INTRODUCTION
Healthcare is a term used to describe taking care of someone who needs care. People who
are experiencing mental or health issues and are not able to fulfil their needs themselves,
they urge to take help and support from external agencies who avail proper health support
and care to them. Principles of healthcare are very basic and the result should be a proper
delivery of healthcare to the service user. In given scenario, an agency named Fleetwood
Hall Home is working for the betterment of such individuals by providing them healthcare
and support. The issues with Fleetwood Hall Home have been brought to light by inspection
by CQC. To overcome these service issues and improve the quality of services delivered at
care home following steps to be taken are discussed below.

1.1 Principles of support are applied to ensure that individuals are cared
for.
Providing proper care and support is an essential part of health and social care. Efficient and
satisfactory services to consumer and individuals who require such support is the aim of any
care home. Providing the residents support they require and a protected environment to
ensure their safety and well-being is a basic principle of health care. Basic principles are
prepared and monitored according to the society expectancy which includes equality, the
dignity of residents, protection from abuse or harm, safety, social justice, healthy and safe
environment, confidentiality and trustfulness (Gillon& Lloyd, 1994).Every individual at care
home should work independently and in a team to avail the resident proper services they
need. Thumb rule for following these principles is the satisfactory results of the care
granted. Recovery of disabled individuals mentally, physically as well as socially is a part of
healthcare. At Fleetwood Hall Home same principles and employee training for same should
be carried on so that the service quality of the care home will enhance and reach the
expected standards.
1.2 Procedures that are adopted to protect clients and colleagues from
harm.
Safety is a chief necessity of every resident in Fleetwood care home. To assure clients and
colleagues safety, health care home has to take various measures into consideration. These
measures will vary from implementation of policies to availability of emergency measures to
clients themselves.

A person-centred approach is one where a patient is the centre of focus while delivering
healthcare. Fulfilling client's needs, wishes and expectations is what a person-centred
approach aims for. In today's era, patient-oriented care planning and healthcare is what
every healthcare home follows. Fleetwood Hall Home should follow the same person-
oriented approach as it is very beneficial to enhance the quality and service efficiency of a
care home. It leads to client satisfaction with better results and feedbacks. Taking care of
the patient as the most important member of the healthcare team and trying to give him a
proper safe and protected environment with the kind of support and help expected is the
goal to achieve. As seen in the case history patients at care home are not satisfied with the

1.4 Ethical dilemmas and conflicts that may arise while delivering
healthcare.
Ethical dilemmas are the confusions occurring to a care worker while delivering healthcare.
Where on one hand some situation may occur where he has to choose between the policies
and principles of healthcare and patients belief and whims. When such situation occurs it is
hard for a care worker to reach a proper decision which will not violate healthcare rules and
even maintain the dignity and rights of the patient (Kälvemark et al, 2004). In given scenario
with Mrs Y who is a patient of Alzheimer's letting her not wear the transit strap will help in
gaining her satisfaction but will violate her righteous treatment. Injury to her due to her
stubbornness will lead to questioning the credibility of care workers decision whereas not
listening to her will add to the violation of human rights. Such cases are challenging for a
care worker so proper training and guidance should be provided to workers to overcome
such dilemmas (Nix, 1997). Another instance of Mrs X states her disability in learning but
she is conscious enough to take her decisions while her inspection every time hampers her
privacy. A care worker, in this case, should be efficient enough to listen to her complaint and

find a solution and discuss the following choices with her to let her sense the same care and
importance which is given to other residents.

2.1 Implementation of policies, legislation and code of practices those are
relevant to own workplace.
To deliver efficient quality services to the users at care home policies and legislation are of
great use and help. Implementation of national and local policies and code of practices are
essential for the smooth and satisfactory working of an organization. Government provide a
various set of rules to be followed by the agencies and its workers to ensure proper health
and service to individuals seeking it. At Fleetwood Hall, such legislation and policies should
be implemented for improved services and handling of the issues faced in the current
scenario. Employees should be acknowledged about these policies and should be enforced
to work according to the legislation. Violation of any rules may cause adverse effects for
workers and should be informed about. Any act of negligence or crossing of limits in
accordance with these rules will lead to the firing of staff member involved. Keeping proper
records of residents and safeguarding them is what leads to induction of trust in service
users. Legislation helps in allowing employees to follow a blueprint of rules to improve and
give best services possible. Maintaining patient's respect and even respect for workers is
another aspect which policies make sure of (Holloway & Galvin, 2016).

policies.
NHS has provided different laws to be implemented as-
1. Safety regulations, which include safety from hazardous material and also from anything
that can cause harm.
2. Appointees are appointed to take in charge of the financial billing and assets of the
residents it can be relative or friend.
3. Trust comes into action when some residents have a lot amount of money and then trusts
handle those assets and take charge.
4. Policies to be promoted for maintaining the dignity of patient and privacy.
5. Mental capacity act, 2005 and Health and Social care act, 2012 should be enforced and
promoted.
6. The Data Protection Act, 1998 should be maintained to provide privacy and confidentiality
to patient’s records.
7. Food and nutrition act, 2008 should be followed for proper nutrition and quality food.
8. The Care Act, 2014 can be promoted to ensure proper care of liable individuals.
Local policies for a workplace should be made in accordance with the national policies to
ensure its proper implementation and working (Whitehead, 1991).
2.3 Impact of policies and codes of ethics on policies and practices at

Policies and procedures implemented at a care home have a great impact on its working and
efficiency. Efficient quality service production is a result of following these policies. The aim
is to enhance the nutritional support to patients and comfort in accordance with their needs
and whims. Maintaining a basic blueprint to be followed for every individual at a care home
will ensure equality and righteous treatment and support. Policies help in reducing error in
healthcare and increases accuracy. Codes of practices help individual to gain rights and
dignity one seeks for. Promoting and protecting patient's dignity is an important aspect

3.1 Theories that underpin health and social care practices at Fleetwood
hall.
Theories help in understanding the pattern of needs a resident has and how to follow the
work ethics to attain those needs. Following these theories will help in getting social,
physical, mental and spiritual support for the patient. One such theory is Maslow hierarchy
of needs; according to Maslow, every individual has specific needs which are differentiated
into deficit needs and special needs. He proposed a plan with five levels where there are
different needs and to move to another level first the previous level should be fulfilled.
Physiological needs being the basics following safety needs, love and belongingness need,
needs for esteem and self-actualization needs (McLeod, 2007).

Another theory of importance is Human growth and development theory given by Erickson
which states that in different levels of life and ages of life aspects of love care and belonging
has to be fulfilled. Life stages were described into 8 specific ages which will have different

management are to be concerned about.

These theories help in managing the behaviour of residents at the care home and also
improving the services given. At Fleetwood Home taking in consideration these theories, the
mentally ill patients are given support and help according to basic needs of life and old age

home.
3.2 Impact of social processes on service users.
A human being is a social animal and cannot lead his life in isolation. A person requires
socialization and support to lead a healthy and happy life. It is seen that people having
better social interaction and support recovers faster than whom lead their life isolated.
Social processes usually have positive effects on individuals, people find warmth and
support from other people by sharing their ideologies and opinions and also people with

same illness can connect well to attain a healthy relationship. At Fleetwood home, social
interacting discussion groups and meeting should be held for residents to get a better
support and understanding and positivity that will help them in recovering fast and adds to

known as multi-disciplinary working which describes the involvement of various
professionals like doctors, nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists
etc. An interaction between these professionals and effective planning will lead to proper
delivery of services (Clements et al, 2007). Treatment planning and care planning should be
done by taking the response from each healthcare worker involved in the team of an
individual. This will decrease any errors and non-compliances possible in healthcare delivery
and also will increase the efficiency of the care plan. Facilities to service user are given
effectively when all the professionals follow come together and work together approach. If
any person in the team will be less efficient it will be overcome by the skills of another team
worker. By this approach personal differences between the workers and professional
disturbances will also decrease leading to the improved working of an organization. The
positive working environment will be available and healthy relationships between co-
workers will be attained. Training should also be provided for others working in the
healthcare setting to how to behave with patients and take care of resident's integrity
(Hudson, 2002).
