INTRODUCTION
Business communication refers to the communication relating to business activity which
is related to goods and services and is of commercial benefit. It is a process through which
information, facts, ideas, decision etc. are being conveyed or exchange between the persons
associated to the business. The present report will reflect the importance of communication
skills required for managing effective interaction in business. Different challenges and ways to
improve communication will also be discussed in report.
1. Crucial aspects of business communication.
During professional communication module, I have identified that good communication
skills are not only important in personal but are also crucial in workplace. Regardless of types of
company. It is very essential for me to communicate effectively with superiors, colleagues and
staffs for which I learnt some of crucial aspect of professional communication. As per my
analysis, there are certain skills that are crucial in business communication. They are as follows:
Listening: For being a good communicator it is essential for the person to be a good
listener. As per the study, I have analysed that in order to become a good communicator
I have to practice listening skills to properly understand and convey back them my ideas
and thoughts (Bovee and Courtland, 2012). Active listening involves paying close
attention to what the other person is saying, asking queries etc. to support discussion.
Non-verbal communication: It includes body language, hand gestures, eye contact, etc.
For example, interacting with seniors or colleagues with eye contact reflects confidence
and demonstrate sense of connect among two people when interacting.
Confidence: For effective business communication, it is very important for me to be
confident while interacting with others. It shows the person has strong control over
information, knowledge and own ideas.
2.The challenges in business communication.
I have identified that there are certain challenges and barriers that can affect the
communication at workplace. Some of the challenges in business communication are:
Diversity: I have seen that, workplace with diverse workforce usually faces the problem
of communication (Locker and Kienzler, 2013). Employees from different nationality, religion,

age face differences in their way of communication which becomes challenging (The
Challenges of Business Communication, 2019). I have seen that employees from different
nations have different way of expressing their ideas, and opinions. Moreover, the biggest
challenge of working with diverse workforce is difference in language and accent which is
biggest hurdle to effective communication.
Distance: I have identified that regardless of the technology, distance is a great challenge
for the companies which restrict effective communication. The barrier to distance business
communication is time. and cultural diversity which leads to language barriers and time which
impact interest of two communicating parties. Also, digital business communication sometimes
leads to lack of attention, interest and distractions.
3. Different ways to improve the quality of communication.
I have analysed from my task that there are different ways through which I can improve
my business communication skills. They are:
I can improve my business communication skills by working on my body language,
gestures and eye-contact as it reflects confidence and sense of connect when interacting
at workplace.
Honest feedbacks regarding my communication skills from my peers, manager, team
member is another way to improve my communication quality (Cotton and Falvey,
2012).
The best way to improve business communication skills is through practising my
listening skills as it encourages communication.
CONCLUSION
By summing up the above report, it can be concluded that effective business
communication is crucial in order to get success in career.
