REFLECTION
A feedback is received from 360 degree personal and professional effectiveness assessment
tool. This feedback has been explored below using the reflection account of NMC revalidation.
In this reflection account, nature of the feedback as well as learnings and improvement from the
feedback is also analysed.
Reflection account:
What was the nature of the practice related feedback in your practice?
A feedback form was provided to the patient which has total of 23 questions. All these questions
were optional and were related with my effectiveness and efficiency which I showcased while
providing care to my patient. As a nurse, the most important feedback which I can receive is the
satisfaction of patients. There are typically three types of feedback which are evaluation,
appreciation and coaching. All these feedback types are different from one another. In the case of
Evaluation, the nature of the feedback is to evaluate and analyse the efficiency of nurse and to
identify how effective the nurse is while taking care of the patient. The second kind of feedback
is appreciation; such feedback includes questions which can present the appreciation of nurses.
And lastly, the coaching feedback includes responses which can provide information to
employees or in this case to nurses about what they can do better while taking care of the patient
(Shin and et.al., 2020).
The feedback which I have received from a patient is of evaluation nature. In this feedback, the
patient has answered a total of 23 questions about my behaviour of the him/her. The feedback
form was clearly designed for patients as it had four options for each questions such as Poor,
OK, Good and Excellent which patients can easily provide.
The practice related feedback was of evaluation nature as it provides evaluation on my qualities
of being a nurse and also evaluated my efficiency of performing my duties at work. The
feedback is also exploratory in nature as by this I am able to analyse my strengths and
weaknesses and the skills which are needed to be worked on.
What did you learn from the feedback in your practice?
The practice related feedback which I received has resulted in providing me various insights
about my strengths and weaknesses. There are various learnings which I gained from the
feedback and they are stated in below points:
ï‚· From the feedback I received, it has helped me to learn that I am quite responsible when

it comes to seek learning opportunities and safeguarding others. This learning has made
me realised that this quality will help me in assisting a senior doctor more professionally.
ï‚· Another learning which I have gained from the received feedback is that I am unable to
support my patients emotionally but when it comes to taking an active part in helping
their care delivery, I am regrading as good. I think, this is the most valuable learning
which I have gained from the feedback as it shows patients seek emotional support which
I can try in future references.
ï‚· Another learning gained from the feedback which can help me in improving my nursing
practice is my communication. According to the patients, I am unable to effectively
communicate with them and even I face difficulty while providing relevant information
to the patients.
ï‚· This learning presents a positive feedback about myself. According to the patients, I am
excellent in showing care and compassion towards the patients. By this learning, I can
aim for effectively continuing my caring spirit and provide compassion to the patients.
ï‚· I have also learned that, patients think I am highly professional and always shows curtsey
to ask how they are feeling and even make them feel safe. But they also feel that I am
unable to encourage them in making decisions and also holds average competency when
it comes to seek their views and wishes.
How did you change or improve your practice as a result?
The practice related feedback which I have received has helped in gaining various insights about
my strengths and weaknesses. Using these learnings, I can make various changes that can help in
improving my practice as a result. Changes which I have made and I intend to make are stated
and analysed below:
ï‚· From the feedback received, I have learned that I am unable to communicate with my
patients effectively and the problem is even more serious as according to them I am
unable to communicate relevant information to them which can even impact of their care
procedure. In order address this weakness, I intent to follow a certain procedure while
communication. In this procedure, I will first communicate all the relevant information to
the patient and then I will ask them to repeat that information and will ask them to reply
whether they understand my communicated information or not. By this I can improve my
communication skills.

ï‚· Another weakness of me which I have learned from the feedback is that I am unable to
provide emotional support and respect to my patients. As a nurse, I have been always
taught to behave professionally in front of patients but after receiving this feedback, I
have gained the insight that patients feel really vulnerable when they are admitted to
hospital and they seek emotional support from us. It has been analysed by me that it is
important to me to support my patients emotionally and for this I can change my carer
pattern. After providing appropriate information to the patients, I can ask my patients
about how they are doing and can listen to their problems without any interruptions so
that they can feel a sense of support.
Above improvements are important for me to make in my professional behaviour which will help
me to improve myself.
How is this relevant to the code?
NMC is Nursing and Midwifery Council which has provided few professional standards and
codes which are required to be followed by every professional of medicine. There are four broad
codes which are prioritise people, practise effectively, preserve safety and promote
professionalism and trust (NMC codes, 2020). Among these four codes, the two themes which
are selected by me are prioritising people and preserve safety. The feedback which is received is
highly relevant to the code. As according to the nursing code it is important to priorities people
and the feedback has given me the insight that I am unable to support people effectively. There
are two important insights which are gained from the feedback. Both of these insights are
relevant to the code and the evidence to support this statement is given below:
ï‚· The first insight which I have gained from the feedback that needs improvement is my
inability to effectively communicate with the patients due to which various relevant
information is hard for patients to understand. This feedback is relevant to the code of
preserve safety. This code states that the very first responsibility of a nurse is to preserve
safety and make aware the patient about their medications and health. This code can be
followed by me if I am unable to communicate the medication and other relevant
information to the patients.
ï‚· Another improvement requirement which I have analysed from the feedback is that I am
unable to emotionally support my patients. This feedback insight is relevant to the
nursing code of prioritising people. If I am unable to emotionally support the patient,

then it implies that my top priority is not the patients. This feedback has provided me an
insight that in order to follow the codes, I must develop my personality which can
emotionally support people.
SMART ACTION PLAN
Action plan is a set of activities which are planned to be implemented for the achievement of
goals (Cunningham and Moore, 2019). An action plan is developed below for ensuring the
fulfilment of goals which are gained after analysing the received feedback.
