best to motivate employees. Introducing
individual pay and increase productivity of company and business because of motivated

effective growth of employees in proper manner. Through that employees are fulfilled their
needs by purchasing those from market.

Research methodology is the specific process of technique which is used to identify,

able to critically evaluate a study and overall validity and reliability in effective manner. This
creates more effectiveness for researcher to understand values.

quantity and calculation part. So, that researcher will select the qualitative techniques to gain
information about the importance of motivation in employee’s performance in effective manner.

This is the undertaking development towards research assumptions and knowledge.
Therefore, the research philosophies has divided into: interpretivism, epistemology, positivism
and ontology. For the present, researcher will use interpretivism to interpret the factors related to
topic which is importance of motivation and its impact on employee performance and business
productivity.
Research approach:
Research approach is the planed process which is help to detailed explanation of data
collection, analysis and interpretation. Thus, research approach is classified into the various
categories as the inductive and deductive (Mackey and Gass, 2015). Whereas, researcher will

researcher will randomly select 20 managers of Barclays bank for investigate the importance of
motivation in employees life.

subject topic in effective manner. In this present research researcher will select thematic analysis
to interpret data (Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault, 2015). In this researcher will conduct interview
by asking related questions with 20 respondents.

The ethical consideration is specified one most important parts of the research. This is
important for researcher to maintain ethical behaviour towards respondents and duration of
research. Researcher will have to protect information and privacy to respondents. Here is
research must ensure to get the consent forms which is signed by the respondent before asking
question with them. This will give positive impact on respondent mind in effective manner. Also,
the researcher will ensure about the data collection source by selecting authentic sources and not
from any unauthentic sources.
