The book takes the reader on a tour around the world through India, china, Brazil, South Africa,
France, Argentina and the United States with an international lineup of babies. In each of these
countries children are introduced to the native language as well as different cultures and music.
The international lineup of babies are welcoming and full of dance moves and rhythm.

Fairytales reflecting different cultures
Name: Hanzel and Gretel

The fairy tale introduces the reader to two brave children captured by a cannibalistic witch living
in a house made of candy, confection, cake, gingerbread and many other pastries and treats. The
children must save themselves or be eaten by the scary witch. They finally manage to save their
lives by outwitting the witch. The tale is set in a way that it captures some of the rich African
textures and colors.

Description
The tale centers on Cinderella, a beautiful and hardworking girl who endures the cruelty of her
step sisters and step mother. She wishes to attend the prince’s ball but the sisters discourage her
by telling her that she will be laughed at by the people at the palace. However, through the help
of her fairy godmother she is able to attend the prince ball in the most thrilling night of her life.
Name: The Princess and the Peas
Author: Rachel Himes
The setting of the book is in Charleston County, South Carolina. It centers on an eligible
bachelor named John who is the center of attraction for three girls. The contest for the girls
involves cooking black eyed peas. John’s mother is considered the best cook in town. A
contestant named Princess joins the contest in the last minute and goes ahead to win John’s hand
in marriage. However, the princess had her own idea. After emerging the winner she requested
John to scrub the pans and pots before he could get an answer from her. It emerged that her
answer was wanting to spend more time with john to get to know him first.
Planning and Implementation a learning experience

The learning experience is based on the Princess and the Peas Fairytale which focuses on food,
cooking and love. The learning experience is intended to enhance the ability of toddlers to
develop their sense of smell and touch.
The implementation entails cooking three types of meals each with a different spices and letting
them to choose based on the smell of the spices. Additionally, allowing children to play with
uncooked and cooked foodstuffs such as corn, rice, and black eyed peas will be used.
The success of the learning experience will be determined by the ability of the toddlers to
correctly identify different meals based on the smell of their spices as well as their ability to
identify the texture of cooked and uncooked foodstuffs.
