Indulgent or permissive parenting
Indulgent parenting is also called as the permissive parenting in which parents are very involved
with their children and place low demand or control and high responsiveness. As per indulgent
and permissive parenting style, parents tend to be or behave with their children more like a friend
than a parent. They are more careful and protective towards their children and are very loving
towards them but place few demand and control over them. Indulgent or permissive parents
mould or make themselves as their children like or fit them and hence enforce less discipline on
their children (Sovet and Metz, 2014). These parents do not teach and educate their children that
how to behave and act properly presently as well as in future.
Positive impact of indulgent or permissive parenting on child’s later development
Indulgent or Permissive parents are more supportive emotionally as well as socially and very
involved with their children. These parents always try to maximize happiness of their children by
putting few control of demand on them. As per study, it has identified that children grown up
with indulgent or permissive parenting are more resourceful, have good social skills and high
self esteem. Permissive parents are very loving and careful towards their children and hence it
creates less possibility of conflicts or arguments among them (Raboteg and Sakic, 2014). There
are two-way street communication between the parents and their children that enable children to
speak all in their minds without any nervousness and hesitations. Indulgent or permissive parents
always encourage their children to be more creative that leads to development of more sense of
imagination and more creative hobbies.
Negative impact of indulgent or permissive parenting on child’s later development

educate discipline and etiquette to their children on how to behave properly in life now or later.
They develop their children or expects form them as just behave or act like kids and immature
and also they hardly punish their children (Miller, 2016). Indulgent or permissive parents give
more priority to give freedom to their children rather than developing responsibilities requiring

for self control. This parenting style develops risky behaviour in their older children and later
this develops drinking habits and alcohol use among young adults and late adolescents. Parents
do not develop responsibilities among children for self control that leads to no real sense and
thinking habits among children. This type of parenting style creates difficulties for children in
school, at work and in social life because this parenting style does not develop and enable
children to understand the concept of respect (Rodrigo et.al, 2014). Also, children are raised with
the indulgent or permissive parenting lack of self motivation among them because these children
do not get proper guidance and structure to develop motivational part in their brain and hence
adversely impact their future development.

The research process was very effective that help me a lot to generate the accurate and reliable
findings about the research topic. the qualitative research technique has used in which various
sources such as books and journals have used to identify and understand that how does indulgent
or permissive parenting during early childhood impact the child’s later development. An
appropriate research process has followed in which books and journals, and secondary sources of
information or data have used that have majorly helped in generating reliable and accurate
findings as are required to accomplish the research objective efficiently and effectively
(Jamshed, 2014). The qualitative research process has provided non-numerical data and
information about the research topic. An unstructured interview and observation techniques have
used to indentify, collect and analyse data for generating the accurate and reliable findings.
While conducting qualitative research or finding quality references, the most effective think I
experienced was that this research technique consumes less time as well as efforts in indentifying
and gathering data or information about the research topic. Data or information collected from
qualitative references has identified that indulgent or permissive parenting during early
childhood impact positively as well as negatively the child’s later development. Secondary
sources such as books and journals have effectively provided data or information as was required
to accomplish the research objective (Mayer, 2015).
While conducting research in this topic, I learn that how to use qualitative research technique or
method to generate accurate and reliable findings. I have learned strategy that how to effectively
use secondary sources of data or information such as books and journals to generate reliable and
accurate findings by putting minimum efforts and consuming minimum time. I have learned that
how to effectively use or conduct unstructured interview and observation for identifying and
analysing the data or information to generate quality findings and achieve the research objective.
Therefore, improve in knowledge of qualitative research techniques, methods and tools will
greatly help me in conducting and accomplishing the future research successfully.
