Week 8 Discussion topic: Adding New Resources to Your Project
In order to deliver the project ahead of schedule, you have been granted permission to add more resources to your
team. Your Project Sponsor has worked out a deal to add an outside firm (partner) to your project team. They have very
little understanding of your project and you don’t have a lot of time to educate them on the project’s specifics. Describe
how you plan to incorporate them as members of your project, as well as how to get them up to speed on your project.
Please enter initial response/result here with 250-300 words:
The situation requires the effective usage of important resources. It is important that the outside firm is made to
understand about the project through a 2-3 hour session that can be held. It is important that the most important parts
of the project are explained to the outside firm. Moreover, the team needs to coordinate with this team as and when
required by the members of the outside firm. In order to improve the speed of the project, it is important that a SWOT
analysis of the new team is made. It is important to build the cooperative framework based on the strengths that are
identified while carefully avoiding the weaknesses and the threats. The opportunities should be identified while moving
forward. This would help the teams to blend properly and develop their performance abilities. It is much important that
the needs of the teams are met. Transformational leadership needs to be utilized to create a better performance
enhancement platform.

Week 8 Discussion: Adding New Resources to Your Project
Brining in new resources and employees on board for projects that they have little to no information is another
challenging issue that is facing the project beside meeting the dead line earlier and most companies are struggling to
maintain a high level of efficiency, especially in the period of deadline pressure. As a project lead it’s my responsibility
first to require resources that have some project background and information but, in a case, if new resources have no
information, I will be first focus on time saving and at the same time I will introduce new team members with quick
project work sessions and project background brainstorming, I will be developing project overview presentations. I will
be using important project tools to increase new employee’s visibility and make sure what we are targeting the right
objective and goal, tools like Gannt chart for project scheduling will make new employee have better understanding for
certain tasks. WBS is another vital tool that is designed to guide team members to complete tasks to meet project
objectives. Project timeline which I introduced in assignment 1 is another great tool that gives new resources more
knowledge and visibility to overall project goals. Finally, I will assign new employees and resources to shadow
experienced employees to learn as fast as possible.

The given solution is effective in terms of the value that is added to the development of the team with respect to the
give situation. The resources that are required need to be managed effectively. In that case the background information
can greatly help to make the newer members understand about the project particulars. It is also important that the
organizational requirements are very effectively conveyed to the new team members. The Gantt chart can be an
efficient method for project scheduling. However, it is important to remember that the time taken for the creation of
the Gantt chart cannot be very long. This can delay the project further. Effective communication is an important aspect
that has not been mentioned in the post.

Describe how you plan to incorporate them as members of your project, as well as how
to get them up to speed on your project.
During the process of delivering the project ahead of schedule, as the Project Manager, I
would create a support group that will include our most knowledgeable employees to
assist in supporting the outside firm that will be included to complete this project. This
will be our level of support, which will also include myself, to answer questions and
quickly train our newcomers that will be assisting. Stages of Team Development will be
implemented and will include the Five Stage Team Developmental Model. Stages include
Forming Stage, getting acquainted with the team, Storming Stage, work through difficult
obstacles that may arise, Norming Stage, everything usually smooths out and individuals
realize them understand their roles, Performing Stage, the maturing stage, and The
Adjourning Stage, most of the goals have been accomplished. Our main goal will be to
successfully complete the project and in the interim, maintaining the confidentiality of
the organization with no information being shared outside of the team. Team building
skills will be important to help everyone fill included and essential to the execution of the
plan. Rewards and incentives will be provided for completed work within desired time
frame and as well as public recognition.

The solution that has been provided through the post is effective in terms of the people management aspects that have
been given prominence. There is ample scope for the development of an effective integration process for the members
of the new team. However, it is much important that the five stages of development model are kept concise and
implemented as fast as possible. It is important to understand that the organizational needs need to be effectively
communicated to all the new members as quickly and effectively as possible. If the stages are kept short, it can
contribute to the more effective development of the team.
