Introduction
As it stands, the world has become increasingly dynamic. In order to keep up with the ever-
changing technological space, one has to get equipped with knowledge, skills, and experiences
relevant to his/her particular profession. There is a need for people to keep up to date their skills
and knowledge so as to maintain their professional space. As much as academic qualifications
are important, it is also essential to accumulate relevant experience in a particular profession.
Academic qualification when wrapped together with experience and devotion to work builds
competence in an individual. It is often said that continuous practice brings perfection.
Competence, in its part, is the key element which employers look for in employees today. This
need is emphasized in the fact that people today get employed not for the knowledge they have,
but for what they do with the knowledge.
The specific attributes that employers look for in an employee are diverse depending on the job
requirements. In this assignment, only three specific aspects will be discussed alongside the
relevance of the industrial placement in competence building.

The importance of my stint at the JB Steel India LTD where I undertook my industrial placement
cannot be underestimated. While I was there, I got to learn most of the thing that employers
require from employees. I am a better professional now, thanks to them.
Communication is a vital component in day to day operations of any organizations. It is the
engine that drives the operations of any firm. Research shows that 70-80 percent of the time in
work places are spent on communication (Worth, 2004). For anyone to improve his
employability ratings, he has to cultivate good communication skills. Communication can either

be verbal or non-verbal. Both of them are equally important. Taking in instructions, making
presentations and conversing with colleagues at work became a routine during my time at JB
Steel India LTD. During that period, I got to improve my listening and speaking skills. In order
to internalize the instructions and procedure for carrying out tasks, I always ensured that the
message was clear. The meetings not only gave me a chance to practice my listening, speaking
and writing skills, but it also made me learn how to conduct myself in them.
Proper communication, on its own, is not enough to make an employer complete. For proper
delivery on job requirements, it is important for any employer to improve his/her organizational
and interpersonal skills (Dineen, & Kott, 1991). The engagement with JB Steel India LTD also
gave me a chance to improve on this aspect of my profession. During this time, I underwent a
social transformation. I can now relate well with colleagues in work places. It was at this place
where I got to understand the relevance of building teams and working together to achieve
common objectives. I can now organize myself well whenever required to accomplish certain
tasks within schedule.
The primary objective of any company is to realize a profit from the sale of services or goods to
clients. For this to be achieved in any organization quality services have to be offered and within
the required timelines. This, therefore, means that deadlines have to be met. To achieve this,
proper work ethics come into play. During my industrial placement, I got to practice on my
organizational skills. I had to also work round the clock to ensure that I provided solutions to
assignments in time. Daily assignments also gave me a chance to work on time management

Conclusion.
Generally, working in groups is gratifying if there is harmony among the team members. The
harmony is achieved within the team when all team membets work on their personal skills.
Having improved on communication, interpersonal skills, and time management, I am now well
equipped for employment.
