INTRODUCTION
This is to discourse upon my core values at the workplace where I believe to possess a
strong work ethic. I also try to remain adaptable towards the changing demands towards a
particular cause. Another is in relation to my honesty and integrity towards the work that cannot
be comprised my me in any situation. Apart from these, I together believe to stay self-motivated
to continually grow and learn with a strong sense of self confidence. However, once occurred a
situation in which I had to compromise with one of my core values, which has been discussed in
the below report.
1. Why do you consider this event to represent a time when you were unable live up to their
values? Which value(s) was(were) compromised?
This is in regard to specify the event in which I have not respected one of my core values
of carrying a positive attitude at work. It is an event which exemplified a a conflicting situation
at my workplace in which, I could not live up to my values and ended up being angry. This in
turn reflected my negative attitude towards work, opposing to what I assured myself by staying
optimistic.
2. What pressures or opportunities pulled you off course?
It basically represented a workplace conflict among me and one of my co-workers who
was recently hired in the department in which I was posted since the last 3 years. We both were
largely dependent on each other for certain number of tasks and hence, I was trying to
collaborate with him regarding work. However, I used to be steady towards my work submission
in opposition to my co-worker who used to drag it till last minute. Despite of being very
proficient, an enormous sense of opposition rested inside me for a long time, until one fine day, I
smeared him very badly in front of others.
3. How did you understand your actions at the time? Did you employ any mechanisms of moral
disengagement to facilitate your actions?
I did not understand my actions at that particular time but later found it to be a mechanism
of moral disengagement which facilitated my actions which was baseless to a great extent. This
mechanism of moral disengagement is basically referred to be a social psychology of convincing
one own-self that certain ethical standards are inapplicable in some situations (Bandura, 2016). I
thereby detached my moral responses from inhumane behavior by together restricting the
mechanism of self-criticism.

4. In retrospect, what would you have done differently? And how could you bolster yourself
against the inevitable pull to do something similar again?
I could have not reacted in front of everyone and yelled at him unnecessary without
thinking both ways. As I have misinterpreted my co-worker and have taken his actions
personally, thinking that he is intentionally delaying the work and deliberately let me down in
front of our boss despite of knowing the fact that we were working on an inevitable deadline.
However, next time, if a similar situation arises again, I will boost up myself to stay clam and
avoid being skeptical.
CONCLUSION
The above report has discoursed a situation in which I have used the mechanism of moral
disengagement by undertaking the method of moral justification. This reflected a mechanism of
moral disengagement where I have also disrespected one of my core values in terms of carrying
out an affirmative attitude. I have thereby charged one of my co-workers for being inactive in a
task in which I was also involved with him with a concern of submitting it on time.
