Individual Reflection 2
I played two main roles during the accomplishment of the project. First, I was the overall group
leader. Second, I took part in a presentation of the project to the entire class. I also the group leader
I would coordinate the communication between members and the class tutor. Likewise, I was to
ensure a smooth coordination and communication within the group while ensuring that members
had accomplished their assigned roles and responsibilities (Fook, 2015, p. 67).
I faced several challenges as a leader. First the group comprised of members from different courses.
Second, it was heard to physically bring members together. The problem of coordinating a group
comprising members from different courses is that it is difficult to find a free time that uniformly
favours all members. Likewise, there was a conflict of interest among members where some wanted
to undertake easier roles to the expenses of others. Others wanted the group to hold meetings during
their free time without considering other members. As a leader, I sought a direct conduct with each
member, listened to their views and concerned. In the end, we all agreed that we should conduct an
online meeting via the WhatsApp social media application (Furlong & Oancea, 2013, p. 75).
I also had the responsibility to collect and compile tasks allocated to each member and submit the
final copy to the tutor. Likewise, I had to present the tutor's concerns and views to the group
members and lead them into making the necessary corrections.
I have learned several issues from the challenges I faced as a project leader. First, I had the
responsibility, as a leader, to address all the concerns from members by providing an amicable
solution. Second, members looked upon me to provide direction whenever disagreements raised.
There were instances, where some members would look down upon views of others. Therefore, I
had to come in and state that the views and contributions of each member mattered for a successful
completion of the project. Third, although we agreed that we would conduct our meeting via the
WhatsApp, I convinced members that we should meet over the weekend to physically present our
views as well as practice our presentation skills. Fourth, I found that the advice from our tutor was
helpful in improving the quality of the project (Olson & Singer, 2004, p. 75).

Lastly, communication and listening skills were important in the successful completion of the
project. Communication and listening proved to be a major challenge because members came from
different courses. Members had not met before the project hence it took a lot of time to familiarise
with each other The use of WhatsApp did not allow members to conduct detailed discussions. In
future, I would recommend meeting because it would help to create a friendly environment for
members to operate. I have also perfected my presentation skills from the practices we conducted as
a group (McIntosh, 2010, p. 99). Member would correct my mistakes as well as suggesting the areas
that needed improvements. The entire process of the project has helped me to become a better
leader, communicator, listener and presenter.
