AI Summary
This essay explores the intricate relationship between business, society, and the environment, focusing on the challenges posed by the haze crisis in Indonesia. It highlights how annual forest fires, particularly on peatlands, contribute to severe air pollution that affects not only Indonesia but also neighboring countries like Singapore and Malaysia. The essay discusses the detrimental effects of the haze, including increased ocean temperatures, delayed monsoons, water supply issues, and health problems caused by toxic air pollutants. It also examines government initiatives aimed at mitigating the crisis through forest management, fire prevention, and peatland restoration. Furthermore, the essay suggests adopting fire management strategies from other countries like Thailand and South Africa and emphasizes the importance of land tenure security and waste management for long-term environmental sustainability. BUSINESS, SOCIETY AND THE ENVIRONMENT
The global aspect of business, society and environment condition
A particular business depends on several factors like economic and political condition
of that place. For the long term business process, change in people behaviour, product choice
and sustainable approach in business is important and relevant. People, Planet, Profit are the
three pillars of sustainability and change in climate or good market orientation allows to
reach the business at its highest level. As stated by Boons and Lüdeke-Freund, (2013), a
vibrant economy always supports a good labour market and provides some scope for people
to have that product. The toxic material in the soil, groundwater level, use of smart
technologies like sensor, information management technologies, communication facilities,
filtration all these aspects highlight the possible chances of business acceleration or the
staged journey of the business. The choice of products are he concern issue in such situation
as the alternative in products are available in the market, thus innovativeness in business
helps the entire process of development. Some of the environmental hazardous condition
happens due to the industrial development but the implementation of power and politics in
these situations can be handled even mitigated (Loorbach & Wijsman, 2013). The core
sustainability in business consists of global climate change, resource management and the
impact on the local environmental health as well. The environment stewardship regulation
along with biodiversity, waste minimization, spill prevention, emission reduction and
compliance management are formed to support the business for the sustainability.
Challenges in Indonesia due to haze and its effects in Singapore and Malaysia
Some of the Asian challenges in environment aspect make adverse business condition
and companies are not willing to continue their business over here. The problem in Indonesia
due to haze is one of those situations that create problems for the nation and for other nations
as well (Forsyth, 2014). The forest fire in every annual dry season and massive lit up to clear

the land on agriculture creates air pollution and effects in the environment. The
neighbourhood countries like Malaysia and Singapore are also affected by this haze. Fires on
peatlands are also a concern for the country and 90% of haze is created through this (Forsyth,
2014). The major challenges that are found for this reason are the increase in ocean
temperature in the Southern Ocean. The process of delayed monsoon is another challenge that
a nation can face. The supplies of water, harvest of rice and other crops are staged due to the
late rain arrival. Serious fire problems are there and the average temperature of the nation
increase. Countries related with Indonesia for their business face lots of trouble as the
sustainability in environment is there and people have a reluctant approach towards products
(Heilmann, 2015). Land, water, air, sea level all these are affected and drought situation
arises in Indonesia. Social and human suffering also happens due to that reason. The toxic air
includes carbon dioxide, cyanide, ammonium and those things are not good for the business
acceleration (Heilmann, 2015). There are some hardest-hit regions, like Central Kalimantan,
where the situation due to haze is worse and physical problems also happen due to this
reason.
Handle those challenges in a better way
To handle the situation and make some effective situation to migration of those
challenges, government initiation against the process is important and effective. Indonesia
needs to find new way of managing forests and prevent the fire. The innovative systems will
help the environment and make it sustainable for the business within the nation and other
countries. Some strong steps form the government is needed in case of policies and
regulations in the management so that international business helps the revenue generation of
the nation. The polluted air creates an imbalance in the atmosphere and long-term business
deals are nullified through the process (Quah & Varkkey, 2013). There are some effective
programs the government has initiated for the sustainable condition. Ambitious programme to

approach, halt drainage and development of peatlands all these processes are important for
the development of infrastructure. The land access and management process are important for
the environmental sustainability (Quah & Varkkey, 2013). Approaches of fire management
strategies taken by Thailand and South Africa can help Indonesia to prevent the fire in an
efficient way. The restoration process of degraded landscapes and successful rehabilitation
will help to mitigate the air pollution through this process (Quah & Varkkey, 2013). Land
tenure security and land lining for better segregation of waste and important materials are
there and these can be processed as the effective solution of this problem.
