Individual Exercise 2: Using Microsoft Project – Appendix A of the Textbook
Objective:
 Develop hands-on experience using MS Project to create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
Assignment Guidelines:
 Using the textbook, Appendix A, with the following sections, as a guide,
o Creating a New File and Entering Tasks in a Work Breakdown Structure
o Developing the Schedule
o Project Cost and Resource Management
 Select from one of the following projects, and identify the summary and subtasks for the project:
o Replacing 15 desktops in the school’s Computer Lab
o Setting up a wireless network in a Coffee Shop
o Developing a stand-alone business software
 Create a Work Breakdown Structure in Microsoft Project with:
o Summary Tasks (Level 2 items), organized by one of the following:
 SDLC
 Project Management Process Groups
 Project Products (Deliverables)
o Subtasks (Level 3 items)
o Numbered Tasks
 Develop a Schedule
o Enter Task Durations with Start and Finish Dates
o Dependencies (Predecessors and Successors), if any
o A new Calendar with four human resources
o Assign a Resource to the summary tasks or subtasks
 Project Cost and Resource Management for each human resource
 Enter cost estimates for staff, and any hardware and software in the WBS
 Submit the MS Project Plan in Blackboard, with the following columns:
o Duration, Start and Finish Dates, Predecessors, and Successors
o Include the Resource Names and Cost columns
o You are not required to print/hand-in the Gantt Chart for this assignment
